It’s Friday! Let’s get mathy up in here. By now you know I’m a card carrying facts & figures nerd (here’s Exhibit A and Exhibit B) so when Sherry and I started to notice some unique stats about our new house my throat basically erupted with “LEMMEDOSOMEINFOGRAPHICSPLEEEEEASE.”
Whether she actually was keen on the idea or was just worried that disagreeing would turn me into some beastly werewolf-statistician, this post was born. We always end up loving random time capsule posts like this the most in hindsight (it’s fun to look back at things we probably would have forgotten otherwise, like this, this, this, this, and this). So in the name of some headed-into-the-weekend fun (because, you guessed it, we’re busy painting something) here are the infographicized facts about life in our new house:
What fact struck you the most? Was it Sherry’s creepy birds-under-glass problem? How do they breathe!?
Elle says
I was totally waiting for that to end with a partridge in a pear tree, but I think the white ceramic birds in cloches is more you guys. Also, I love the “lets go to the beach” chick.
Ashton says
HAHA you beat me to it… I was totally thinking of the song also!!
Dinka says
Yeah, I would be lying if I wasn’t singing along to that tune in my head.
And random Nicki Minaj cameo…I die.
Paige @ Little Nostalgia says
Same! In fact, it’s in my head now.
Anele @ Success Along the Weigh says
I was a little horrified at the 3 floors converging into one chic little spot. Kind of reminded me of the Mr’s childhood home. EVERY single room had some crazy patterned carpet and even different in the hallway. It was insanity. I can’t wait to see how you guys rectify that one. I know it’s probably pretty low on your to do list but it would drive me nuts! :)
Oh and I want to pet the deer.
New Homes in Charlotte says
haha yeah, I don’t know about those birds under the glass…
Kate says
The guest appearance by Nicki Minaj stood out to me the most! But in all seriousness, I really dislike seashell sinks. Can’t wait to see what you guys do with the place!
Kara says
That master bath mirror is SO pitiful! :(
Wendy Wade says
I’m a graphic designer so of course I love this post! You got skills John! Oh and the 5 inches of sink depth cracks me up. We had that when we moved into our house too….. wth!?
Alisha says
As concerned as I am for the birds trapped in airtight glass containers the 5 inches of kitchen sink was the thing that made me go “hmmmmmm” I don’t even understand!!!! I think our tiny pedestal bathroom sink is even deeper than 5 inches!!
keisha says
Eight inches of master bath mirror! Wow!
Liz E. says
the mirror….definitely the mirror… That’s tiny! And wicker…
lu says
How did you all learn to make infographics like these? they are so nice!
YoungHouseLove says
Thanks! It’s mostly just me playing around in Photoshop, nothing too special. Call it me rebelling against all of the times I was forced to make bland Powerpoint slides for school or work. :)
-John
Raeann says
How about those slick fonts?! Care to share their names? They are b-e-a-utiful.
YoungHouseLove says
“128” and other numbers are in Modern No. 20, “frames to be hung” is in Sail and “are white” is in Guilder. Sorry I can’t recall exactly where I downloaded them from!
-John
Linda says
What??? How do I join the Powerpoint rebellion?
Raeann says
Thanks, John!
April says
“What fact struck you the most?”
You seriously have 5 seashell sinks?! Good grief…
Also, I’ve been in painting purgatory for the last few weeks as well, so I feel for you.
Nicole B. says
I have to say that in the last house to have 5 matching sinks is a miracle!!! It seems that the previous owners decorated one room at a time and forgot what the previous room looked like..haha.
Nicole
@Rolled Into One
Nicole B. says
oops..what I meant to say was ..in this house to have 5 matching sinks is a miracle!!
I was overcome by all the wonderful statistics from above.. :)
lu says
I love these info-posts! :) thanks !
Heather B says
I can’t imagine living with a sink that shallow…or that many seashell sinks! good luck with all the Sink issues!
Caroline says
5 inches of sink depth? That’s pitiful!! Love me some numbers too!
Angie says
5 inches of sink depth? Really? Yikes, that’s going to fill up quickly. I guess it’s motivation to get plates and cups in the dishwasher right away.
Elaine says
The 8″ mirror made me giggle. I couldn’t fit all of my naturally curly hair in there!
A far cry from the 6′ mirror that our master bath came with…
Annie says
That master bath mirror can’t be for realz!?
Laura says
Oh goodness, laughing so freaking hard at Nicki Minaj. Good call Petersiks!
Jill in Colorado says
I am chuckling because I am looking at my white bird under a cloche – as I read this. (I even have a Pinterest board called “put a cloche on it”). Enjoy your weekend painting., I have two painting projects I’ll be working on this weekend too.
Kelly Fennessy says
Yes! So happy to know I’m not alone in my deep love of infographics. #nerdalert
Amanda says
That is one small mirror in your master bath! I think it must’ve been meant for a high school locker or something?!?
GreenInOC says
My favorite was learning that you had seashell shaped sinks – FIVE of them!
YoungHouseLove says
When I told my mom that she said “We used to have those in the house you grew up in! They were very in style back then.”
-John
Alisha says
I’m trying to figure out where all those seashell sinks are even hidden!
YoungHouseLove says
I know! We only have 2.5 baths!
xo,

Sarah says
HA! I love the teeny tiny mirror!!
Although, sometimes I’d a appreciate seeing a little less of myself first thing in the morning.
Heidi P. says
haha, true dat.
Nads says
Almost 700 sq. ft of deck?!?! Color me jealous!
Lisa says
Just have to say, I love the type treatment in this post!
Melanie says
Good grief, 5 seashell sinks? The horror! I’m also thinking about how inconvenient it must be to have such a shallow kitchen sink. What is with your sink problems?!? Augh!
Lindsey says
You’re kidding. 5″ of sink depth…that’s worse than my 8″ in my old apartment. Loved this post, btw.
Chris says
Perhaps she’s dropping subtle hints for pheasant under glass for dinner?
Corinne says
I am most shocked by the sink depth. That is not much to work with at all!
Robin @ our semi organic life says
How fun! It makes me want to do my own with our house!
carrie says
1. How do they breathe?! made me lol!!!
2. 5 seashell sinks?!? Wha?! Call Guinness book. (And you might as well mention the frames while you have them on the phone.)
3. I send my sympathies on the never ending blue trim chair rail windows crown etc etc etc
4. The silver lining of your not so deep sink = we have an old deep sink and the dish pile up is craycray. Hours to get a full sink of dishes done.
5. I feel like I need a #5….. have a good weekend!
Holly says
Okay, I second everything Carrie said. I woke up the baby with John’s “how do they breathe” comment. HA! I die. My hubby agrees with John. Boys just don’t get it…
elizabeth says
Ah…seashell sinks!! That takes me back to the house I grew up in..actually alot of what you have in your new house reminds me of the stuff we had in my house growing up..and it may be the trend again but Just Say No to grasscloth/bamboo wallpaper- that was a beast to take down in my parents old house…
Dawn says
I can’t decide which is worse: the seashell sinks, or the wallpaper! Love watching you tackle it all!
Diana says
The first paragraph made me laugh a lot.
5 shell shaped sinks?!?! The previous owners really knew what they liked and stuck with it!!
Laura @ Rather Square says
Your sink situation is crazy! Sea shells? Five of them? Wow! I’m excited to see what you do with those. I know it will be amazing.
We have a hexagon sink in our bathroom, but we kind of like it. At least for now.

Sheila says
Love it! Five seashell sinks? Wow! I predict some new sinks in your future.
Jennifer says
That picture of the 8″ mirror in your master bath almost made me spit out my coffee. How do you get ready in the morning with that little thing?! Hilarious.
YoungHouseLove says
Fortunately that’s just one of the mirrors in that room. The the vanity / sink nook area before you walk into the bathroom has a more full-sized one that we actually use. Thank goodness!
-John
Jess says
128 frames??? You might have a problem….though only 5 inches of sink depth would have made me lose my mind by now.
Sarah says
Great Stats! Deer follow John into the garage, Whoa! Did you know you were getting a new pet with the house?
Lindsay says
WALLPAPER. Hands down that is the ugliest thing. And 1. They in no way coordinate with each other, and 2. they don’t go with that ugly blue trim! Good thing you love a good paint job because that house is dying for TLC.
Stephanie says
2 things:
The Nicki Minaj face is hialrious and I felt scared and happy all at the same time.
The previous owners got real serious with the wallpaper didn’t they? On the outlet covers all matched up? Wow.
YoungHouseLove says
I gotta hand it to them for their attention to detail! I noticed in one spot where they didn’t and I was almost disappointed. I’ve grown so used to it!
-John
Ve101 says
Maybe the outlets hid themselves in shame and now all you see is their expressive little faces :O LOL
Ann says
The seashell sinks scared me the most.
Heidi P. says
This was awesome.
5″ deep sink?!?! That’s ridickerous. And that master bath mirror is just plain funny. And I’m starting to think the previous owners raised those deer from birth. But when the deer started to get a little too comfortable, the owners decided it was time to leave the nest, themselves.
Susan says
I can’t believe the kitchen sink is only 5 inches deep!! The mirror thing is also funny, do you think they maybe took all the regular sized mirrors when they moved out and replaced them with ones they didn’t care about? I love that it makes it so quirky! We just bought a house in May and our quirky previous owners LOVED hooks. There were 11 on the back of the coat closet alone, and they were also hung really close together some only 5 inches from the bottom of one hook to the top of another. What were they hanging there? Also there were 21 hooks in the basement entryway. So basically we will never have to buy hooks again, we just remove them and put them in other places.
HeatherB says
I have the 5 inch sink, too! What is up with that craziness? I mean, what’s the point?! Water splashes everywhere, and there is no hope of being able to actually wash a dish. Not even deep enough to hide the dirty dishes, for that matter.
The one that most struck me, though, was the 8 inch mirror–and it still there? I think I would have had to grab any available mirror and pop it up, at least for now.
The 128 frames is runner up…
BTW John, I am TOTALLY into the stats, too–I’m the type that geeks on that junk and people look at me like I’m a 3 headed martian :)
YoungHouseLove says
Still there! We have a nice big one in the sink nook area off the bedroom, so that’s the one in the sink nook within the bath/shower area, so we just defer to the other one for now.

Anne says
The five seashell sinks really struck me!! Ha!
Heather says
Call me nerdy, but I LOVE infographics!! Too fun!
Brad says
I love these posts and random Nicki Minaj references.
What about adding ‘Friday’ to the Forum Foursome so it reads “The Friday Forum Foursome” …you know, for the love of alliteration. Too much?
YoungHouseLove says
Could be fun! At first we didn’t know if we’d just do them on Fridays (you know in case we decided Tuesday worked better or something) so we just did a random graphic, but I think we’re sold on Friday so that could work!

Kristi says
No worries sherry I have a bird in a hurricane vase…it used to be in a cloche. Haha. Great minds…
kim says
you guys are too funny. I love the sea shell sinks. Reminds me of home. ::cough:: (they really need to go… )
Shannon says
I’m going with the floors because that’s my problem here. We are fixing up my husband’s childhood home and there are 12 different floors…all one floor!! And two are even in the same room! The 5 shell sinks are a close second though! I’m glad I don’t have that problem!
