It’s so hard to say goodbye, but in the words of Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton: something’s gotta give.
Parenthood, home improvement projects, and tons of other blog related undertakings have filled up more of our days, which means that our little t-shirt and print shop will be closing its virtual doors. We proudly rely on two local printing and t-shirt companies to create all of our YHL wares, but we do all of the designing, stocking, packaging, and mailing ourselves. We know that we can probably outsource those responsibilities, but it just feels like something else we would have to juggle – and what can we say, we like to be the ones who get our hands dirty and do the work ourselves.
Even though we know closing this door will open the door to future opportunities (and free us up to tackle more projects and write more posts instead of standing in line at the post office and calling in orders) we’re still sad! But we keep reminding ourselves that by simplifying and streamlining our to-do list, we can continue to bring you guys lots of makeovers, before and afters, giveaways, house crashings, and other things that you know and love. We’ve assigned an inventory number to everything that’s left in our shop (about 30 items remain) but when those things are gone, we’re officially sold out for good.
But enough Debbie Downering (yes, we just made that a verb). Let’s get to the hearts and unicorns portion of this post. We love you guys for your support of our shop over the past two years and we owe a huge heartfelt thank you to every one of you lovely guys and gals who ordered from us. We’re beyond honored that our prints hang on your walls and our t-shirts hang on your bodies. Seriously, nothing is cooler than that. We so appreciate your support and your interest in our designs!

What if you did a “weekly freebie” giveaway to clear out any stock you have left? It might be fun to see how many readers would comment in for a YHL (limited edition!) T-shirt or print!

Hey Chelsea,
That’s not a bad idea except nearly everything has already sold out! We also already do a weekly giveaway on the blog every Monday (stay tuned for one this afternoon) so adding our shop prints/tees to create two giveaways might have been a bit much. Thanks for the suggestion though!
And thanks to everyone who snatched up nearly every last shop item! Your support and kind words have been amazing!

I just peeked through your Amazon shop and I have to say, I am in COMPLETE agreement with you with regard to the show Six Feet Under. Best. Season. Finale. EVER.

Are Design Dilemma’s gone for good too? I will cry if that is true… they are my favorite part of your blog. I love seeing how to use accessories/furniture from everday retailers to pull a room together. No other bloggers did this as regularly and well as you did. I think it made YHL unique. Please let us know your plans on this topic! Thanks!

Hey Julia,
We’re desperate to get back to mood board making but to be honest we’re not sure if we’ll be able to take them on again anytime soon. We’re not throwing in the towel or calling it quits just yet though, so here’s hoping we can catch up a bit when it comes to other projects and posts so we can take on a few clients sometime soon! We’ll definitely make an announcement if we reinstate them or decide to retire them for good. And either way we’ll still whip up mood boards for the blog – they might just be more general ones (for ideas that many people can use) as opposed to boards geared towards specific clients (which take more time to create to their specific parameters). Hope it helps! And thanks for your interest!

It helps that I deliver my own mail to myself once a week which is why I love the business. I have given postal scales to members of my family who use eBay frequently and have decided years ago to give only magazine subscriptions as gifts for holidays, birthdays, and just because. Can’t think of a better way to help myself (job security) and to keep USPS alive and well for years to come.
I do love your blog and advice!

I’m surprised so many people thought y’all were closing the blog. John *just* started blogging full time so why on earth would you close the blog and go to a zero income family?!? ;)
I totally understand about closing the shop – I actually figured you’d do it much sooner.

Hi guys,
I tried to order some things from your shop, but they were sold out. As long as you guys are still blogging, it’s all good. For the prints that you were selling, did you make them yourself from scratch? Which program do you recommend for doing graphic art? Any chance that you will have a giveaway for any remaining prints?
YoungHouseLove says
We used Photoshop to design all of our prints from scratch. As for a giveaway, they’ve all sold out (we just have a few tee shirts in some random sizes remaining). Hope it helps!
