Painting A Wall Mural Of Trees With Chalk & Paint

When Yansy sent us her amazing forest-inspired bedroom makeover we couldn’t wait to share the play by play. Here’s her letter:

I wanted to share with you my finished master bedroom since you were the inspiration behind the Forest Wall. I would love to know what you both think of it. Of course I borrowed the idea from your old dining room chalk project. But instead of doing chalk and sealer I just used white chalk to trace the pattern on the wall and painted over it instead. I didn’t copy the pattern from anywhere (it’s something I came up with and that’s probably why it took me 5 hrs from start to finish). I would suggest that people use chalk first as opposed to going right to paint, that way they can make sure that they are happy with the end result (great idea guys!). After months of trying to come up with things to do in this room (and since the wallpapers I like cost a small fortune) I decided to create my own. I must say I’m very pleased with the way it turned out! Thanks for the inspiration! -Yansy

Isn’t that an amazingly lovely bedroom to retire to after a long day? Thanks so much for sending the gorgeous before and after photos our way Yansy! What do you guys think?     This is just downright kick-ass. I’ve been wanting to put my pencil to the wall, so to speak, but haven’t decided on a location to try out a free-hand mural. This inspires me to get crackin’!

    And what a great, low-cost way to add visual intrest!

    Looks great!

    I’m curious as to what color the walls are painted…I’ve been on the hunt for a blue and brown for our bedroom for months…and after a wallful of testers, no winner yet!

    I’m not crazy about the design myself but it definitely adds pizazz to the room and I can appreciate the hard work that went into it. What I love though, is the chair! Gorgeous!

    I saw the before picture and expected one wall changed, but then I scrolled down and my jaw dropped! Total transformation! FANTASTIC job with design elements- I’m not sure I’d be bold enough to do it myself, but I almost wish I was ;)

    Love the redesign! I also have weird corner windows and for the longest time didn’t know how to position the room around them. Thanks for a fresh perspective and I love the graphic wall mural!

    Great makeover! I love the contrast of the dark brown with that gorgeous blue color and the pops of orange. I’m not usually a fan of dark brown, but I htink the space looks fabulous – especially that chair! I wonder if they reecovered the chair themselves or bought it from somewhere?

    Thank you everyone for your sweet comments and to John and Sherry for the delightful surprise. I just moved this past weekend into a new place and seeing my old bedroom on here makes me miss it so much more. I’m currently at work and replying from my blackberry while I supervise the painters as they paint my new office and I’m also picking out furniture options for a house I’m staging tomorrow. I promise to answer of all of your questions later when I can gather my thoughts better. I’m so overwhelmed by all of your comments.     P.S.The lamps I found at Home Goods, which happens to be my favorite place for inexpensive accessories. The chair was a gift from my mom which I painted and reupholstered myself, it took me 8hrs but I was able to save $400.

    Hello bedroom savers! I have a dark brown wall in my MBR and have had decorators block for over a year now! It’s such an inspiration to see a room like this! Thanks Yansy for the beautiful pictures, and Home Goods is a bargain hunters paradise…I LOVE that place!
