As our sixth blogiversary winds down (and we stow the t-shirt launchers and airhorns until next year) we wanted to thank you guys for the good times. Hashtag thanks for the memories (please tell me you’ve seen this). Last year’s blogiversary concluded with a geeky graphic round-up of some of the most interesting stats from our annual reader poll, and this year nearly 30,000 of you guys took the poll at the end of Wednesday’s post, which was a pretty big contrast to our first blogiversary poll where I copied and pasted all 199 comment responses into a spreadsheet by hand). It was interesting to see what has changed since last year’s infographicized recap (and what hasn’t) along with just generally hearing what makes you tick.
In case you’re one of those people who’s like “BOO PICTURES. ME NEED MORE WORDS!” the gist is that on average you guys gals are largely 20-to-30-something, married women who enjoy reading blogs (surprise!) and reading books, who could use a little more dancing in your lives (couldn’t we all, really?). And as for anyone who’s not in the majority of a certain category, you aren’t fringe data, you’re extra special (heck, I’m a very rare species around here myself, being a guy and all). You know we love a smorgasbord.
PS: Guess Who graphic from here.
Update – Some of the most frequent requests that we get are for info about professionally blogging (how we made our site, how we grew our following, how we make money, etc) so we shared all of the details about how we started a blog, grew our traffic, and turned it into a full time job.

25% of folks are married or engaged, but 68% own their homes. I love these stats. Go independent property owners!!!

I pride myself on my ability to hold an entire conversation using movie and SNL quotes and song lyrics so the fact that you were able to weave all three into one awesome post is totally rad! Happy Blogiversary to your adorable family!
Confession: my hubby is a Marine and we’ve lived all over the country during our first seven years of marriage. When I found out his next duty station was going to be Richmond (just bought a house and moved in June…whoo-hoo!) my first thought was, ‘Sweet! We’ll be living in the same town as the Petersiks!” I’ve been reading your blog for a couple years now and just want to say thanks for always being real and true to yourselves. I’ve loved following you from house to house and cannot wait to see what you will do with this one! I look forward to enjoying and being inspired by Young House Love for many years to come :)

Aw thanks Amanda!

As an 18 year old male, I think I win the 1% minority award among the 382 males. :D And I’ve read your blog every day for about a year. Thanks for going 6 years strong!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Browne! I, for one, appreciate you very much.

I’m one of the <1% from South America, I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since I discovered your blog I can't stop reading it! I check it every day, you make my mornings happier during work time. I have your book here too!
Congrats on this blogiversary!

Thanks so much Carolina!

Ah, I love Blogiversary week and I’m sad it’s come to an end. But I can’t believe there are still only 6% Canadians! I need to recruit some more of my people :)
rachael says
I AGREE! I was shocked at the number, too! Here I am, thinking that my entire country knows YHL, and who I’m talking about when I talk about John and Sherry.
Bob says
Congratulations on 6 years from one of the 382 men who read along. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have lots of manly housework to do.
YoungHouseLove says
Ha! Go get those dustbunnies, Bob!

Brenda says
That Guess Who pic made my day!
Also, I just want to point out that since the “Generally Being Fabulous” bar wasn’t higher, it was probably just your lovely readers being modest. Because we all know that YHL readers are the most fabuloustest of them all.
YoungHouseLove says
Ha! It’s true. You guys = the bomb.com.

As always, your infographics rock my socks off, John!

Sherry – please, please, please tell us what to do with the metal honeycomb piece from Target. I saw it, and I love it, and would love to hear your thoughts! Even better, take us shopping to Target again. I love virtually shopping with you guys!
YoungHouseLove says
We have to do that! I’d love to see it in person and write up a shopping post. Hmm, what would I do with that…?
xo

Katie says
I second that!
Sally says
John and Sherry-
Your infographics rock. So do your references to 80’s-90’s pop culture.
I’m guessing that’s one reason your readers are mostly in our 20’s-30’s…we totally get your cultural references. Though my spouse is in her 40’s and gets them too.
I was surprised how few of your readers are married/engaged. I guess I thought that most of your readers are young couples with kids!
Congrats and thanks for six great years! I’ve been reading nearly-daily for four of them.

This is the only time I will be a 1%-er…. and damn proud of it! I honestly don’t know why more guys don’t follow this blog. It is highly informative, highly entertaining…
oh wait…. breaking news…. I was just informed by my wife as I was typing this comment that we are approved for a home equity line of credit to renovate our basement.
This 530 sq. ft room will be a real room… and all DIY of course.

Happy Blogiversary! I’ve been reading for years and have taken some home improvement advice, but now I’m taking the big advice from you guys. I’m buying my first place and you’re right, I have to be patient to get to the dream house, so I’m starting with a small condo in a neighborhood I love. Now if I can only master your zen art of being patient about pulling it all together.
YoungHouseLove says
Aw, all the best with everything Jes! You’re about to have so much fun.

These posts are always my favorite! I love seeing the breakdown, and the graphics aren’t too shabby either! Well done!
As a married (neat-freak) mother in her thirties, who owns a home in the US, with a cat and a blog addiction, singing ‘losing my religion’ at this very moment, I seem to fit right in! Thanks for always being the bright spot in my day!
Emily S. says
The graphics really made this post! Love the SNL and Guess Who references!
Geertrude says
Oh, this is funny. I’m just one of your average readers, except for my age (ouch! – I’m 42) and being European. Can’t change the first thing (they say I look younger though ;-) ), and I’m not sure where our current “maybe move” places us (Caribbean). Never mind though. I’ll keep losing both my mind and my religion and will try to remember to water my plants. I am a plant person by the way, most of my plants look great, the ones that don’t like sporadic watering are phased out naturally here.
I love the graphics! Wish I had your talent for that. I know how make them, but can’t come up with fun ways to use them like you do. Great work!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks Geertude! We always love hearing from you!

Love you guys. Love everything you’re about and everything you do.
We’re closing on our first house together TODAY (or Monday if the paperwork isn’t ready) and I have so many awesome ideas running around in my brain because of you guys. But the most helpful thing I’ve learned from you that applies currently is to have patience. So thanks for that.
Happy Blogiversary!!! Here’s to many many more.

Ah! What a big day! Congrats Larissa!

Julianne says
How fun! Not sure how I missed the poll, but it’s kinda neat to see where you fit in. I’m a little on the fringe, being on the older side of your scale and being from Canada, but for the most part, we all seem to love our blogs in our spare time! Lol. Congrats on all your success and looking forward to these year, after year, after year! :0)
Courtney says
So, looking forward… What’s this we hear about YHL book # 2? Eeeeeeeeeeeeeee when can we pre-order it?!?! Haha jk (kinda…)
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, you’re so sweet Courtney! We’re not finalized on the concept yet but we can’t wait to talk more about it! Probably won’t be out for a few years though! Books take forever!

Um, I love your infographics! You should totally do something for us to buy from you to use for our christmas cards like this: http://blog.persnicketyprints.com/infographics/
I’d buy that all day long! Well, not ALL day long because I’d probably only need to buy it once, but you know what I mean…;)
YoungHouseLove says
Holy cow, that’s so much fun! It might be hard to sell them since they’d have to be personalized for each person, but if John made one for our family I’m sure he could share an editable file with you guys!

I’m surprised to see I’m one of the few over 50’s that reads your blog, with my youngest child just moving out,I’m now ready to redo some rooms with some updated flair! I enjoy your family posts as I have 4 grandchildren aged 1-9 and like the links, ideas etc. that I can apply for them. My 3 bedroom house is evolving with these life changes and I love keeping up on your ideas that are not cost prohibitive but are fresh and easy. You two do a fabulous job and keep this Gramma up to date!!

Oh my gosh! Guess Who! I’d forgotten about that game! Love it. Always dig me some infographicky goodness.
Terri says
Kind of shocked that I’m way in the minority with others in their fifties at 3% I thought that age group would be much higher! We’re the ones who were young marrieds in the 80s and man, do we want to update our old stuff! So scary to paint it when we bought it NEW! Thanks for helping us out and congrats on 6 years!
Nikki says
Guess Who was my sister and my favorite game! Awesome info graphics!! Bloglovin’ week was so fun, excited for next year!!

I friggin’ love infographs. They are my spirit animal.
My boyfriend was actually the one that introduced me to YHL! One of the reasons I love him most.

WOOO to the HOOO for us old geezers (aka the 3% of the over 50 crowd)!!! I choose to embrace every line and wrinkle on my face. And there are MANY to choose from. With age comes wisdom, folks.
Thanks for a very fun week – and btw I teared up at the Soul Sunday clip. It was really sweet. Made me miss so many things.

Happy 6th Blogiversary guys!
And thanks for getting those songs stuck in my head!
My all time fave version of Losing my Religion is this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AewXZR1Rtt8 – from that show Rockstar INXS. Does anyone remember that? #tumbleweeds
No? Just me then.
It was on tv when my fiance and I first got together and we LOVED it. So much so that we just went back and re-watched every. dang. episode a few weeks ago.
Did you know that the 6th anniversary is apparently sugar and/or iron?
So, in the interest of pay back…

Only 1% in their 60’s??? I’m 69 and have been a daily reader for almost the whole 6 years, so does that mean I’m special… or young at heart… or just weird for my age?
And does 1% mean I’m the ONLY reader in my 60’s? Gosh, next year when I’m 70, I’m REALLY gonna be special!
Thanks for sharing your lives with us. Here’s to many more years of great blogging!
