Things I’m great at: making up words to songs when I don’t know them, eating Oreos, dancing like Elaine from Seinfeld.
Things I’m bad at: loading the dishwasher, remembering to get haircuts more than once every few years, and apparently doing monthly budget bloom posts.
I used to do them once a month for over a year, but then I fell off, struggled to get back on it six months ago with one measly post in February, and just never got it together in any sort of regular pattern. So here’s a random Budget Blooms post after over half a year of absence in that department. Won’t you forgive me? In return I played around with these sweet tulips that John brought home from the grocery store for $5 in not one, not two, but three different “vases.” That’s in quotes because only the first containment device is actually a vase…
It’s one of those free ones I got when a good friend of mine sent me birthday flowers a while back.
It was really simple and pretty, but then I broke out my metal thrift store pineapple urn, just because I thought the shape was sort of penny-tile-ish with that going on in the background.

Wannabe-artsy cropped shot:
And here’s my third “vase” – which is actually a tin lantern from HomeGoods a while back that usually lives on the dining room built-ins. It even came with a clear glass cup in the middle of it (maybe for a candle?) so it was perfect for tulips and water too.
Which one’s your favorite? And while I’m asking questions, is anyone else being better about treating themselves to inexpensive monthly budget blooms or doing some other monthly blogging feature? Have you ever done something for over a year and then just inexplicably gotten terrible at it? What’s my deal?
Psst- You can peruse a whole mess of Budget Bloom posts from the good ol’ days here.
Pssst- You might wanna check out the update that we added to the bottom of our homemade basket light. It’s such a small world!

Based on scale, the first one. The second one… hmmmm. the third one looks awesome, except the tulips look comically small in it for some reason to me. :)

I love the color schema. The vase goes so well with the wall. If i saw them separately I feel like I’d be scared to put the two together but they look amazing.

I like the first vase with these flowers best. However I am in LOVE with that tin lantern!

Being born and raised in the south (South Carolina to be precise), we love anything with a pineapple, palmetto tree, or monogram on it. So of course my favorite is the pineapple. Put a glass of sweet iced tea right next to it and you could fool anyone that you’ve moved to the palmetto state.

Definitely the lantern, its such an awesome idea !!! Or maybe cause I am on a lantern kick these days and just bought myself one to hang in our patio.

My mom is a floral artist and chairlady of a local floral art club. She has been both busy and unwell the last few months so I’ve been her personal assistant whenever I can be. I value the time I get to spend with her as well as the knowledge I gain but she always treats me to a little posy to say ‘thank you’. I love to split them up into three Snapple bottles (the ‘S’ on them makes them mine!)and place them where I can wake up to them. My sister and I have grown up with fresh flowers in our home and it’s a tradition I’d like to keep up in honour of my amazing mom.

Oohhh the third one is super fun!

First of all I definitely like #1 the best for these blooms. I think a fuller bunch would work best in the others.
Also, your yellow fish is a gurgle pot! I bought one in a small beach town in NC. I love the story and always love hearing it gurgle! :)

I like the lantern the best.

I like vase #1 best. The others take away from the blooms. All I see is vase with those. I love a simple vase when they are filled with tulips or daisies. Plus, you’ve got a lot going on in the background there.

I do a monthly “Pinterest Food Challenge” on my blog… which I originally thought would be so good to shake things up and try new foods. Turns out I only pin deliciously unhealthy desserts and dinners full of cheese though. Whoopsie :)

PS- I like the lantern as a vase! My flowers are currently in a champagne flute. haha

Haha, that’s so funny! Both the pinning unhealthy things realization and the champagne flute. Love it!

Like the clear vase best but….how about using your yellow “gurgle” fish vase shown in the picture…love that!
YoungHouseLove says
I love that too! It’s actually very small so I would have had to cut down the tulips a bunch, so I opted to keep the bouquet bigger and use bigger containers :)

I love the pineapple urn, but I think that the lantern would be spectacular if it was something a little more cylindrical so the tulips weren’t leaning so far over.

Oh how i love fresh flowers…i actually have some lovely tulips in my casa right now too! Don’t they just make you want to smile!

I mailed birthday cards out to friends and family for 2 1/2 years before falling off the wagon. It was the best New Year’s Resolution I ever made, and the one I stuck with the longest. Trying to revive, but it’s just. not. happening.
PS – I love the 1st vase the best, and the artsy shots with the 2nd one.
Chelley Black says
I like the pineapple, but if it were up to me, I’d stick them in your yellow fish pitcher up on the shelf. :)
Katie says
The pineapple is the clear winner here! Love the bronze and love that it’s a symbol of welcome.

They’re so pretty! Where do you get your blooms? I just treated myself to some flowers. I got two “bouquets” from Produce Junction (read: a handful of flowers in plastic, not arranged or anything) and added some greenery from my container gardens and voila! $5 flower arrangement.
YoungHouseLove says
These were ones that I happened to pick up for Sherry at our grocery story while I made a food run one day.

I love the first two! The pineapple is quirky and fun, yet the glass is so classic!

I bought the exact same tin lantern at home goods yesterday! I picked it up and thought, “For some reason, I like this”. Off we went home and now I see it on your blog, which excites me to no end! I am always very hesitant about my decorating purchase decisions because I am not very confident in them. So seeing that you have one too makes me feel better about myself!
YoungHouseLove says
That’s so funny! We got it about a year ago so it was meant to be for it to still be there for you!

I LOVE your GurglePot! I’ve been obsessed with them forever. I found a knock-off version at HomeGoods this past week, and even though it’s not the real thing, I still love it! Here’s the post if you wanted to check it out :)

The tulips look fantastic, as always!

I like the simplicity of the clear vase, so that’s my vote. I love fresh flowers, so would love to hear more of your monthly flower tips! During the summer I was able to cut hydrangeas from the giant bush in our yard, and my husband has brought home tulips just like the ones you have – I love the simplicity of one type of flower in a bunch. My favorite way to keep fresh flowers going is to cut them down after a few days, change the water, put in a smaller vase, and stick them somewhere else for a change of scenery.
Donna says
I’m really digging your penny tile, it looks so fresh and modern!
Angie says
Oh, I like the pineapple the best… a bit unexpected. The lantern is too much of a show stopper on its own. I notice it more than the blooms!
Sabrina says
I tried doing Monthly Blooms. My cats loved to eat them so much we had to stop. Now I can once in a while slip some daisies from the garden into a vase in the bathroom. You always need something pretty to look at while doing number 2! Off subject but any idea where I can get a really inexpensive jute or other natural material rug?
YoungHouseLove says
I would try overstock.com or wayfair.com. Hope it helps!

They’re all so pretty, but I think I like the last one the best! Although the pineapple one is a really reeeally close second- I love how it looks with the tile, plus you already have a pineapple in the entryway so its nice that it has a sibling! :)

Hey sherry! I don’t know if you follow Homegoods on Pinterest, but they repinned your lantern/vase idea! I saw it and got so excited! Just thought you’d like to know…
