When our bloggy friend Roeshel sent over her bathroom makeover it was love at first sight. Here’s her letter:
I’d love to submit my bathroom makeover for a reader redesign. Thank you so much for the inspiration! The entire project cost just $512 and I really love the outcome. The ceiling paint, primer and trim and door paint were free (we already had it from previous projects) and the wall paint is Benjamin Moore’s Light Pewter and Nimbus (color matched to Valspar’s Signature paint). The lighting was from Lighting Direct and the oval vanity mirror came from Lowe’s. I painted the floor myself with Valspar Porch and Floor Paint in “Journey” and some Benjamin Moore “Smoke Embers” paint I already had (using two of the same Elegant Bracket Stencils). Then I sealed it with Minwax water based polyurethane (which WILL yellow light-colored paint). Oh and I got the Extra long White Waffle shower curtain at Target and used Rustoleum spray primer and oil rubbed bronze spray paint and spray lacquer for the faucets. Of course you can check out all the details over on my blog (for example, the floor painting project can be found right here). ~Roeshel
Here’s what the bathroom looked like before Roeshel worked her DIY magic:
And here’s the amazing (and wallet-friendly) after:
Isn’t that breathtaking? Of course we love the horizontal stripes that she added to those walls (check out our subtle wall stripe tutorial right here) and that painted floor is nothing short of amazing. What do you guys think? Didn’t Roeshel do a stellar job in here? What’s your favorite part? We’re torn between that fantastic stenciled floor and the soft clean color combo of the white trim and pedestal sink layered on top of those tone on tone walls. Yummy.

This is one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. I love those floors!
Also, I noticed on her blog she had a “paint your laminate counter top” – what a killer idea for someone who has ugly counter tops and want to change them up without spending a fortune.
Amanda V says
Wow! That’s painted?? Looks like a rug!
Barbara the CT Granny says
The floor is fabulous and makes the whole room. Everything else shows the floor off without being blah. I love it.
Tiffany T. says
duh..I don’t know how I missed that!

Stunning re-do! Love the colours.

I love this makeover. I am very curious about this floor paint. Anyone know if it can be used on Linoleum floors? We have UGLY tiles in our basement. We are currently doing a small makeover and we were going to leave the floor as is but I would love to just give it a cosmetic upgrade.
brooke says
i am speechless and oh so jealous!!! she did an AMAZING job! wow…
Erin says
Excellent job … what a great transformation for $500! Thank you so much for the details and particularly the paint colors. I get so frustrated when I love a makeover but can’t figure out what paint colors were used.
amelia says
love the stripes! love them in this light grey too – i think i will borrow these paint colours and do stripes in my powder room!
Amanda says
My favorite parts are: a) that sweet lil’ dog who wandered in and b) the FLOOR! A.Mazing!!
What a transformation!!!

That floor is gorgeous! Great job, Roeshel!
Chelsea says
Wow! Incredible! She did a great job! Love it.
Amber says
I think my favorite part is the walls and the shower curtain. Of course the floor and fixtures are amazing as well and totally pull it together, but I love how calm the room looks with the wall colors. AMAZING!
Dana @ House*Tweaking says
Stripes and stencils?! Yes-siree-bob, this is right up my alley!!!! I love this room. Switching over to Roeshel’s blog now to check out those floors. Gorge. Great work, Roeshel!
Lauren says
I can not explain how much I LOVE this redo! The stripes are perfect and just subtle enough! Ohh La LA!
I agree with Erin above…thank you for posting the paint colors!!!
Sandra says
I love how subtle the wall stripe is, and I can’t believe that “rug” is actually painted! I would have never guessed.
I think it’s very brave to use a painted floor in the bathroom, and spray-painted fixtures for the sink. Something not only touched all the time, but touched with wet & soapy fingers and feet? I’d be curious to know how it holds up!
D says
Oh, so nice!
Sarah Sarniak says
What a beautiful bathroom! I absolutely love the walls. Such a fantastic job.
Christin says
Incredible. Doesn’t even look like it could be the same room or space. I love the color choices and especially the rug. Well done Roeshel!! Thanks for sharing your inspiration. :)
Patty Earnest says
Wow! It is STUNNING!!
Making Mi Casa Lovely says
I love those stripes! I’ve been afraid to attempt stripes since my fiasco w/stripes and egg shell paint (didn’t go so well, but could have totally been my fault). Is semi-gloss better, I have egg shell throughout my house and tend to stick w/the same look.
Lilian says
Very cool! Was the floor a sanded hardwood or is the paint directly on the subfloor? I can’t tell!
Thanks,
Lilian

Laura@JourneyChic says
OMG, in the photo that floor looks like very expensive tile! I so wish I had the patience it must have taken to do that, but the results are definitely worth it.
Lilian says
Oh! Nevermind, sorry. Found it here: http://thediyshowoff.blogspot.com/search/label/Painting

This is awesome! Definitley shows what you can do on a budget! The floor is amazing! I thought it was a rug at first.
The Virginia House says
That floor is nothing short of amazing. I thought it was a rug until I re-read the post. I’m in awe!

What a great re-design! I love the light fixture and the sink combo. It has a very architectural feel.

Mmmm my heart beats for that painted floor!

Hard to say what is my favourite – definitely the tone on tone horizontal striped walls are up there, but there is so much more … :)

What an AWESOME job.
Erin @ SYL: Slipcover Your Life says
Hahah so yes, this was a fantastic redo but you asked my favorite part? That would have to be the super chunky dachshund in the last image! Obsessed!
Megan says
Love the floor, and the fact that it’s stenciled makes me think I could actually do something similar! I’m no artist, but I can measure and dab paint. Hooray!
MaryGene says
WOAH. How did they do that floor??? And I reaaaaaally love the walls!!

Roeshel says
Thanks so much everyone for your sweet comments! Paint is the best inexpensive way to make a fun transformation, isn’t it? Of course, having an ugly room to start with always helps the “after” look better. ;)
Thanks for sharing my projects John & Sherry! I’m honored!
~Roeshel, Russ
Ps. Niski (our doxie) is flattered to be chosen as a favorite part too. She sends Burger her love!
anna see says

What a super job! I’m doing the touch-up paint on my kids’ bathroom, and then I’ll be posting the after pics. My bath reno was inspired by your nursery color – Celery Sticks. Gorgeous!

That is pretty much awesome… and for so little money!

Beautiful. I can’t believe how the colours and the horizontal stripes make the room look so much bigger.
JoDi says

Paula M. says
Great job! I love the whole thing and how much lighter and brighter and stylish it looks.
If I had to choose just ONE thing as my favorite of the whole job, I’d say the floor, partly because it’s knock-out gorgeous and partly because I haven’t seen anyone else post that. I bow to their genius!!!
Fabulous job!!
