Drumroll please. Strike up the band. Drop the confetti. Release the doves…
Can you tell we’re beyond excited to share Stacie’s amazing Young House Love inspired master bedroom transformation? A few weeks ago we whipped up a mood board, and Stacie spared no time putting our plan into action. But even we couldn’t predict the insanely dramatic makeover that ensued.
Here are a few of the “before” shots:
She wanted a lighter and brighter room with a clean and contemporary look (and a dash of hollywood regency) while keeping the current headboard, dresser, tv, pendant lights, and window shades. Here’s a look back at the mood board we created that sparked such a major makeover:
And here’s Stacie’s totally transformed “after” of a bedroom thanks to a bunch of items from our mood board as well as a few additions that were inspired by our suggestions:
Everything from our new wall color suggestion and accompanying color scheme to our idea to paint the frame around the existing headboard and create a seating area with a fun white arc lamp completed this major bedroom makeover on a dime. And Stacie didn’t even need to purchase every single piece from our mood board, she happily took our new light & bright bedroom concept and ran with it, which actually saved her even more money along the way. What does she think of the transformation? Well…
Can’t thank you enough for all the design advice and help. You have inspired me to overhaul my my dark, cave-like bedroom, and the outcome is amazing. The mood board was so awesome! Some of the ideas I took exactly from you, and some I interpreted in my own way. The main thing is the paint color. I’m not the best at paint colors, often painting 3 times until I get a color I like. But I threw caution to the wind and just put up exactly what you recommended and I LOVE IT!!!!!! So bright, airy and calming at the same time. Painting the radiator to the left of the fireplace a dark color to balance my dresser was genius. Love the arc lamp you found too, and painting the headboard was the best idea. I decided on a bolder rug, and different bedding but I added in the cool blue green color you suggested with pillows (on the cheap from Marshall’s) and a $13.00 (!) velvet throw for the reading chair. These pics don’t even do it justice but I wanted to get some afters to you asap. I am now a loyal fan and daily reader of your blog… keep up the good work!! – Stacie
We love Stacie’s new master bedroom (and the fact that she worked her butt off over the past few weeks to get us these afters) but we’re dying to hear what you guys think. Feel free to shower her with the praise that she deserves and steal a few ideas of your own.

Bedroom looks great – so light & airy. Where did the White chair come from?

Amazing transformation! Stacie, where did you find that rug?

Wow, I gasped when I saw it! Stacie, it looks so wonderful. LOVE LOVE LOVE the pendants on either side of the bed, and the light blue accents make it seem so light yet cozy. I can hardly wait until I have a room of my own to send in!
Stacie says
Wow! You are all so nice to comment. I LOVED doing this update and glad you all dig it. The chair is from Room & Board. They only have like 2 or 3 stores (and none near Richmond) so I had it shipped. The rug is from Pottery Barn. I think it was called the Moorish Tile Rug and that color is espresso, but it looks totally hot in orange too.
I love being in that room now, its a breath of fresh air.
Thanks again to John & Sherry and send in your moodboard requests! SO helpful if you are stuck in your own design dilemma.

Wowza — what a great job, and what a lovely room to rest in! The color pallet is among my favorites…I love those soothing beachy tones with some dark wood accents. Yummy!
Lauren says
What is the paint color called? Also love the cherry blossom panel art. Where did you find it? A gorgeous transformation…really inspiring. Lauren
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Lauren,
The paint color is Glidden’s “Sand White”- one of our personal favorites. As for the panel art, Stacie found it on her own so she’ll have to chime in and spill the beans!
xo,
Sherry
Stacie says
The panels are, believe it or not, from Crate and Barrel and they were my big splurge of the room, at about $500.00 for all 4 panels. But i couldn’t resist when i a saw them and i know ill have them forever. Classic.
What i didn’t mention is that in the winter, i plan to remove the blue green accent pillows and throw and bring in orange accents to match the panels. I love a room that can change with the seasons easily.
jen says
So, the rug is beautiful, but it looks lighter than the rug on the PB website– the espresso color there looks very dark brown whereas your rug shot makes it look like a nice warm tan? If you could confirm whether that rug is dark brown or tan- If it is lighter I think I will scoop one up!
Monica C. says
WOW. I was in shock when i saw this transformation but the room looks GORGEOUS!!! I love the color and how airy it looks. Congratulations on an amazing job!!!!
Lauren says
The rug does look more tan than what Pottery Barn shows on their site… if it’s truly lighter, then I might pick one up, too.
Stacie says
The rug is def. a lighter brown/med. tan.
Much lighter than the chocolate brown the PB
website suggests. Happy shopping!

I was wondering where you found your sunburst mirror? I love it! I’ve been looking for something similar for my dining room. Beautiful room and amazing transformation!
YoungHouseLove says
Eeks, someone posted here and somehow it got deleted but the question was about whether the headboard was Sand White or the walls. The answer: the walls! Although the name is deceiving, the perfect tan tone on the walls is Sand White (by Glidden) and the headboard was just painted with some glossy white trim paint. Hope that helps! Sorry about the comment disappearing act!

Sherry
Christine says
Is there any way you can ask Stacie where she bought the artwork above her bed?
Thanks
Christine
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Christine,
Stacie snagged that art from Crate & Barrel. She admits it was her “splurge.” You can see it here on their website:

Hope that helps!

Cindy says
Sherry,
I thought it might be. It’s not there anymore but I’ll keep my eyes open. I’ve been looking for something similar for my own room.
Thanks.

The duvet is actually a Dwell Studio design, and it’s still available (in persimmon or saffron) through dwellshop.com:

Would you happen to know where the garden stool/side table by the chair came from? This bedroom is amazing, Stacie.
John and Sherry, I adore your website. It has been really inspiring as I am attempting to navigate decorating my first house. Thank you!

Hey Erin,
Good question! We don’t remember the answer off the top of our heads but we’ll drop Stacie an email and hopefully she can pop in and comment with the details.

Hey guys. I LOVE this mood board and am wondering if you can re-post where all the items can be purchased. I am also trying to do my bedroom in a Hollywood regency type style. So far, I have sandy beige walls; white, layered bedding; black and white vintagey floral print chair from Ikea; and black furniture from Ikea. It is looking great, but it needs a little color. Can you guys suggest a good accent color that would fit with the look I’m going for?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Casey,
The linked phrase at the top of the post that says “a few weeks ago” will take you to the original mood board with all the info you’re looking for! As for an accent color you could go with a silvery blue for a gorgeous and glam effect. Hope it helps!
xo,
s
Casey says
Thanks, Sherry. I think I will do the silver/blue color. Do you know where Stacie got her blue throw (on chair)?
YoungHouseLove says
Maybe West Elm? You can probably find something similar at TJ Maxx, Target, or even on ebay. Hope it helps!

Love the living and bedroom. Would you happen to know where the mirrored, sun wall decor in the living room is from?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Angie,
We believe it’s from Crate & Barrel although they might not sell it anymore. Maybe try ebay? You can search for a “sunburst wall mirror.” Hope it helps!

Where or where are the lights on the nightstands from (or are they hanging above? scones maybe?) So beautiful!
-alice
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Alice,
Yup, they’re hanging pendant lights that are plugged in and just swagged up the wall and then hooked from the ceiling so they dangle above each night stand. As for the actual source, I’m not sure where they’re from (although if you scroll up Stacie might have provided that info above). If not, maybe she’ll stop in with that info soon.

I am a new viewer to your site and you guys have such a great vibe and very user friendly site. I am a television editor professionally but an interior designer in my heart. I am trying so hard to find a cool but not too sixties arc lamp like the one Stacie got. I haven’t seen where you got it. Can you tell me?

Elizabeth Evans says
Hi there, where did you find the duvet cover? Love it.
Thank you, Liz
YoungHouseLove says
Elizabeth – The duvet cover is from West Elm a few years ago. It’s discontinued now, but you might be able to find one on eBay.
Mary – All of our extra pillows sit piled in the leather chair on the other side of the room when not on the bed. Since we don’t sit in the chair all that much, they’ve never really been in the way over there.

I LOVE the paint color. Can you tell me what you used?
