…let’s talk about you. During last year’s blogiversary extravaganza we polled our lovely readers to learn more about who they really are, and we thought that the beginning of year three marked the perfect time to do that again. So who the heck are you? And how you think we can amp up Young House Love in the coming year?
If ever there was a time to comment, it’s now. Please – no, pretty please – take two minutes to answer the questions below. And if you’ve never commented before or are unsure how, it’s easy. Just click the number in that green speech bubble to the right of this post’s title and scroll to the bottom of the page. Oh and real names and e-mail addresses aren’t required (feel free to make up something entertaining) so the pressure is off.
In a few days we’ll be back with a little summary of your comments (you know we like to read each and every one) so we can begin to formulate a bona fide plan to pimp Young House Love even more in year three. So without further ado, here’s what we’re dying to know:
- Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
- How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
- What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
- What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
- Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
- Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)
Thanks in advance for your input! We really value your thoughts, comments and suggestions. After all, if it hadn’t been for last year’s poll we wouldn’t have known you guys wanted giveaways… which means no one would be winning $500 from Lowe’s this Friday!

4. Please no videos more than once a week. I’m rarely in a place to watch them and would much rather see pictures and text about the cool stuff you find than a video, which I’ll never watch.

HI. I’ve been checking your blog for a good long while now but I finally gathered enough courage to comment (amazing what a $500 giveway can inspire!). ;)
1. I’m Candace. I’m an engineer by trade but a girly girl by nature. We have no pets but I have a few plants that I coo at (love you, Alvin the Aloe!). I got married in June to the coolest guy ever (well, I think so) and we live in Minneeeesoooota. Brrr.
2. I check daily! *dances* I heart your blog. I love that you are stylish, on a budget, DIyourself-ers, insanely organized, spunky and green! It’s everything that I want to be! I am inspired! Let’s be friends!
3. It’s hard to pick my favorite posts – I like that your blog is so dynamic…you have pictures, products, tips, mood boards…it’s all fabulous!
4. I love not only the design aspects of your blog – but the tid bits about everyday life…how to stay organized, keep the house clean, how you two save money and live life simply (and green), etc.
5. The Candace random. I run. I’m 30. I admit to watching trashy reality TV and I love my kitchen aid.
Cheers! You guys are awesome!

3. I love the design dilemmas because it is interesting to see what solutions you come up with for different space, color, etc. issues–I do wish more of your design dilemma clients would send the afters for our viewing pleasure.
4. I like the rare video but I prefer pictures. Also, if you would include more discussion about where your inspiration for your projects comes from–if you saw a picture, someone else’s house, etc.
Great job, I really enjoy your blog!

3. I’ve never met a YHL post I didn’t like. I love that you keep it real and let your personalities shine through. Mood boards are not my top interest, but I at least browse over them looking for any super cool pieces.
4. What about giving new life to old things? You do this already, but I think readers would appreciate some earth-friendly, wallet-friendly ideas.
5. What is your favorite way to entertain friends at your home? Dinner? Brunch? Games? Movie night?

Hi! I be LizzieBeth. I am 28/F from Philadelphia area and engaged.
No kids.. just put down my cat of 18 years :( Thinking of surprising the fiance with a dog for his 30th in Oct. (shhh, don’t tell him ;)
I read YHL daily. Usually at my downtime at work.
I LOOOOVE the reader redesigns. Just knowing that some smo like me can do stuff like that makes me feel good. DOn’t get me wrong, I love your work, but you guys are … well, not professionals, but definitly more artsy then I. I can’t draw tress on my walls in chalk ;)
I would really love to see the “afters” of the mood boards you create. I know that isn’t really something you control, but your ideas look so great on paper I would love to see them in person.
One thing I would like to request… less videos. Honestly, I don’t watch them. I watched the one about the garage cleaning, but I have no clue what’s going on with the nursery because I don’t care to watch the videos. I’ll pay more attention when you have pictures and text. It also makes it easier for me to refer back to it, if I wanted do it myself.
Your blog is obviously geared towards home improvement, but I think you add enough of your personal lives to make it interesting. I wouldn’t change a thing!
::points up::: feel free to check out my corner of the world. It’s a Lizzie in Progress ;)

Hey Guys! LOVE the blog!
1. I’m Sheena, a graphic designer and photographer. With my job I deal a lot with kitchen sets, so staying up with interiors is part of my daily life. I’m a 25 year old female who lives in Michigan. I live by myself in an apartment and I love getting ideas from your blog on how to spruce it up. No kids, and I have a no pet policy, which a bummer!
2. YHL is on my RSS feed, which I check usually once a day.
3. My favorite kinds of posts are the Easy DIY ideas (for my apartment) and the before/afters to see what really is possible. I also LOVE your giveaways, and your videos are always entertaining.
4. I like seeing your mood boards, but I want to see the after photos too! I wish more people would send them in. More DIY projects couldn’t hurt either! (But that’s just because I’m nuts over them.
5. I like your tips and tricks. Your keeping clean, organized, etc. and seeing how you two tackle common problems.
6. I have a food blog (f00die.blogspot.com) that is just getting started, but I must admit my HGTV addiction and YHL daily reads are inspiring my focus to interior design and daydreaming about that. I’ll have to open a personal blog for any DIY projects I may attempt. I’m always looking for new things for my blog from restaurant suggestions to new recipes, so feel free to give me a shoutout!
Keep on doing the good thing!

3. Before and afters and decorating tips. Also your product recommendations. I don’t watch the videos b/c I usually read at work and can’t watch them there. I love the giveaways, of course.
4. Less videos, more pictures. I would love to know how you find decorating items. Where do you look and how do you pull it all together.
5. Advice on color coordination. Finding things that mix and match together and find a color scheme.

2. I read your blog twice a day. I just found you guys about 2 months ago so I am in the process of reading all of the archives ( I can’t remember if I found you through CraftNest or Ikea Hacker).
3. My favorite posts are the Easy DIY ideas, before & afters and Wedding Crashers!
4. I would love to see more Wedding Crashers and before/afters but if not, I will still be a devoted fan. I love all of your posts.
5. I would love to see more easy & out-of-the box organizing tips since I have such issues in this area (but that’s just me) and budget advice, but again I love everything you do so it is all good.
6. a)I am addicted to Blogs (but yours is def. my favorite). Somebody help me please!!!
b)I’ve always wanted to move to VA since I visited Roanoke in college but now I am totally inspired to move to Richmond (p.s. I am not a stalker). You make it seem like such a great place to live. Any advice?

3. What are my fave posts and why? I love any having to do with “going green” and looking for new ways to use items we already have. Most of all, I love your creativity.
4. Advice? I love before/after photos and would to see more of them. I never watch the videos because I’m often not in a place where I can watch them and my computer doesn’t have sound anyway.
5. Nope, it’s all good!

1. Female, 51, single, Maryland, three cats.
2. Read YHL Daily.
3. I like the custom mood boards, especially when the person who has purchased the mood board sends photos of the “after.” (Those are like porn for me.)
I also like anything that deals with repurposing/recycling stuff. This is an area of interest for me lately.
4. I honestly can’t think of something I want you to do to make YHL “better.” You two are very appealing as you are. If anything, I’d say “more videos” because you two are naturals in front of the camera.
Another thing I enjoy is reading your reader’s comments. I learn a lot in the comments section. I wonder if you might develop that aspect a little further.
5. Anything you care to share with your readers is fine by me. But I tend to be very appreciative and rather undemanding of the blogs I read.
6. I am waiting for you both to be “discovered” and have your own home show/production company/omnimedia megacorporation, like Martha.

5. I really enjoy the Dr. Dan posts. Learning about been green and such topics as that.
6. We’re in the process of building our first home, so anything about starting from scratch would be great. I have to agree with some of the other commentors. No more than 1 video a week. 4.I think everything about your site is fun, laid back, and easy to relate too. Being a newlywed, it is nice to get an inside view on how “real” couples live (esp ones who are my age!) and it gives me tons of inspiration and ideas to incorporate into my own first house/married life!
5.Maybe some more shopping trips would be fun, like where to buy certain home decor items or whatnot at good prices? Or it would be hilarious if you would house crash your readers and help them with home renovations/projects!! I can always dream….hahaha! Keep up the good work!!

1.Female, 36, married, Bermuda.
2.Once a day.
3.Easy DIY is great, but the before and after are a lot of fun. I love the recommendations for paint colours. I recently had to quickly chose a bedroom colour for a new room post-renovation and scrolled through old posts to find your recommendation of Glidden Sand White and ran with it. I’m VERY happy with the result!!! I also saw the post on the capri shell chandelier and when I saw one for sale here for half price decided to run with that too because I knew it worked from your endorsement and pics and it is literally my top special pride of point in my house. I got a big one that goes over my dining room table and it works perfectly- not too island-tropical (something I avoid living in Bermuda) but works great here. Makes a lovely tinkling sound from breeze coming through patio.
4. I never watch videos online, particularly as I check this site during the day at work for a break, so can’t even if I wanted to (which I don’t). I’d drop them from the site and instead beef up design-for-dummies topics like the magazine Real Simple does. The blog on jewellry storage was great for that. I like the idea of the perfect paint section (ie. if you want red, go with this red, if you want white, go with this white, if you want blue, go with this blue, for those of us who can’t chose paints to save our lives).
5. I’d like more outdoor curb appeal tips.

The B&A’s are great because they are achieveable beautiful designs done by real people! Home decorating shows give an unrealistic idea of the process, *I* think anyway. Just knowing that actual people can create amazing things with sweat equity is SO inspiring.
4.) More projects!! Maybe guest bloggers who share their own DIY ideas?
5.) I think you have a pretty good mix… I’m a huge dog lover though, so more about Burger would be something I’d personally like.

Also, the videos are hilarious, but I do prefer the posts with photos because they’re faster and easier to check out at work.
6. My husband and I are especially big fans because we’re fellow Wahoos (graduated 2006) and lived in NYC for three years :)

This sounds very expensive, but it would be awesome if you guys bought another property for a rental or something and walked us through fixing it up.

1. My name is Meredith from outside of Philly. I am 26, married for 5 years to my wonderful hubs, Mark. No kids yet, but we spoil our 7-year-old Pointer mix Cooper like crazy!
2. I read Young House Love daily, most often several times a day. We’ve used several of your ideas by now, and have come up with some on our own using you as inspiration.
3. I love to see your before and afters, especially when you do them on the cheap and in one day. I adore seeing b & a’s from everyday people who think they have little to no decorating skills, but can pull off amazing transformations with your help and guidance.
4. I agree with the commenters who would like to see a post from Burger’s perspective. You two are so well-versed and creative that you could have tons of fun with that one.
5. I think that John should start a post that speaks mainly to men to show that real men cook and do laundry. Maybe that’s your title? Just some recipes, tips, and short-cuts for married men and bachelors who want to add some style to their lives.
6. I would love to see you link up your network of readers to allow us to share decorating ideas, recipes, fashion tips, etc. among ourselves – kinda like a huge swap?

5.Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently? not that I can think of.
6.Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? I just started a blog…it’s http://www.gabbygibbs.blogspot.com. it is simple, but I am enjoying it!

Who are you? Female, 27, Seattle, married just over a year, no kids or pets yet!
How often do you read Young House Love? You’re on my Google Reader – I check in whenever I see you have something new posted (generally this occurs at work…)
What are your favorite types of posts & why? My favorites are the DIY ideas, also the affordable finds from Target and Ikea.
What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? I’m also not a big fan of the videos (I read your blog at work). Of course, more DIY projects! Holiday decorating ideas would be cool. I’d also like to see more Almost Dr. Dan! Love him! I also love all your organization tips, so any more of those would be good. Also, I love your mood boards, but don’t quite need an entire room overhaul. If you had a way for people to ask more specific, targeted questions for free or less $$$, I think that would go over quite well.
Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently? Hmmm. Maybe more financial and general money saving tips? I’m hoping to start my own business and work from home within the next year or so, and any insight on how you made that transition financially and career wise would be cool.
Keep up the good work!

2. How often do you read Young House Love? Does saying multiple times a day make me seem addicted… oh well, the truth hurts.
3. What are your favorite types of posts & why? I am a sucker for Before & After’s, but I love that you guys pass along big as well as small ideas.
4. What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? I wish I had wise words for you… but all I have is keep doing what you’re doing.

2. I check for updates on your blog whenever I have a chance at work.
3. I love the reader redesigns and before and after pics, they make me realize that anyone can make their spaces better, not just DIY geniuses like you two!
4. I would love to see more House Crashing, those are so fun. Also, perhaps you could elaborate on more landscaping and gardening projects – I did this over the summer and it is challenging!
5. I’d like to know the process you use to find all those great items for your mood boards, finding a great pillow on Amazon? Seriously? I would’ve never looked there. Also – why does Sherry love wearing black all the time?
6. My blog is new and it is hard to update it without comparing it to yours. My projects aren’t as lovely as yours! http://www.russetstreetreno.com

2. I’m a blogger (just about the baby for family far away) and so I end up checking your blog nearly every day. Since we are in the midst of ‘crunch zone’ in getting our house ready for move it (Saturday) I need lots of help and advice. I have always been a HUGE bargin shopper but have trouble putting my TJ Maxx items together to make a all-round style. I love your style and find myself mimicking your decor!
3. All you posts are great. I love the “HOW TO” section. I glance at your daily entry then search for what I’m looking for.
4. I totally understand that you don’t have kids and no pressure, but it would be nice to see some more kid friendly ideas (decor ideas.)
Keep on blogging! You are very talented and humorous as you write. I love it!
