It’s been over half a year since we shared our last video house tour, and since a bunch of you’ve been requesting an update, we finally cleaned the whole house shoved everything into our closets and made an all-one-take video. At first it seemed like we didn’t have that many new things to report, but then we realized that there were tons of changes since our previous tour (a freshly redone hall bathroom, a storage-room-turned-playroom, new lighting in the living room and dining room, lots of sunroom updates, a new fireplace facade and a fresh color in the kitchen, hallway board & batten, etc). So without further ado, let’s walk around the house together. I’ll chat while John mans the camera (you don’t want me holding the camera, trust me).
A few notes:
- We filmed this on our Nikon D3200 (we mainly use it as a digital camera, but occasionally make videos with it too).
- I’m not sick this time (I was for the last two video tours, so I’m breaking that stupid tradition). Huzzah!
- Why a towel falling to the ground as we made this video was so funny to me, I’ll never know. Watching it back, it’s not even remotely entertaining. Maybe I’m just a hyper/nervous tour giver? Yes, probably that.
- Are the in-yo-face brassy doorknobs in the laundry room making you itch? I ORBed every other knob in the house, but dude I haven’t gotten on those yet…
And now, I thought I’d end with our last video tour from September, just because it’s fun to watch the evolution. I always drag my feet when it comes to making these videos, but then when I look back on them I’m so grateful that we make them because they’re like little bi-annual time capsules.
Do you guys ever videotape your house, just to see how it changes over time? Would your hubby ever walk around with you and hold the camera while you jabber on right next to him? That’s totally our method. Yes, John and I stroll around the house together while he holds the camera and I talk. I think he deserves 65,790 man-points for coming up with that insane technique, but somehow it works. Because if he were narrating it would sound like this: “this is the dining room (long pause) and this is the office (long pause) – ok we’re done.” And if I was chatting and holding the camera, 7 out of 10 people would lose their lunch while watching. Hence the four-legged video house tour tradition. Yeehaw.
Oh and if you’re watching our most recent tour and wondering what we still have on our to-do list, here’s a somewhat updated rundown that has all that info for ya. I smell a guest bathroom update along with some porch and carport projects. Can I get a what what? No? A high five then? How about good old fashioned talk to the hand?
Psst- You can peruse all the other house tour videos that we’ve made since we moved in here, here, here, here, here, and here. And here’s an outside tour from last summer. Viva la video camera!

You should have a guess how many frames are in our house contest! :)
Your house is so pretty, it seems so big to me. I have one small hallway in my house, everything just feeds off of one big open living/dining/kitchen area so no gallery walls for me.
Thanks for sharing!

Haha, a frame guessing game = hilarious.

I love the stamp of approval picture.
Our 18 month old has the same baby, no “clothes” on, and she carries it everywhere… i mean EVERYWHERE .
it sits at the dinner table, it is with her at bath time watching over, sleepy time, brush teeth time, nap time, going on walks time….EVERYWHERE
Oh,almost forgot.. Nice video tour! :)

Love the Rifle Paper Co. calendar-turned-art in the board & batten hallway. My calendar hangs in my office at work and now I know what I’m going to do with it next year!!!

Where did you get the ikat-ish pillow on your bedroom chair? Is it black and white?
Also, how did you manage to get that tiny piece of molding for the board and batten in between the doorways of Clara’s big girl room and nursery??
YoungHouseLove says
Aw thanks Brynn! The pillow was from HomeGoods, and as for that tiny piece of molding we just cut it and shoved it in and nail gunned it :)

Out of curiosity – where do you eat most of your meals? Like you, we have barstools very close to our dining room table. There are just two of us so I thought we would mostly eat at the bar stools, but we literally never use them and choose the dining room table every single time.
YoungHouseLove says
We mostly eat at the dining room table since Clara’s chair is in there, but sometimes we’ll grab lunch or breakfast at the peninsula. And when it’s especially nice (or we’re watching a movie on a weekend) we might even eat on the sofa (or at that small table by the window in the living room). Haha!

This is such a great idea for everyone to do! I got an email from my insurance company suggesting that each household do a video tour or photos, so in the terrible chance that something happened (fire, flood), it would be much easier for the insurance company to replace the lost items!

I feel like I was just over for a nice visit. Thanks!
I noticed many common elements in your various rooms that seem to work very well in all of the spaces: Groups of frames. Big, interesting mirrors. A comfy chair in a corner with a handy table nearby. Dramatic overhead lighting. Intersting, graphic rugs. So many of your rooms have these things in common and it all makes sense.

Your home is so lovely!!! I always come back and look at your house tour for inspiration, I think the mix of fem/masculine is perfect. I come here every single day but I don’t remember the new frames in the board and batten hallway with the city prints in them? Could you do a roundup of where all your art is from?
I currently live with my boyfriend (tsk tsk haha) and it’s so difficult meeting an in between for interior decorating. Btw, he got me your book for a birthday present this year! So he knows I love you guys too! lol
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yes, we’ll have a post about that hallway art tomorrow for ya! As for the other art in the hallway, others have requested a frame wall breakdown so that would be fun!

Hello fun peeps, I can’t watch the video tour yet but I was wondering if you have done any posts on how you de-clutter, store your every day things, or organize your things. Your house always looks so put together and clutter free. I live in a small home and I am craving some airy rooms free from clutter but seems impossible.
YoungHouseLove says
This post and this post might help with that. Hope it helps Sharon!

Eeek, I’m sorry, totally unrelated, but I wanted to share and I figured you guys get a million-plus-one emails a day, so I’m putting it here.
These Haba wooden play food items are super marked down on Amazon. Thought you might be interested for Clara’s Kitchen (a sign in her “big girl” room that says “Clara’s Kitchen” might be cuuutteee… just sayin’!)
Here’s the website that’ll direct you to the wooden food:

Completely unrelated question, but where do you guys think are good places to try and get hold of second-hand furniture? I’m about to start a bedroom re-do (which I will totally share when I’m done) and I need to get myself a new desk, probably something vintage with good bones that I can fix up.
Problem is that here in the UK, flea markets and antique fairs are very scarce and there are NONE near me that I could get to and get a piece of furniture home from. We have craigslist but barely anyone uses it. I was thinking of trying ebay but I was wondering if you had any tips of where to go or what to look for when buying? THANKS! :)
YoungHouseLove says
I would still heck out craigslist (many Richmonders think ours stinks and we find things all the time on there!) and yard sales and look for thrift stores or secondhand shops (we get a bunch of stuff there). Hope it helps!

Henna {HENNA BLOSSOM blog} says
Nothing to add that I’m sure someone else hasn’t but…WOW, looking through the tour this time around, I just can’t believe how much you guys have done. So many of the little details and finishing touches you’ve added just create such a homey, layered, and designed look.
Oh, and I feel a BIT put to shame. We have been in our home for over two years and although we’ve done tons of huge projects, we haven’t done any of those finishing touches like ART…which really make it feel like a home.
BUT, I’m going to take that shame and turn it into inspiration. I’m inspired! :)
Thanks so much for sharing EVERYTHING with us! :)
YoungHouseLove says
Oh yes, the art is what does it! Art and curtains make a room feel like home. I bet you’ll be shocked how much it changes when you hang things on the wall. Good luck Henna :)

I loved how the video tour help me to put all the rooms (and doorways) into perspective! So thanks!
One question, though — Do you like having the master bedroom separated from Clara’s room/the nursery? Was it cumbersome to get there in the middle of the night when she wasn’t sleeping through the night?
YoungHouseLove says
We moved here when she was 7 months old, so she was already sleeping through the night but in the morning John would get her so I could nurse her in bed. LOVE him for that! Haha. Otherwise it wasn’t much of an issue, and it has been nice to watch TV and chat in bed after Clara’s asleep without worrying that she’ll wake up :)

Very, very cool. I approve! I love all the white trim. Your house is so crisp and clean and fresh and modern, yet with a touch of “comfy” all mixed in. GREAT job, and thanks for the tour!!
Nicole says
I really like your video tours. I love seeing things in 3D… you can really see the different textures, etc that pull each room together!
Also, so jealous of all the fun art you have going on! I need to get on that in my own hallways…
Lynn @ Our Useful Hands says
Where did you get that artwork in the boar….just kidding! I actually had another artwork question so I perused the comments section 1st so I wasn’t being redundant in asking. Where did you get the 3 or 4 Wharhol-esque mini pics of Clara that are on her frame shelves in her big girl room? And if you say it was a gift from the road on the book tour a big juicy tear is waiting to fall to the earth.
My best, Lynn
*love the house, love the tour, John looked like a creepy ax murderer in the frame wall in that one part, it had humor and suspense – loved it all!

Yup, book tour gift from a crazy talented reader! She just printed them out and changed the background colors in photoshop. So cool, eh?!

I actually did a little video tour of the condo we stayed at in Maui on our honeymoon and it’s horrible to watch! It’s nice to see the place, but my close ups of things like the dishwasher and the narrating are a little embarrassing, haha. Plus my husband loves to show it to people!
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, I get the same feeling when I watch these back. I usually watch it on mute. Haha!

Great update! I always enjoy getting the big picture view of your house. It’s very cohesive, which is always a struggle for me.
I was wondering where the lamp in the corner of Clara’s nursery came from? (It’s the only lamp in frame at 7:12.) I really like it! And my ulterior motive is that I’m looking for a similar shade for a lamp in our guest room :)
YoungHouseLove says
That was from Home Depot a few years ago. Very cheap too!

Joan says
Wow! Watching this video, I had the feeling that you guys finally reached the “refinement” stage — at least for the inside of the house. Examples: the new wall color in the kitchen, the board-and-batten in the back hallway, and the crown molding everywhere. All beautiful!
Can’t wait to see how you tackle the exterior and the yard. At this rate, though, I predict you’ll be be done with Listy McListerson by the end of this year. Do you agree? If so, what will you do afterward?
YoungHouseLove says
New house, new house, new house! Haha. The real answer is that we’re open to whatever ends up happening, but since we do this whole blog-thing to pay the bills now, we’ll need to find a new project, whether it’s a rental or a new house or something else that we don’t even know about yet :)
xo
s
Joan says
Given your business, a “new house” makes a lot of sense, but I hope you get to enjoy this one in all of its finished glory before moving! :)
Alyssa says
Oh how I love your house! I have a weakness for bright juicy colors! My question is, how do you find art that is both stylish and still represents something personal? I have so many blank walla and want to fill them, but I dont want just random art, I want it to represent who we are as a family!
Naked wall syndrom sufferer:)
YoungHouseLove says
Hmm, let’s see. We make a lot of it. And then we find things on Etsy and at local art fairs that we love (ex: a painting of a girl and her dog from Etsy is cute for Clara’s nursery and feels personalized since we have a girl and a dog, haha). We also have framed family pics, and even some instagram photos over the sofa in a grid. It’s a hodge-podge of a lot of stuff that’s homemade, hand made by locals or Etsy folks, and even stuff like free printables and 3D items like whale trays and metal keys :)

Beautiful home!! I just might take you up on that offer to come walk around for an in-person tour, lol! Seriously though, all the work you have done is really nice and it’s come a long way from where you started. Have you heard from the previous owners at all, perhaps they follow your blog? Makes me want to do a video tour of my own home just to have for a keepsake.

They do follow our blog! They’re so sweet and say they like watching us do all the work. Haha!

I really love that you do house tours. What a great way to see how things have evolved. Did you ever show the art that you hung in the hallway with the board and batten or did I miss that? Gosh is must be weird to have people asking you every little thing you’ve updated in the house. Sorry! The house is darling!

Great tour, guys! This is the first video I’ve watched, so it’s the first time I’ve heard your voice in over a year of reading, neat!
Any plans for the nursery when Clara officially moves in to the big-girl room?

I think it could just be a playroom for a while and eventually if we have another kiddo it could work for that :)

Ahh, are those Rifle calendar city prints in the hallway?! I saw in the comments that you will be posting about them tomorrow, but I love the idea. I have been thinking about how to use them in our house once each month is through, they are too pretty to put away!

I just recently had a baby and am trying to organize my photos on our new Mac. I thought you guys had done a post or mentioned how you organize all of your photos at one point, but its kind of time consuming trying to look it up with keyword “photo” when that is in all of your posts. Haha! Do you recall what post that was because it would be nice to have them labeled and in folders like on a PC, but I don’t really want 10 duplicates of one picture if that’s possible. Thanks!!

Great tour! BTW- I have been searching houses bc of a possible move to that area and I found your old house is for sale. Did you see that? They make mention about it being the home of Richmond bloggers and on HGTV. My hubby was laughing as I commented on the things they have changed liked I owned the house. Biggest change- the back room is a dining room for them.
