Since “holes in granite slyly covered by soap & lotion dispenser plus a bottle of Ms. Meyers cleaner” doesn’t really belong on a For Sale listing…
…we finally took the time to solve our hidden hole issue in the kitchen.
These two little buggers are leftover from when we swapped faucet fixtures and no longer needed all four holes (but we actually appreciate that they’re there because they keep things flexible for anyone who might want to switch out the fixture someday and accommodate an in-counter soap dispenser and a separate sprayer again). We’ve mentioned before how we’ve just been covering them with soap bottles and many of you have politely nudged us to seal them up more securely. And let’s just say the prospect of having a home inspector coming ’round was the final push we needed to abandon our current “out of sight, out of mind” approach.
Luckily the solution was a mere $4 thanks to these babies from Lowe’s (yup, they were less than two dollars a pop).
It only took us about 5 minutes to screw these faucet hole covers into place (though it did require two sets of hands).
We especially like that it allows us to declutter the countertop even more whenever folks come over for showings. Sorry Ms. Meyers, but you’re officially banished back to your proper place under the sink. Although any new homeowner who wants to go back to storing their soap on the counter could easily hide the hole covers again if that’s more their style. We actually really like the more open look though.
So yes, we’re kicking butt and taking names around here in the home improvement department. How you like me now?
I’m kidding. This was the easiest project ever, which required no tools. Yawn. Can’t wait to tackle big transformations again in that elusive future house of ours. In the good news department, we think we’re closing in on it. Counting down the minutes. (Note: This isn’t teasing. We can’t announce anything yet because nothing is really for sure. We’re just closing in. We hate that these things take time, but hey, they do).
Psst- We announced this week’s giveaway winners. Click here to see if you’re one of them!

Woot woot! Can’t wait to hear if you’ve sold the house or not? So I tried to look back but couldn’t see the post … are you waiting on a home inspection? I saw someone post that? Good luck guys!

Hey Allison,
We just mentioned in this post that the prospect of a potential home inspection had us ready to tackle the hole-filling project in the kitchen. Hope that explains it!

Way to bury the lead, Youngsters. I have had a FEELING that you may have found a place, and I hope that all goes according to plan so that we can hear about it already!
I have to tell you that I usually abhor it when people place items on their window sills (just my pet peeve in life), but that yours looks really cute. Hooray for sink hole covers!

Those hole covers are great, cuz you aren’t limited to a certain kind of faucet. On our list is a garbage disposal, I didn’t realize how much I loved mine til we didn’t have one in this house! Oh, and the ice maker, 2 things on the immediate agenda…

When re-doing our kitchen I choose a facuet that had a plate that covered the extra holes because we had a similar problem, our sink had too many holes in it…but I love the idea of getting the hole covers!

Amazingly simple. Amazing outcome. I think this just proves, if you’ve got a problem somebody has probably already found a simple solution to it if you’re just willing to go hunting for it.

Hey, I just love that you actually fixed the holes… there was a great big stain on our bathroom counter from years of never moving or cleaning under the ugly soap dish holder. They continued to not move the soap dish holder and hoped nobody would notice… which we didn’t, why would we move the soap dish when viewing the house? They left the dish and I was very very displeased to find the gigantic stain when we moved in! Very sneaky imho!

Too funny, we actually did the same thing in September, when we got a new faucet (Delta’s “Kate” from Home Depot online, we love it!). We no longer needed one of our holes, and we also found that cover! We “distressed” it a little bit to make it look more satin than chrome, and it looks great. What a nice, inexpensive solution. We’d eventually like to get another under-mount soap dispenser on the right for hand soap, since the dispenser with the Kate faucet works wonderfully and we’ve got it filled with dish soap on the left… but for now this is a great solution.

I totally use cover-up solutions in my own apt bc I know all the ins and outs but I’d feel the same way if I were selling a place. I’m sure the new owners will appreciate it!

John, you had me laughing histerically with your yawn there. We are undergoing seemingly minor renovation projects in our rented apartment right now (actually just painting …), but it feels like a major makeover due to the awful paint job on our doorways which we have to repaint and the never-ending sanding and scraping involved in the process. And don’t get me started on our brick walls that make drilling holes and especially setting dowels a nightmare. Ever feel like you want to use some power tools? Jump on a plane to Germany this minute and we’ll happily hand over our Bosch equipment to you. Yawning! Sheesh. :)

so there’s a “maybe” on the current house???? YAY! HOWEVER….will the youngsters be sleeping in a cardboard box? Hopefully all is in sync and you have the perfect fixer-upper on standby. Can’t wait to hear the scoop and so looking forward to all the fun future posts coming.

I have been looking for something to protect our stainless steel kitchen sink and I love the wire rack you have sitting in your sink. Where can I find????
YoungHouseLove says
We got ours at Bed Bath & Beyond- we use it as a drying rack!

I read the last paragraph of this post…and now I’m thinking you guys have found your next house (just waiting for things to be 100% certain) “counting down the minutes”..”we can’t announce anything yet because nothing is really for sure”….You’re good at building the suspense! :0

Wow, that was fast…I hope you sold your house and found a new one, just like that! Good luck!

I love your Burroughs tail! So cute. Mine is just a wee one as well.
PS-If you know where you got that adorable soap/lotion set in the matching holder, can you email the info to me? Peas and franks? [email protected]

It’s from Anthropologie (made by Cucina).

Ahh the joys of home staging! When we were showing our condo (just for renters!), we reorganized the whole house, took a bunch of stuff/extra furniture/etc to a family member’s house to store in their basement to make everything look big and spacious. (Even the outdoor storage unit was “made to look big” by redirecting our storage to my parent’s basement!)
Funny thing is, when you do all of this, you discover all of the things you can live without, because after a couple of months – you forget about them entirely! :)

I had a sink hole problem when we converted our faucet and separate sprayer. We also went from 4 to 2 holes. I fixed the problem by purchasing 2 soap holder/dispensers that matched the faucet. One holds dish soap and the other holds hand soap. I LOVE having both handy and it was well worth the $70 each I paid. (Crazy, I know…but it is something that makes me happy every day!) You could even put good old Mrs. Myers in one.
