After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Kate says
FABRIC ME!
My full name is Kathleen Clare, which means pure and bright and is a nice sounding irish name to go with my bright red hair. But I go by Kate, which is really what my mom liked but was pressured into giving me a ‘proper’ first name by relatives.
Beth says
FABRIC ME!!!
My full name is Jacqueline Elizabeth (I go by Beth, shortened from Elizabeth). I am not a fan of Jacqueline (not sure why), but everyone in my dad’s family has first names that begin with a “J” so I got Jacqueline and my sister is Jennifer. Neither of us go by our first names (she goes by Michelle, her middle name) which leads to confusion at graduations, weddings, etc. when our legal first names are used. I love Elizabeth, it’s a family name, and thank my parents everyday for calling me “Beth” instead of “Jacqueline” or “Jackie.”
Elizabeth says
FABRIC ME! I have no cool name story :(
Jamie says
Fabric me!
I’m named after my dad (James). Had I been a boy, I’d be a junior, but my dad has kind of an unusual middle name, so for one of many reasons, I’m glad I came out a girl :)
steph says
My last name is far more interesting… it was “changed” to sound more mainstream at Ellis Island…. I don’t think they did a very good job!
karay says
FABRIC ME!
I actually have no idea why they chose my name, as I continue to get totally crazy and misleading reasons when I ask….probably, they just “liked” it :)
Keaghan says
FABRIC ME!
My name means little fiery one :)
Jenna says
Fabric me! There is no special meaning behind my name.
Rebecca says
Fabric Me! My name is Rebecca. It’s a Hebrew name meaning \to bind’. Kind of a weird meaning, I don’t really know how to interpret it. I don’t think there was a specific reason for my parents choosing it other than my mom liked it. When I was younger I wished my name was something more trendy like Jessica or Nicole. But now that I am older, I don’t mind my name at all. Although it’s a common enough name, I have met very few people with the same name which I like.
Raazia Riffat says
FABRIC ME !
My name is Arabic, and means agreeable :)
Hannah says
Fabric me!
Hannah is similiar to how you pronounce the number “1” in Korean, I’m the first child so it seems logical!
Courtney says
FABRIC ME! I am named after my mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. We all have the middle name Jean.
Lisa Maria says
FABRIC ME!
My name has no special meaning, but my parents thought Lisa was too short and went for Lisa Maria. Eventhough it is a quite common name, I love it.
Adrian Odle says
Fabric me! Parents spelled my name like a boy because they thought it was easier to spell than the girls version with two more letters. Ended up winning the spelling bee twice. Ha!
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME! I’ll age myself and disclose that I was born a year or two after the movie “Love Story” came out, and the lead character’s name is Jennifer. Fast forward to first grade, seven Jennifers in my class alone. For that reason, it would have been nice to have a different name…
Amy says
Fabric me! My name means Beloved :)
Kelly says
FABRIC ME!
My parents just liked my name. My mom says she didn’t realize it was popular at the time, but there were six other Kellys in my high school class of about 200 kids.
Erin says
FABRIC ME!
Catherine says
Fabric Me! I was named after the girl “Kathy” in the Simon and Garfunkel song “America.”
Christina says
FABRIC ME!
My parents loved longer names ending in “a”. Thats about it! :)
Sue J. says
FABRIC ME!
It was one of the top 3 girls names that year.
Jackie E. says
“FABRIC ME!” I was named after my father (Jackie), but since I was a girl they made it more feminine (Jacqueline) and after Jacqueline Kennedy. This was in the early 60s.
Courtney says
FABRIC ME! My parents had settled on one name for a girl and one for a boy, but when I was born I apparently “looked like a Courtney” and that became my name even though my parents had never talked about it before that day. Ironically the one boy name they had picked out was still their only option when my brother came along and that is what they stuck with for him!
Ashley W says
Fabric me!
No special meaning… but in grade school, I got sick of being just another one of the many Ashley’s in school.
Nicole says
Fabric me!
Karen Q. says
FABRIC ME!
Nothing special behind my name, only thing that sounded good with my maiden name “Algie” I guess LOL Yikes!
Hollie says
FABRIC ME!!! My parents were going to name me Stacey, but O have two older sisters that thought different. While my parents were at the hospital they were staying with my grandparents. They called everyone and told them my name was Hollie, so my parents had no choice but to name Hollie :)
Megan says
FABRIC ME!
My sisters selected my name because they had a friend with the same name. I generally like it except when people think it is pronouced some wacky way or additional letters.
Olivia says
Fabric me! I was named after my fellow Australian Olivia Newton John! How embarrassing ….
Carlee W says
FABRIC ME! No meaning… my parents just liked it
Alisa says
“FABRIC ME!”
My mom said “uh” before suggesting “Lisa” to my dad. My dad thought she said “Alisa” and she liked that better :)
Amy Beth says
Fabric me!
Family name of Elizabeth made unique! Amy Beth – two words, one name :)
Sarah says
Fabric me! =]
My name was my dad’s mother’s. She passed away before I was born, so my dad wanted my name to be a tribute to her as I was his first girl.
I just bought some fabric on Saturday (and I’m in love with it!) I don’t generally let myself buy fabric unless I have a project in mind already. I’m going to make this with my new fabric as soon as my Coke crate comes in from Etsy. http://cottage4c.com/soda-crate-footstool/ I’m super excited about it!
Kayla says
Fabric me! I guess Kayla means pure. All the name meanings reference Kayla Brady — a character on Days of Our Lives. As an adult I feel like I have a little girl’s name, but I like it.
sarajane says
FABRIC ME! I don’t have any name stories, but I do love fabric!
Melissa G says
Fabric Me!
Elizabeth says
FABRIC ME! My name means ‘consecrated to God’ and I’m pretty sure my parents just really like the name!
Ann says
FABRIC ME!
Ileana says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my mom – we share the same first name. It can get a little confusing at times, but I wouldn’t change it!
Denise says
“Fabric Me” Dad heard a song with my name in it, And said to mom , how about Denise…she said who’s Denise? What do,you expect from 2 19 year olds back in 1961!

Forgot to add that I love the song “Sherry” by Frankie Valle and the Four Seasons…I had that song stuck in my head the other day, LOL! Made me think of you, Sherry :)
judi says
FABRIC ME!
i’m named after my late aunt, she passed not long before i was born so my parents decided to honor her and pass on her name – but changed the spelling so i’d still be unique. i love my name!
Elizabeth Beck Land says
FABRIC ME!
My mom’s favorite book is Little Women, so she wanted to name me “Beth” after her favorite character. It got lengthened to Elizabeth after her mom commented that Beth was too short. I still mostly go by Beth.
Caroline says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named in honor of my mother’s college roommate.
Alice says
Fabric me!!
Mitch says
FABRIC ME! I was named after my grandfather (first name) and uncle (middle name), which makes family gatherings somewhat confusing.
Anne says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named Anne after my aunt, but my parents called me Annie…until I was about 3 years old and told them I didn’t want to be Annie, I just wanted to be Anne. So, they caved. What was I thinking?! Annie is such a cute name!
kami says
Fabric Me! I was given this name because my chinese parents wanted me to have an American name-they named me after an American friend of theirs-little did they know that Kami is really not a typical American name.
Haley says
FABRIC ME! My parents could not decide on a name, so they each made a list of their top ten names. Haley was first on my mom’s list, last on my dad’s, and the ONLY one to be the same on both lists. My mom also wanted me to have a gender neutral name, so bonus points for that!
