Oh happy day! We have more design dilemma after pictures to share with you makeover-lovin’ guys and gals. A few months ago Corinne and her husband Keith came to us for help with their formerly cluttered den. They had been working with a designer but the budget got a bit tight so they came to us for help transforming their melting-pot of a room into a minimalist & modern TV room. Here’s their letter:
We absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE everything!!! We have shown it to our friends and family and they all love it too. You should expect some e-mail orders from them in the near future. Thanks a million. We already told you this but we LOVE the room!!!!! – Corinne & Keith
Here are the before photos to refresh your memory:
And here’s the mood board we whipped up to take the room from cluttered to crisp (check out the detailed breakdown here):
Here are the mod and minimal after photos of the very same space:
Didn’t Keith and Corinne do a fabulous job? We love the sculptural light fixture and the hits of orange paired with the textured green rug and curtains. The room feels clean and modern yet cheerful and fun, which we love! What do you guys think? Isn’t it funny how a room full of old furniture can become such a lovely little lounge with a few new furnishings and accessories? And kuddos to Keith and Corinne for sending us their after pictures! We eat makeovers like this for breakfast.
Update: We sadly can no longer find the time to take on client commissioned mood boards (we now whip up general inspiration boards instead) but if we ever reinstate them we’ll make a big announcement!

Very nice. I can’t wait to get into the house I’m closing on soon to start turning my befores into afters with all your great ideas. I will be sure to send pictures!

They did an amazing job. I love the mix of green with the orange accessories.

Love it! I didn’t see a link to the board details. Where is the bookshelf from? Thanks for all the inspiration!
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Lisa,
If you click on the words “detailed breakdown” above the mood board you’ll be taken to the original board where you can find the play by play. Hope it helps!

love the makeover….and love the sectional sofa. Sherry do you know where they bought it from?
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Mariela,
It’s from Room & Board. If you follow the link above the mood board it will take you to the link (the link is for the sofa, but they ended up snagging the sectional in the same style). Hope it helps!

You all do such a fabulous job, I so enjoy seeing the before and after pictures! Again, great work!! I’m in Fredericksburg, Va., so it’s even cooler to read about another young couple that’s so close!
Lindsey says
What happened to those incredible silver chairs in the before photo? I hope they found a home somewhere else in the house.
Babs says
I love this room. It reminds me of a hotel I stayed at in Maastricht, in the Netherlands. Same kind of clean, crisp and bright look. Great job!
Shannon says
Ohhh I hadn’t seen this mood board before…and I love it! Those throw pillows rock. It’s so cool to see all of the actual pieces in the real room. Does it make you giddy to see the all the things you picked out actually materialize in someone’s home?
YoungHouseLove says
There’s nothing better. We literally LIVE for after pics.

Looks really good, except I’d love to see more art or shelves on the wall and the couch could use a colorful throw. Love the pendant light!
SFDC says
Oh no, what happened to that amazing couch? Hopefully it was repurposed somewhere else in the house. The room looks great, though. I think they should add another set of the prints on the wall — four across that long wall would look great!

Sherry,
I was wondering if you use Polyvore to create your mood boards or is there another software that you prefer? Are you just photoshopping your choices instead by any chance? Thanks.
YoungHouseLove says
Hey everyone,
So glad you’re digging Corinne’s fabulous makeover. We think she did an amazing job and we’re glad you guys agree! As for where certain items that were in the room before went, we’re sure they’re being put to good use somewhere else (we just ask our clients what stays and what goes and work within their parameters). And as for Amy’s question about how we make our mood boards, there’s a ton of info on our FAQ page (and we do in fact whip them up in photoshop). Hope it helps!

Wow – did you guys ever recognize a “Diamond in the Rough.” That room looks awesome. Is the mood board you post exactly what you send the customer or do you send them additional info like “try and find a different spot for the cat’s litter box?” I think there are some things in my rooms that have been there so long I don’t notice them anymore.
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Kellye,
Good question! Our clients usually get a bit more info and a few extra details for executing the plan and then we boil everything down for the blog. You’re certainly right about not noticing things in your space after a while so we’re happy to be the extra eyes when people need ’em! Hope it helps…

I was wondering if they used the same rug that was posted on the mood board…the actual one used looks to have a bit more white in it than the CB2 one on the mood board.
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Krista,
It’s actually the same rug! Isn’t it fun?

Love the clean, crisp room, great job! The Eileen Gray side table looks great next to the Le Corbusier chaise!
Viv says
Thanks so much for posting the after shot. I love to see how the boards pan out in real life. This one strikes the perfect balance and looks like it would be easy to live in.
Corinne says
We really do love the room. Our before pics were taken during the final stages of renovating our house so the room was a real mess. We now have storage for all those games & toys. And for those who were wondering, the Emeco chairs are being used in another space in the house.
Thanks again Sherry & John!

looks awesome! i LOVED this moodboard when you first posted it and bookmarked it, it fits my style perfectly so seeing the whole moodboard translated into a real room is awesome -especially since many of these itens have been on my wishlist for a while! love the orange and green togather- we are actually using those colors in our living room along with chocolate brown and white.
great job!
corrinne- if you check this again, is the sofa comfy and does the pendant light look as good in real life as in the pics?
Kristy says
Love this. A++++
Keith says
Kristy,
The sofa is very comfortable and the pendant really looks great. Definitely way better than what we had before. I was initially surprised that the cage that surrounds the light was made of wood (not metal) and is very fragile. When installing it I knocked out a few of the pieces but they easily went back together.
The one thing that everyone who visits comments on is the rug because the texture is so different than anything they have ever seen. To be honest we were a little nervous ordering a bright green rug but we had faith in the overall plan and ordered almost everything the night we got the e-mail from Sherry.

Keith says
SFDC,
Unfortunately we have no other space in the house for the old Crate & Barrel sofa (but we requested a new one from John and Sherry because it was time for us to replace it). You can find it on the North NJ Craig’s list.
