…let’s talk about you. During last year’s blogiversary extravaganza we polled our lovely readers to learn more about who they really are, and we thought that the beginning of year three marked the perfect time to do that again. So who the heck are you? And how you think we can amp up Young House Love in the coming year?
If ever there was a time to comment, it’s now. Please – no, pretty please – take two minutes to answer the questions below. And if you’ve never commented before or are unsure how, it’s easy. Just click the number in that green speech bubble to the right of this post’s title and scroll to the bottom of the page. Oh and real names and e-mail addresses aren’t required (feel free to make up something entertaining) so the pressure is off.
In a few days we’ll be back with a little summary of your comments (you know we like to read each and every one) so we can begin to formulate a bona fide plan to pimp Young House Love even more in year three. So without further ado, here’s what we’re dying to know:
- Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
- How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
- What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
- What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
- Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
- Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)
Thanks in advance for your input! We really value your thoughts, comments and suggestions. After all, if it hadn’t been for last year’s poll we wouldn’t have known you guys wanted giveaways… which means no one would be winning $500 from Lowe’s this Friday!

I’m Chelsea, twenty-three, and have been married to my dear husband for two years now. We live in Germany till 2012. We have no children or pets!
How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
YHL is on my daily list of must read blogs!
What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
I love your posts with Easy DIY Ideas. These are awesome for those of us who long to be creative and lack ideas of our own. :)
What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
I love your personalities and hope you continue to show them in EVERY post you write!
Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
Cooking?!? Maybe add a post every now and then about your favorite and easy meal in that beautiful kitchen of yours!
I’d love to read more about your friends! Are they as creative as you two are?
Keep up the wonderful blog! I don’t know what I would do everyday without it! :)

1. Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
Mrs. Foot- a 25 year old female in Northern Virginia. I am married- two years yesterday!- with two wonderful boxers.
2. How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
Whenever there is a new post, so pretty much everyday.
3. What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
Home improvements and cheap decor ideas. I am not very good at picking out items from Design Dilemmas, so I like when you feature your favorite items and what you would do with them. Styling bookcases, painting projects etc. Those are my favorite!
4. What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
More decor ideas and home improvements!
5. Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
Favorite things to do in your town. We’re not far (NoVA) and we always think about visiting Richmond and a little farther south. Would love to hear your favorite activities!
6. Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)
Yes, I blog… but it’s not that interesting :)

1.Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
MALE, 46, Boston MA, no kids, partner Charlie, and small Celeste, a beagle mix.
2.How often do you read Young House Love?
I’m here at least twice daily. I definitely miss ya’ll on Sundays.
3.What are your favorite types of posts & why?
Before and afters are the best, followed by design dilemmas.
4.What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3?
More before and after photos, and maybe a new house project? (obviously, someone else’s home, not yours all over again) I must admit, the videos are not my thing. (I also don’t do much youtube, so maybe that’s just me.)
5.Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
I’m just here for the design, folks.
6.Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world?
Thanks for all the help and advice. Keep up the great work.

Hi John & Sherry!
I’m Michele. I’m 41 (yes it’s so sadly true) and I’ve been married for 16 years. My husband and I have 2 kids (1 boy, 1 girl). We have 1 dog, 1 cat, 1 guinea pig, 1 hamster and 3 horses!
I read YHL every day.
My favorite type of posts are any that have lots of pictures. I also love your house crashing posts.
Advice for you guys seriously???? Keep up the great work!!

1. I’m Ashley, twenty-six year old gal living in Kalamazoo, MI with her boyfriend and 3 crazy cats.
2. I read YHL daily.
3. I love the DIY Ideas, anything about going green [you inspired me to make a rain barrel in the spring!], stuff on a budget, but i also love the Design Dilemmas too as I have those often in my house.
4. I don’t have much advice for your year 3; keep up the good work. The only thing I’d say is to add more Design Dilemmas but I know they’re time consuming for you.
5. “Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?” – No. Good the way it is, it’s a nice balance.
6. I’d love to start my own blog but I just don’t have the inspiration yet. I work for a horse trainer so I’d love to start a blog about horse training/the horse world but I don’t know where or how to start. Any advice??? How did you guys start?
Annelise says
Hi !
1. I’m Annelise, female, 25, Dutch, live in France, just moved into my very first (flatmate free) apartment (yaay!), no pets, no kids, sort of single :)
2. You’re on my feedreaderthing so I see your updates almost every day and go to the site every now and then. Definitely during work hours :)
3. The posts I like most are the before/after makeovers (by you and readers), the easy DIY ideas and the giveaways people from outside the USA can take part in! But everything’s interesting to read, really, hard to choose… Love the search/archive function as well, so whenever I have a vague idea of something ‘à bricoler’ I read up on what you did about that particular item/issue and it really helps to get my ideas straight.
4. 5. I don’t know what else I’d like to see, just keep up what you’re doing and keep documenting the changes, updating on older projects, etc! And including your readers in the blog is very nice as well.
6. Good luck on the 3rd year !!

I love the before and afters. it’s nice to see how people got their space to be so “picture ready”. It always gives me the motivation to try something new.
I love your blog! Keep up the good work. :)

Hello! I’m a 25 year old, female, from Wisconsin…recently married with a 6 month old kitten and a 3 year old cat.
I read YHL daily and always LOVE the easy DIY ideas, before and after pics, and design dilemmas. I rarely watch the videos since I frequently read YHL on my lunch at work and sometimes have kids finishing work or something during their recess in my room.
I don’t have any changes to suggest, just keep up the great work! This was my first post-wedding blog I started to follow…we bought our first home in May and I’m so happy to have found you! Plus, you’re helping me through the post-wedding syndrome. ;)

Hi –
I’m Ashley, I live in Virginia, in a suburb of DC. I’m 41, with a husband and 2 kids. I read your blog most days. We just moved into a new house, so now I’m especially addicted!
My favorites are the before and after pictures and the DIY ideas. Love the house crashing pictures. Also love when you visit stores (like IKEA) and post photos with ideas and things that you find there. I would love more design advice: help with chosing paint colors (ugh!!) also more clever organization ideas. I forgot to mention that I love your organization and housekeeping ideas – it’s always great to have some insight into what works for other people. Perhaps more elegant/low stress/not too expensive entertaining ideas would be good for the future.
I guess overall it is very inspiring to see real people and real possibilies. Magazines are great, but they are so beautifully styled with professional lighting, etc, that it all seems very unattainable for the average person. Your very real and doable ideas are fantastic!
Keep up the good work and congratulations on 2 years!
Thanks,
Ashley

2. I subscribe to YHL on my Google Reader – so whenever you update, I read it!
3. I love before and after posts, I love seeing how people interpret the potential of a room, plus before and afters are so inspiring.
4. Advice? Doesn’t seem like you need any…!
5. I like it just the way it is :)
6. A friend forwarded me your blog when I first bought my fixer-upper rowhouse in Baltimore. I’ve been a follower ever since, and I’m dying to try those striped walls in my own powder room – it’s on my to-do list! My blog is a documentation of my own house renovations and other random projects I’m working on, feel free to check it out.
Thanks for all of your hard work and commitment to this site, I love it!

3. Love all the posts but probably the DIYs the most & organization tips.
4. We currently live in an apartment so we have limited decorating because of landlord rules (i.e. no painting, etc. etc.) So more ideas for renters would be great!
5. I think it’s a pretty good balance – maybe any good restaurant finds in Richmond. (We have lots of friends there since we are VA Tech Hokies!)Maybe more budget-friendly ideas since we are just starting out. Though you are pretty good about this..
6. Thanks for sharing your creativity and ideas and personalities with us! And for taking the time to update regularly!

1. Female, 26, Ecuadorian live in Ghent, Belgium with my Belgian boyfriend. No kids, no pets.
2. Every day religiously, more than once a day I look for updates. It’s one of my “Top Sites” in Safari.
3. I would have to say easy DIY but mostly decorating tips. I’m very into decorating and the use of paint!
4. I love to see when you tackle other peoples spaces, or your own for that matter, and turn them around.
5. Your lives, your business. You decide what you want to share.
6. I discovered your site 6 months ago while I was writing my Thesis, a huge requirement to graduate from University. Very stressful times. It was just what I needed to get some perspective and know that while school is very important, life is about other things too. Your partner, your home. So thank you, you’ve been a source of inspiration and relaxation. I’ve since even made my own little version of monograms with mine and my boyfriend’s initials which now hangs in my living-room. Thanks for the idea!
Keep up the great work!

1. I’m Krista, 33, south-central Pennsylvania resident. I’ve been married 8 years and I have a 20-month-old son and a 3-year-old daughter. My house is enough of a zoo, so no pets.
2. I read YHL several times a day!
3. I like the before & afters best. They give me the most ideas for my home.
4. I know you have no control over this, but I would love to see more of the after photos from those people you give consultations to. We all see your recommendations and rarely see those ideas in a finished space.
5. Organizational ideas! Being a mom with little ones, I need storage solutions like you would not believe. And, I’m not talking about toy boxes with little bears painted on them – I want toy storage that is contemporary and cool. Is there such a thing??
6. We just bought our dream house in March and I have lots to do to it (carpeting in the kitchen and bathrooms – HELLO?!). So, I love getting cool ideas from your site. Whatever style you call your decorating, I like the same!

1. Katie from Windsor, Ontario, Canada! I’ve been married for three years and we have two cats and two fish :)
2. I’m on here probably twice a day, from work mostly so I don’t get to see the videos.
3. My favourite types of posts are easy DIYs, before and afters, fun non-house related posts, and shopping finds! I also love seeing other people’s before and afters, mainly because there’s a chance I’ll see something in their home that I have the same problems with.
4. I honestly can’t think of anything to make this place any better, I love it as-is! (Not much help there am I?)
5. Because I like them so much… the before and afters. Unfortunately, I know that those can be hard to get your hands on if nobody submits them! I also like the inspiration pages that go with the design dilemas, although a list of the actual paint colours would be awesome because I like to find them and add them to my design book :)
6. I’m moving into my first house a week from today! It’s a 1920s craftsman and DH and I are soooo excited! We’ll be sure to send you some before and afters because the paint colours at the moment are just WRONG :)

Good Morning Youngsters!
I’m a 24 year old famale in Boston, MA. I’m engaged with no kids (furry or human).
I read YHL everyday…it’s on my google reader, sooo whenever there’s an update, I’m all over it.
I enjoy the posts about the projects you’ve done or the great finds at thrift stores you had over the weekend. I love the little patio table that you redid. I’m all about those fixer-upper projects. I also really like the Reader Redesigns.
Not sure I could say I’d like more or less of anything. I love the blog, so keep it up! At the same time, I’m not sure there is anything else I’d like to know about…you guys keep me happily entertained.
And my plug will be for United Way’s Alternative Spring Break project. They send young adults from all over the country to the Gulf Coast, flood damaged areas, and the inner cities to help rebuild. The young adults going aren’t pros, but they sure seem like it. They take the time out of their spring break to be DIYers and help other people get back on their feet. It’s an amazing program that people should know about! Check out hard work at liveunited.org/asb
(And like the some of the others, I found your blog while searching for backyard weddings, as I’m planning my own! I loved yours!)

2. I check the blog almost every day
3. I love Before & Afters and Design Dilemmas
4. Our house is 105 years old with gorgeous, huge rooms and 10 ft. ceilings (lucky us), but they are so large, it can be awkward trying to figure out how to create a logical, functional flow. Frequently the readers who write in with Design Dilemmas ask about layout. The mood boards are great, and frequently you show items from sources I wouldn’t have thought of (at great prices), but maybe including some floor plans or space studies would also be helpful.
5. What do you all do for fun besides home-improvement?
6. I don’t have a blog, but I do have an Etsy shop: http://carthyjewelry.etsy.com

4. My only gripe is I can’t see your videos at work, but that’s my issue, not yours. Keep up the good work!
5. Not really – you cover it all! Oh, I do like reading the budget based posts and comments – very useful tips!

I peruse all the blogs several times a day in small increments so I enjoy looking at your blog a couple times a day! Usually while my kiddos are eating breakfast or lunch.
I love before and afters, design advise, any DIY ideas. I love when you post about green stuff.
I would love more easy DIY, more ‘design school’ like advise for those of us who are totally ignorant of how to decorate our home. I learned from one your posts a while back that toliet rugs are a no. I didnt know that! :) LOL!
My kitchen looks almost exactly like your before. Only with 3 layers of peeling paint on top! YUCK! I can’t until we’ve saved enough to make it look more like your after!!!
Keep up the great work!!

I’m a 42-year old faithful reader, really enjoy your posts and pictures. But I have to laugh, and I mean this with full respect, at you guys. We used to be you… then the kids came (three in three years, along with bedrest, renovating and selling a house, building a new house and so much more). When, and if, your time comes, it’ll be fun to see how your lives (and posts) change and the direction they take.

I love looking at your before and after pics and your DIY projects, I check out the blog when I have free time at work or sometimes at home when I am looking for ideas for our new house.
One idea that I think would be a good is to have DIY with a specific budget amount, maybe a monthly under $1000 or $500 room makeover, you do a great job of including prices and being budget friendly already but I think this could be a cool feature to your blog
I can’t wait to send you before and after pics of our kitchen that we are ripping out this Winter

1. Who are you?
Female, 28, Southwestern Ontario Canada, married 3 years (anniversary is TODAY!), together 12 years, and we have one cranky tabby cat, Dax.
2. How often do you read Young House Love?
I have my Google Reader page open practically all day, so anytime a new post pops up I read it! At work I can read posts while I’m waiting for an incubator or centrifuge cycle.
3. What are your favorite types of posts & why?
I love the before/after posts the best! Even better are the Design Dilemma with a before/after photos – I’m not as good at imagining how the items in a Design Dilemma will all go together. Green DIY projects are always a favourite. I hate video, since it takes so much longer than reading. A video can take 6 minutes to show me what I could read in less than 2 minutes. Video is great for showing a tricky step in a project, but cumbersome for full projects or full posts.
4. What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? Just keep doing what you’re doing! The giveaways are awesome, but if your lovely sponsors would remember Canada and other International countries that would be great. We read blogs and own homes up here too!
5. Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
To be honest, I’m more interested in the home projects. I love the little glimpses into your lives, but much more than that starts to feel intrusive.
6. Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? I have a blog: Clutter Cubed about struggling with hoarding and clutter, to prepare a home to be able to do the awesome decorating ideas on your blog!

It might be cool to see a post about layout and functionality, about how you guys decided on a place for everything, or about how to deal with tricky/awkward spaces. Speaking of Burger again, some more dog related posts would be interesting, too.
5. Not particularly, all your posts are interesting and personal already :)
6. Nope; keep up the wonderful posts!

4. More DIY projects, of course =)
5. I’m a complete home improvement nerd, but also a bit of a n00b. If anything, I would love to see some more basic tips, details on how you go about painting, picking colors, etc.

4.I love everything just the way it is…maybe more kids stuff…you don’t have to have a child or anything, just maybe things you would do if you did…like organization ideas, room ideas etc..I love the way you have decorated your house, but with a 2 year old crazy boy running around it is hard to have anything breakable in his reach!

1. I’m female, 24 years old, engaged, live in Charleston, South Carolina. No kids yet but I have a 90 pound lab mix who I treat like my baby!
2. I read your blog daily. Lately, I’ve been checking several times a day.
3. I love the before/after posts. The transformations you show are always amazing. I also love a good DIY post. I’ve gotten tons of ideas and inspiration from your site.
4. The only thing I can think of is the “We’re Digging” items- they’re always amazing products and stuff that I also dig, but they always seem to be a little pricey. I’m all about splurging sometimes, but maybe mix in some budget items? (And maybe you do, and I just haven’t seen them)
5. I can never get enough Burger- that dog is CUTE! But really, you do a great job of covering everything without giving away too much.
6. Keep up the awesome work, and happy 3rd year of blogging!

1. I’m female, 31, live in Massachusetts, married, no kids and have one cat, Penny- but we’re currently fostering a mother and her four kittens- Yikes! That makes SIX!
2. I read daily- sometimes I stop in multiple times a day, hope that doesn’t make me crazy…
3.I love them all, but the Design Dilemas aren’t as much fun as the “After” pictures they send in once they’ve worked your plan. Those make the first part better.
4. I dunno- hope you aren’t running out of projects, your house looks great!
5. I do like it when you hi-light products that are green or have Sherry’s brother cast some scientific light on something.
6. You offered, so I’m shamelessly plugging: stop by and OH.MY.WORD-if you left a comment, I’d be thrilled!

Hi, My name is Melissa and I am 30 years old living in Charleston, SC with my fabulous husband. I am a Virginia transplant that misses Richmond. I love seeing your posts around the city.
How often do you read Young House Love? Umm…I might need a “Young House Love” intervention as I am probably on here multiple times a day. Usually to see your updates, but most recently to replicate the stripes you did in your bathroom in my guest bedroom.
What are your favorite types of posts & why? Not a big fan of the videos as they are hard to sneak in at work. :) Love the design boards and the DIY projects.
What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? Would love to see more after pictures from your client’s that seek your design advice. It looks great on the mood board and would like to see how it actually looks in their house-scale, etc.
Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently? No-i think you are pretty open with your lives and I really enjoy your blog. Do your friend’s often seek your advice? Maybe their take on your lives would be fun to read. Set up a video asking them random questions about you two and see how different it is amongst your friends?
Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? Keep doing this blog. I love the daily entertaiment!! And if you ever want a really cool trip to Charleston-let me know! I work at a great luxury hotel!! :)
