It’s Friday! Let’s get mathy up in here. By now you know I’m a card carrying facts & figures nerd (here’s Exhibit A and Exhibit B) so when Sherry and I started to notice some unique stats about our new house my throat basically erupted with “LEMMEDOSOMEINFOGRAPHICSPLEEEEEASE.”
Whether she actually was keen on the idea or was just worried that disagreeing would turn me into some beastly werewolf-statistician, this post was born. We always end up loving random time capsule posts like this the most in hindsight (it’s fun to look back at things we probably would have forgotten otherwise, like this, this, this, this, and this). So in the name of some headed-into-the-weekend fun (because, you guessed it, we’re busy painting something) here are the infographicized facts about life in our new house:
What fact struck you the most? Was it Sherry’s creepy birds-under-glass problem? How do they breathe!?
Alaina says
Wow, your deck has more square footage than my apartment! That definitely is the stand out number for me!
YoungHouseLove says
Isn’t that crazy?! We both had 400 square foot apartments in NYC so it just about blew our minds when we measured it.
xo

Alison says
That deck is only a little under my house in square footage.
Melanie says
Holy tongue twister!
SEA SHELL SHAPED SINKS.
That wears me out. Ha!
Kelly says
Well, most are right on par for you guys’ line of work, but what struck me the most is the fact that I don’t think I have ever seen dirty dishes in your sink….have I? It’s pretty cool knowing you are right down to earth with the rest of us…LOL! You have been “de-God’d” of the-house-is-always-spotless from my point of view (this is not a slam on you guys. I think it’s awesome!!!).
YoungHouseLove says
Haha, oh yes you can picture our sink like that all the time because it’s constantly full!
xo
s
Katie says
I actually thought the sink photo was staged, just to demonstrate the lack of depth. haha!!
YoungHouseLove says
Oh heck no, that’s what it always looks like. Haha!
xo,

rachael says
The 5 inches of sink depth surprised me!!
Jamie says
What fact struck me the most? Your deck is a little more than half the square footage of my house. Color me jealous!
Diana says
I didn’t realize that but same for me too!
Randa says
Wow, there are so many things that got my attention in this number-fest (I love numbers too!), but what stood out the most-most-most was that a deer actually followed John into the garage???? Whaaaa?? :) If it was me I think I’d be a teensy bit creeped out by that. :)
Manda Wolf says
I like the deer that followed you into the garage. You seem to have very friendly deer at your new house.

Anyone else read this to the tune of 12 Days of Christmas?
Carmen says
Lmao I was actually thinking to myself the birds can’t breathe in there. Fun post.
Reenie says
I love it when you do posts like this! :) 5 seashell sinks…. oh my!!
Adorable pic of Clara and Burger sunbathing. HA!!
Jessica G. says
What struck me is that your deck is the same square footage as my apartment! Lucky ducks! :)
Heather says
Your deck has more square footage than the two-bedroom apartment I used to live in in Brooklyn.
YoungHouseLove says
We were thinking the same thing about some of the places we used to live in in NYC!

Abbey says
The master bath mirror struck me the most, but the birds made me giggle. There is Disney evil queen story in there somewhere – Sherry turns beautiful birds into stone and keeps them for her amusement! MWAHAHA! Kind of reminds me of that time with ya’ll and the butterfly. ;)
Shannon says
Totally read “5 sea shell shaped sinks” like fiiivvveee gooolldddeennn riiinnggsss!!!
4 chair rails!
3 different floors!
2 young house love…ers!
and a deer who followed John into the garage!
Christmas in July at it’s finest! OH YEAH!
YoungHouseLove says
LOL. This should’ve been the theme of this post. #missedopportunity #drat

Megan @ Rappsody in Rooms says
I love me an infogaphic! It’s also quite funny!
Meghan says
Did you guys leave a note hidden in your 2nd house like you did in your 1st?
YoungHouseLove says
Yes, and it’s really really hidden. We hope it’s not found for a nice long time.

G says
Love it! I also was wondering this :) I never thought of doing such a thing but I had such a good time discovering your old “time capsule posts” that I might someday… :))
Kelley says
The master bath mirror and the deer in the garage! Yikes!
Rachel says
Sally sold seashell sinks by the seashore! Those are going to be a beach to remove. lol
Emily says
The fact that you have 5 sea shell sinks!!! Holy moly! We have one, and I thought that was ridiculous! Where on earth did that trend come from! Yikers! Love watching all of the progress! :)
Joy says
Without a doubt, 21 windows to paint. I did 16 once about 25 years ago – without benefit of the cool stuff you paint over the window glass now – so you don’t have to tape.
I now have vinyl windows and I don’t think I have painted a wwindow in 25+ years.
Jobee says
But how many pillows are there? There were an awful lot in the moving photos…
YoungHouseLove says
Oh man, I should’ve counted those. Although it might be a bit too embarrassing… :)
-John
Jihane says
Could you please stop being so funny? It’s hard to pretend I’m working if you make me laugh every 2 minutes!!
Carmen says
Not so much a fact, but a photo: the deck shot with Burger licking his nose, Clara giggling, and the shadow of a hand with phone. Impressive photography skillz.
YoungHouseLove says
Isn’t that the best shot? John grabbed it randomly on his iphone!

Catherine says
Seriously- FIVE seashell shaped sinks? That is hilarious.
Meg C says
I love all the stats! They are the sort of thing my husband and I would think about but never formalize into an infographic. We’ll have to practice now!
I wanted to additionally let you know your graphic does not show up in the bloglovin app. I know several other blogs who have had a few minor things with so many new readers and wanted to give you a heads up.
Love the blog, the new house, and of course sharing your quirkiness!
YoungHouseLove says
OH NO! Bloglovin, why you do me like that?
Anyone having issues seeing it in other readers like Feedly? Anyone see it in Bloglovin and maybe it’s a regional/occasional glitch?

Stacey says
Wow! The shallow kitchen sink threw me. I never heard of such a thing. And the mirror too, that cracked me up.
Tiffany says
The seashell sinks were by far the most surprising! I wouldn’t be able to live with those for very long!! But that’s a spendy upgrade!!
And the deer following John into the garage is pretty hilarious. You don’t see that where I live!!
Lil says
Ha! Love this.
My favorites are the 5 seashell shaped sinks…hadn’t picked up on that fine detail before. Sink shopping in your future?
The photo of the 5 wallpapers…you will love this in years to come. Frame it somewhere perhaps?
Added detail that 92% of your frames are white…
You guys are too cute.
Also, love the new Friday Feature bit at the end.
Cora says
I think this whole post explains why I love you guys!
YoungHouseLove says
Love you back!

That mirror in the Master is so teeny tiny – time for an upgrade! :) Lovely little house infographic – love it!

Nicki Minaj and suffocating birds.
You just made my Friday!
Diane says
The photo of Clara and Burger is priceless!
The results of well loved and well cared for young ‘uns!
Teri says
We have 4 different floorings on our main floor also. But I think the 5 inch sink depth would send me over the edge. Please tell me you have a dishwasher in the kitchen.
YoungHouseLove says
Yes! So grateful!

Vanessa B. says
This post just had me in stitches. I am going to be randomly chuckling all day to your five seashell sinks (what?!), that ridiculously small mirror, and of course, the Miss Minaj pop-up. Classic. Perfect Friday smile inducer!
Karen says
Oh man, your deer. It reminds me of a time I went for a run and a mama deer crossed the street in front of me, and then shortly after its fawn started following me. I have no idea what mama deer do if they think you’re separating them from their young, so I started yelling and flailing to make the fawn go away. It wouldn’t budge, so I took off like a madwoman, and for a while the baby deer followed. To the casual observer, I looked terrified of a 2-foot tall baby animal. In my mind, by life was absolutely, positively at-risk. Because, you know. It probably was. Or something.
Kristin F says
You never know! I had a mama raccoon follow me two blocks, screeching at me, when I ran past her and her babies coming down a tree one time. It’s funny to my friends and family to reenact this one with me now, but at the time I was petrified I’d get bitten and end up with rabies.
Rachel says
Your five seashell shaped sinks make me feel better about the three in our new house. Although, ours have some weird platforms in them to store soap which is….unique. Man, I hate those things.
betsyjo81 says
We just removed a mirror from our master bathroom that was 12 FEET long. We still have two shell-shaped sinks though…
YoungHouseLove says
Holy cow that’s a long mirror!

I have been sitting here trying to say “sea shell shaped sinks” 5 times fast. I can’t even say it once. I keep saying “She Shell Shapes”. WHAT IS GOING ON

I love everything you guys take on and share—-love this blog & family! Your daughter is a hoot……her story was great…..:)
Alexandria says
I may sound crazy but I am so jealous of you guys! My husband and I are dying to buy a fixer upper like this house. So while most people would have a stroke over your sea shell sinks, wallpaper, and 5″ of sink depth..I am envious. However, we have a 2 year old and a new little one due in 12 weeks so we’re waiting a year or two. :(
Erin says
Hysterical! Those are five of the ugliest wallpapers I’ve ever seen! Esh! And, seriously, I think they have a 12-step program for that frame addiction.
Bailey says
Are you guys going to replace ALL of those sinks?
xox
Bailey
http://akabailey.blogspot.com
YoungHouseLove says
Well, we only have 2.5 bathrooms with all of those sinks in them, so we’ll be bringing in two new double sinks and then just need a pedestal or one single one for the bathroom downstairs. We hope to upgrade them over time, so it thankfully won’t be all at once!

Jo Ann says
And a partridge in a pear tree! Good luck!
Hollie says
You may have addressed this in another post, but I was wondering if you guys had come up with a name for your little deer friend. :)
YoungHouseLove says
The one we see the most has a white nose so she has become “the momma with the white nose” and she has two fawns that we call Bambi 1 and Bambi 2. Might have to get better about naming them.

It is so interesting to see what is important to whoever designed the house. I mean, that deck is HUGE and those sinks (even the seashells it looks like) are so small. And the decor choices are so 80’s-90’s. It does remind me of my parents house when I was a kid, and makes me proud of my mom for getting into this decade’s decorating style! I wonder if the previous owners just really liked that style or just felt it was too much of an undertaking to redo it all. Regardless, I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with. I think with the right touch this house is going to be so fantastic. and we all know you guys have the right touch.

Susan (Between Naps on the Porch) says
LOL I love this post! It was great seeing all those dated wallpapers lined up in a row and it beautifully sums up all the work and potential awaiting you guys in your new home. You have so much progress already so sometime this weekend, pour yourself a glass of wine and just slowly walk through admiring all that you have already accomplished! Don’t forget the outside, too! So impressive what you’ve done in just over a month!
YoungHouseLove says
Aw, thanks Susan!

I was about to say the exact same thing as Alaina. Pretty sure your deck is bigger than our entire apartment. Leave it to LA. Sigh.
heather says
I like the random depth of the sink. Also, I am going to admit that I totally forgot the forums existed. How quickly things leave my brain.
