…let’s talk about you. During last year’s blogiversary extravaganza we polled our lovely readers to learn more about who they really are, and we thought that the beginning of year three marked the perfect time to do that again. So who the heck are you? And how you think we can amp up Young House Love in the coming year?
If ever there was a time to comment, it’s now. Please – no, pretty please – take two minutes to answer the questions below. And if you’ve never commented before or are unsure how, it’s easy. Just click the number in that green speech bubble to the right of this post’s title and scroll to the bottom of the page. Oh and real names and e-mail addresses aren’t required (feel free to make up something entertaining) so the pressure is off.
In a few days we’ll be back with a little summary of your comments (you know we like to read each and every one) so we can begin to formulate a bona fide plan to pimp Young House Love even more in year three. So without further ado, here’s what we’re dying to know:
- Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
- How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
- What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
- What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
- Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
- Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)
Thanks in advance for your input! We really value your thoughts, comments and suggestions. After all, if it hadn’t been for last year’s poll we wouldn’t have known you guys wanted giveaways… which means no one would be winning $500 from Lowe’s this Friday!

4. Can’t think of a single thing.

6. Question. How do you maintain your privacy/ security and run a blog about your house? I was thinking about starting a blog about our new house adventure, but then I started wondering about if the wrong kind of people in the area would take an interest in our house. How do you deal with that?

Hi! I’m from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. My husband and I have been married for 8 years and have two wonderful young kids and two kitty cats. We’re in our “forever home” by the lake so this site is a great resource for inspiration.
I already wrote this post once but I don’t see it on here so I’ll be short (maybe I missed it?)…
I think you guys are doing a wonderful job. I love the silly pictures, the before and after shots, the videos (what do you use to film?). It’s all great! The giveaways are fine but not a must for me. I don’t need to get something to come to your site, I get enjoyment just from reading your posts.
You have a wonderful home and you compliment each other well.
Keep doing what you’re doing because you’re doing in well! Enjoy!

2. How often do you read Young House Love? Whenever it comes up in my RSS reader, of course! I’ve only been reading for a month or so, though, after it was recommended by a friend. I immediately added it to my feed reader, though, and have been entirely enjoying myself.

4. What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? Don’t change a thing!
5. Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently? I don’t feel I’ve been reading long enough to really say, but I think you’re managing everything just fine.
6. Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? I’m so busy these days because we’re moving and trying to find a new home, pack up the current one, and get everything DONE.

3) My favorites are the Design Dilemmas, because I love to check out what you recommend, and it has even introduced me to some new stores. I’m also a big fan of your house crashing posts–I just love to see other people’s houses, and the DIY ideas. I have also benefited from some of your product recommendations, such as the Duron Tights Spots brush, etc.
4) Back to #3, I’d love to see more Design Dilemmas, House Crashing posts, and tutorials, such as painting stripes.
5) Any easy meal ideas/recipes would be good.
6) If you live in the S.F. bay area, you know that housing prices are astronomical, so if you live close to the bay like I do, you probably don’t have a very large or very new house…so I especially appreciate your attitude about living in a smaller, older house. I don’t even usually read the current posts because I want to be surprised by what you’re doing next. I adore this blog, and it is the only one I read religiously!! :) Thanks for such a great read!

1. My name is Sam and I’m a 23 year old female from Southeastern PA. (Wow, that sounds like an ISO ad.) I live with my lovely boyfriend of three years and am currently working part time at a preschool while attending classes to get my teaching certificate.
2. I usually read YHL daily or whenever there is an update in my Google Reader. I’m always checking my reader from either my computer or phone, so it usually turns out I’m checking out your posts daily. Maybe once a week or so I’ll hop on your website and check out some “How To’s” for inspiration.
3. I love DIY projects that are simple (which most of yours are). I also love before and after pictures from both you and your readers. My favorite type of posts, by far, are video posts. I love seeing your personalities and the dynamic between the two of you. You’re so cute together!
4. More DIYs and little tutorials on how you did certain things in your own home. It’s great for inspiration and ideas. I personally love organizational posts as I am in desperate need for some de-cluttering, so I would love to see more posts aimed in that direction. Overall you guys do a great job of keeping my interest and I love your balance of topics.
5. I know this is a home and design based website, but I would love to see more on how you both stay physically healthy and environmentally healthy in your home. I know from tidbits here and there that you both care about personal health as well as being eco-friendly, so I would love to see more of that incorporated into your posts.
6. No blog to share (although I always thought it would be fun to start one!), but I just thought I’d use this space to tell you both how much you’ve inspired me! I’m in the process of completely remodeling an old fixer-upper that my boyfriend and I just purchased, and I love coming on here for ideas and inspiration. I’ll be sure to send you photos once we have some afters (we have plenty of befores). It’s sure to be a dramatic change! Thanks again for all you do!

1. Who are you?
I’m a 35yo female living in the Sierra Nevada Mtns about to build a house with the man. Unmarried (we joke we are mortgaged, not married, its a stronger bond) with 3 kids of the woof variety that we ADORE! ENORMOUS GREEN FREAK – we try to recycle and re-use everything, compost, conserve, even incorporating it building our house.
2. How often do you read Young House Love?
Daily, sometimes twice daily…..I hate my job, so its my relief.
3. What are your favorite types of posts & why?
DIY, before and after, tricks of the trade, alternative uses for things and GREEN Options.
4. What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3?
More green posts or better yet, think of the greenest option for each activity so it becomes auto in your thinking. You guys are very responsible and I think that some of the most beautiful homes are very green and tasteful.
(BTW did you have to individual bottles for your emergency supply, wouldn’t gallon or 2 gallon jugs been more enviro friendly??)
5. Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
Places you shop for things, resources you use for DIY and house things. Also, what would you do differently if you had no money and time constraints on your house and where do you feel is the best investment for you buck in your house, where WON’T you skimp?
6. Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world?
Just keep up the great work, you guys obviously work very hard to keep up with the blog, its fabulous and we REALLY appreciate it, its worth it, you have a strong following:-)

3. What are your favorite types of posts & why? Easy DIY ideas, and before & after pictures because I love seeing the finished product. Also because I don’t own a home, it’s nice to see decor inspiration and other things I can do in an apartment that is portable and doesn’t damage the apartment.

5- Nah… You guys are good at sharing info about your life.
6- LOVE your blog! I used to live in Richmond and moved away a long time ago (8 years). My husband and I often talk about what it would have been like to have stayed there. How funny would that be?!?!

1) Female, 29 years, married 4 months, living with boy only 4 months, no kids, no pets, new house!
2) DAILY. Hourly even!!!
3) DIY, Before and Afters, and practical advice. Honestly, there’s nothing I don’t like!
4) Consider quality of products (like Behr vs. Glidden paint, etc.) Definitely talk about how to combine styles, how to find the new couple style…
5) Couple styles—something DIFFERENT about how to do it. What to bring in from each side, what to leave out, when to give decorating priority to one spouse or the other, etc.
Just started this blog, so there’s VERY little to show, but it will be up and running next week! thishawksnest.blogspot.com
Thank you!

4. What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3?
Include more of a variety of design schemes/stylings in your ideas.
5. Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
I love it when you talk about the budgeting of your projects – super helpful for planning out my own.
Maybe expanding the decorating ideas, as far as style, that you post. I loved the post, House Crashing: Gorgeous & Green Digs, since it was a little bit different style of decorating than you normally post about. Having a mixture of design styles to read about keeps it interesting.
6. Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world?
Very much enjoy reading your blog! You can check out my own modest blog at http://walrusrising.blogspot.com.

5. I love hearing about all the things all young married couples have to deal with! Compromising, fun trips, and incorporating different styles/needs. Just more fun to read about the same things we are dealing with!
