When Yansy sent us her amazing forest-inspired bedroom makeover we couldn’t wait to share the play by play. Here’s her letter:
I wanted to share with you my finished master bedroom since you were the inspiration behind the Forest Wall. I would love to know what you both think of it. Of course I borrowed the idea from your old dining room chalk project. But instead of doing chalk and sealer I just used white chalk to trace the pattern on the wall and painted over it instead. I didn’t copy the pattern from anywhere (it’s something I came up with and that’s probably why it took me 5 hrs from start to finish). I would suggest that people use chalk first as opposed to going right to paint, that way they can make sure that they are happy with the end result (great idea guys!). After months of trying to come up with things to do in this room (and since the wallpapers I like cost a small fortune) I decided to create my own. I must say I’m very pleased with the way it turned out! Thanks for the inspiration! -Yansy
Here’s the room before the big makeover:
And here’s the same space after Yancy’s awesome DIY Forest Wall:
Isn’t that an amazingly lovely bedroom to retire to after a long day? Thanks so much for sending the gorgeous before and after photos our way Yansy! What do you guys think? Do you love how she created her own wallpaper of sorts for a fraction of the cost? Oh and don’t forget to drop in on her blog to learn more about her project from start to finish!

This is just downright kick-ass. I’ve been wanting to put my pencil to the wall, so to speak, but haven’t decided on a location to try out a free-hand mural. This inspires me to get crackin’!
And what a great, low-cost way to add visual intrest!
Amy says
Looks great!
I’m curious as to what color the walls are painted…I’ve been on the hunt for a blue and brown for our bedroom for months…and after a wallful of testers, no winner yet!

Hey Amy,
Good question! Feel free to pop on over to Yansy’s blog (see the link at the bottom of the post?) where she just might have that info for ya- and can certainly answer any and all questions. We’re sure she’ll stop in over here as well, but her awesome blog is definitely worth a visit (or 500!).

I saw the before picture and expected one wall changed, but then I scrolled down and my jaw dropped! Total transformation! FANTASTIC job with design elements- I’m not sure I’d be bold enough to do it myself, but I almost wish I was ;)

It doesn’t even look like the same room! And am loving the splashes of orange.

great color’s! There is just something about trees. I did one in our nursery free hand too. Love the chair too!
Amy @ Renovation Innovation says
Great makeover! I love the contrast of the dark brown with that gorgeous blue color and the pops of orange. I’m not usually a fan of dark brown, but I htink the space looks fabulous – especially that chair! I wonder if they reecovered the chair themselves or bought it from somewhere?
Cecelia says
Don’t the lamps echo the wall graphic to perfection!
Jennifer S. says
Very nice. I like the orange throw on the bed with the blue and brown.

Thank you everyone for your sweet comments and to John and Sherry for the delightful surprise. I just moved this past weekend into a new place and seeing my old bedroom on here makes me miss it so much more. I’m currently at work and replying from my blackberry while I supervise the painters as they paint my new office and I’m also picking out furniture options for a house I’m staging tomorrow. I promise to answer of all of your questions later when I can gather my thoughts better. I’m so overwhelmed by all of your comments. Thanks again for the wonderful support John and Sherry and if you find yourself in Miami please make sure to call me, I would love to show you my city!
P.S.The lamps I found at Home Goods, which happens to be my favorite place for inexpensive accessories. The chair was a gift from my mom which I painted and reupholstered myself, it took me 8hrs but I was able to save $400.

Oh my gosh! I am in love with this room, from the color scheme, to the wall design, to that gorgeous chair! Well done!
Today I blogged about something called Chalk Ink that I discovered over the weekend. I wonder if it would work for this kind of project. It’s kind of like a paint pen.

Do you think Glidden’s Gentle Tide would work well with chocolate brown as well?

@ Amy, the chair looks like it’s upholstered with Patricia fabric from Ikea. (you can tell I spend way too much time there if i recognized it from a picture :) http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00124581
The reno looks awesome! I would love to do something like this on a blank wall we have in our living room, but I have no artistic skill. Youngsters, are there any tree decals that y’all know of?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Bridget,
Good question! We don’t know of any off the top of our heads but we love sites like http://secure.wonderfulgraffiti.com/
Also maybe you can google or search for them on ebay? Hope it helps!
