When one of our favorite paint prodigies sent over photos of her recent transformation we couldn’t wait to share them. Here’s her letter:
Hi guys! I just wanted to send you this recent project I did because I thought the colors and style screamed “Young House Love.” I came up with the pattern and design on my own- then I made a custom stencil to achieve the pattern. I was really happy with the end result (which looks like wallpaper, but with WAY less hassle!). Hope you like it! – Kristen
Here’s the room before Kristen worked her magic:
And here’s the room after Kristen’s amazing paint project:
Didn’t she do a fantastic job? We love everything from the subtle tone on tone treatment to the sophisticated and classic pattern (which Kristen designed herself). Oh and don’t forget to drop in on her amazing blog to check out a ton of other paint projects that she whips up on the regular. So inspiring! What do you guys think? Anyone itching to tackle something like this to achieve the look of wallpaper without the hassle? Do tell.

This looks great! We just spent a “bit” of money on Candice Olson wallpaper that I put in myself but this looks as good or better for a huge price difference!
Jill says
I love it! I love that greyish color. Do you know what color it is? Or perhaps Kristen will drop by and let us know…
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Jill,
We don’t know the color off the top of our heads, but hopefully Kristen will swing by and enlighten us all!

I’d love to know how Kristen made her stencil, if she is willing to share – or a template would be awesome!
This is exactly what I plan to do in our bedroom next month – only with white on white wide stripes since a stencils seems hard to work with. I have been dreaming about an all white bedroom for years!

Beautiful! So classy and subtle.

This is jaw dropingly amazing. But her blog doesn’t say how she achieved this. Since this place is all about DIY, how about a tutorial? Thanks!!!

Hey Melissa,
Here’s hoping she drops in with some more details for ya!

This is so impressive! Wallpaper can definitely be a HUGE hassle (both to put up, which I’m not sure I would ever attempt, and take down!), but it can be such a nice addition to a room.
Great job!

Just lovely, I love the subtly of the glossy and matte finishes. That one of those small touches I wouldn’t have thought of myself, but it looks so fantastic!

Looks incredible! I can’t believe it’s not wallpaper! Using low VOC paint is also better for your health and the environment than your average wallpaper. As always, thanks for the inspiration.

THIS is exactly what I’ve been needing for my guest room. Not sure if I can pull it off without a disaster but definitely going on the list. (neverending as it may be)

ecko says
i love your post ,and i’ll happy to come again on your site
thanks for your share
Kay says
That is gorgeous. I was looking at a similiar stencil on a website…So my question is: is the stencil design painted in the same color just a glossier paint?
Thanks for sharing!
kristen f davis | kfd designs says
heather – not sure where the bed linens came from, but i know the reddish pillows were from bed, bath and beyond. hope that helps a little!
Olga says
How exactly did you do this? is it a different color for the stencil, what was the stencil made of, how was it applied etc. ?
Looks great!
Jenna says
HAPPY FATHER’S DAY JIM!
Thank you for doing all of the handy man work that I don’t know how to do and building me tons of furniture so I don’t have to break my bank!
