…let’s talk about you. During last year’s blogiversary extravaganza we polled our lovely readers to learn more about who they really are, and we thought that the beginning of year three marked the perfect time to do that again. So who the heck are you? And how you think we can amp up Young House Love in the coming year?
If ever there was a time to comment, it’s now. Please – no, pretty please – take two minutes to answer the questions below. And if you’ve never commented before or are unsure how, it’s easy. Just click the number in that green speech bubble to the right of this post’s title and scroll to the bottom of the page. Oh and real names and e-mail addresses aren’t required (feel free to make up something entertaining) so the pressure is off.
In a few days we’ll be back with a little summary of your comments (you know we like to read each and every one) so we can begin to formulate a bona fide plan to pimp Young House Love even more in year three. So without further ado, here’s what we’re dying to know:
- Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
- How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
- What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
- What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
- Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
- Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)
Thanks in advance for your input! We really value your thoughts, comments and suggestions. After all, if it hadn’t been for last year’s poll we wouldn’t have known you guys wanted giveaways… which means no one would be winning $500 from Lowe’s this Friday!

Female, 30, Richmond, VA, married (as of May 9 of this year!), no kids, two dogs
I have YHL on my Google Reader so I read it daily when I have time at work
My favorite posts are easy DIY idea, before & after ideas, and major improvement undertakings. I read to get inspiration and ideas for improvements on my house.
More before & afters and more of the house tours of people who have done cool things with their houses.
I can’t think of anything else.
I can’t think of anything else other than I think you guys have a great website and I’m so excited that I found it. Oh, and I’m curious as to what part of Richmond you live in — I live a few blocks from Carytown in the Carillon neighborhood in a house that was built in 1920 and I think it’s fantastic, but challenging (all old houses are).

3. I love reading DIY and How To’s. I also like posts about Burger and videos. I LOVE YOUR WEDDING ALBUM!

5. I like when you talk about the places you visit on your road trips. I like when anyone shares their favorite places and vacation spots… and their favorite things to do in those places.

3. I love the house crashing posts, DIY ideas, and Before & Afters, oh and of course seeing how you two are still changing your beautiful home!
4. Will the shop be updated soon? I think you could really put your DIY ideas into motion and maybe offer an item for a limited time. That would be fun to see (and of course purchase!)
I loved the post with pics on how your living room/dining room evolved. i think that would be great to include in your house tour- but maybe that would take up a lot of room… It’s so nice to see the evolution of a room- what time, money, and fresh ideas do to a space.
5. You two rock! I’m so glad to see you two get so much recognition which I’m sure will only increase as the years go by! You two are quite inspiring. :)

3. My favorite types of post are the before and after, it gives me ideas on how i should do with my first home. Plus, DIY ideas, i made my upholstered headboard from your “How-to”, everyone loved it! And I love your home improvement videos and design delimmas. I love what you two do with YHL already, so it can be the same, it’s still fabulous.
4.Sorry no advice, it’s perfect already, as you can see, i’m addicted to this website!

2. I subscribe in a reader, and I read all the time!
3. I love before-and-after photos (who doesn’t) and any easy DIY ideas!
4. I’m not a huge fan of videos … I haven’t watched any of yours, so don’t take it personally. I just usually check your blog when I’m at work (for shame!), and don’t want to seem super conspicuous watching a video! Like I said before, I LOVE the before-and-afters, especially when it’s something small that makes a big difference. That is SO inspiring.
5. Not really!
6. Well, I have a blog, http://www.andbabymakeseight.com, which started out as a blog about my son, but now is about 50/50 kid/home improvement projects. We’ve done a lot of stuff to our house, like tearing down walls and redoing the kitchen, but I’m starting to realize that we haven’t added much style … and that’s where you guys come in!

2. I read your blog daily. We live in a 1950 all-original brick rambler and are planning a massive remodel but doing a few smaller projects right now. We moved to this bigger (3600 sq. ft.) house last year when we were expecting twins. Our previous home was a 1952 brick rambler (2500 sq. ft.) and we remodeled a lot of that home. We love the old mixed with the new.
3. I love the before and after, the design dilemmas, the reader redesigns, and everything else! Well written posts. Beautifully-styled mood boards. Very entertaining blog.
4. I can’t think of anything more. Maybe how to choose a contractor for the things you can’t DIY.
5. I have a blog for my family (private) and a blog for things I love (InspireCreateLove.blogspot.com). I’m hoping to start posting before/after photos and info about our home projects. The changes so far in our house have been influenced by you. Thanks for the inspiration!

2. Read you everyday, sometimes twice, usually at work when I have down time.
3. I have found some of you How To’s helpful, love the before and afters, love the house crashing. I am inspired to tackle my own projects by you guys!
4. The video’s are kind of silly. I found the one with Sherry and Katie at the swanky shop showing us how to cover a glass cylinder with burlap and paint a wine bottle pretty lame, frankly. Sure, any of us could replicate some of these over priced boutique items but who would want to? How about quality instead of quantity?
5. More house crashing…love these! Your house is great and I have really enjoyed seeing it’s transformation, so bring on transformations of other people’s houses as well!

5. Gardening? I’m not sure if this is an area you’d feel particularly confident in, but it’s pretty important to many homeowners.

3. I really enjoy all of your posts!
4. I’d like to see something along the lines of a modified ‘Reader Design Dilemma.’ I don’t need an entire room redo, but it would be helpful to send pictures showing one part of a room & get critiques about what is working, what is not working.
5. One other suggestion, when pointing out an item, maybe show it at 1 or 2 price points? Most of the things you suggest are budget friendly but I don’t need kid friendly furniture anymore, so I’m OK with finding something that might be pricier but will be around for the long haul!

What are your favorite types of posts & why? I like seeing others homes and the way they’re decorated. I also like the DIY ideas.
What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? Haven’t been around long enough to dish out advice yet. I’m still having fun getting caught up!

I am a 27-year old woman from Massachusetts- a high school history teacher. I am a single home-owner which has been amazing- I bought my house almost a year ago. I have a 4-year old Chihuahua named LaLa. I added YHL to my reader last week and have been trying to catch up on old posts when I have free time, not as often as I’d like though. I’m a fan of the DIY ideas and before and after pictures. I’ve enjoyed your posts about what items have worked for you in your home, or how you’ve repurposed items in an unexpected way. While I’m at it I may as well add a little plug for my blog that I recently started: http://www.onlymejamie.blogspot.com where I pretty much chronicle the funny/ridiculous things that happen to me- falls, trips, misunderstandings- I’m pretty prone to these types of incidents! Thanks for all your inspiration for home ideas!

5. I think you have a great balance, no need to get too personal but getting a little personal is nice.

Hi, my name is Dana and I’m a YoungHouseLoveaholic.
I’m 25 and live in Tulsa, OK with my husband and our sweet pooch. Within the last year we got married and closed on our very first home. Your blog has been a huge sorce of inspiration for decor, home improvement, and simple, organized, eco-friendly living. Thank you!
I read your blog daily, usually while I’m sipping my coffee in the morning at work and gearing up for the day ahead of me. I often check back around lunch and again before I head home (see, YoungHouseLoveaholic).
My favorite posts are about the simple, inexpensive things that can be done to make a huge different around the home. (for instance, your in-cabinet cork board). I also love posts about repurposing items in a new way or seeing a refinishing job on a piece of furniture. And let’s not forget the home improvement how-to posts! It’s so helpful to get instructions and tips from real people who have been there, done that, and got the t-shirt.
Basically, I love that when I visit your blog I know what to expect. It’s a source of inspiration for home improvment, organization, and simple, eco-friendly living. Please don’t change that! I would hate to see topics stray to fashion, recipes, etc.
Keep up the good work!

Female 39 and male 36, married. We live with two small dogs and three ponies in an old farmhouse near lake Constance; Switzerland.
Currently reading archives almost every day. Pointing out things to Christoph along the way.
We like how you explain everything so clearly an use your own (super) photos to illustrate. I would like to see some plans (what goes where and is of what size) but I am probably somewhat oldfashioned :)
In my college days in London (1996) it was plans in ink on tracing paper…images from magazines, scissors and glue to create inspirational mood boards… pictures of furniture, fabric, tile and other samples collected from all over and stuck on huge sample boards. Then haul everything to the client…imagine…
Amazing how the computer has changed interior design!
Congratulations and the best of luck to you,
Miriam and Christoph
Please keep going, we wish you the best of luck!

4. I wish you would feature some products that you are lusting after in main posts. I seldom have time to check the sidebar, but I always love what you’ve found on your design dilemma mood boards. Similarly, notices or info about great shops online, like I found Z Gallerie through you guys.

4. I’d love to see maybe more breakdowns of how you go about finding stuff on the cheap. it would probably def differ from location to location, but general tips are great. Also what do you look for when out shopping. I usually have one thing i’m looking for and am not good at finding alternatives or seeing the potential in something else.
So continue more with your makeovers of found items and solutions to everyday problems!!

Also, you could talk more about how an item in a post could be used in several different ways. Such as if you are entertaining how you could transform a decorative piece into something functional.
5. Not that I can think of.
6. Your blog is one of the very few non-wedding related blogs I read.

I have a similar unexplainable love to buy all things white and ceramic.

2.) Once a day or more.
3. & 4.) I would have a hard time saying what I like to read on your blog. So much of what you do, and say I just think it fits into my life so well. I love your DIY, the travel posts you do and so many more things you have done in the past. The Before & Afters are great.
I am a dog lover (love Burger), art lover, crafter, (Go Sherry!) home sewer, writer, photographer, but I really have a passion for decorating anything. I have even decorated a room at my church for the Brides who need a pretty room to put on their gowns. We used items we got from our own thrift shop located on the church grounds and we had to paint them or add fabric to them.
I think YOUNG, I am not old-I don’t think, so your blog title/name was really speaking to me. I would like to know how to get my own blog and have been reading books about it.
Love your wedding, the proposal, too!
I loved it when you cleaned out your garage, I plan to re-paint mine soon.
What do you do for fun?
That would be fun to know what your social life is like.
And maybe share your dreams with us, that always gets people to sit up and take notice! You have done such an amazing job with your home. I love the piece of property it sits on, too.
Please know that you have one of my favorite blogs.
Love the house crashing, you guys rock!
Thanks for all the new ideas you have given me.

I love making improvements, but reach a limit to how much I am willing to put in (both time and money) to a place I don’t own. Loved the post on John’s sister’s new place (her building is very close to me).
5. Sherry- Do you ever feel trapped in the house all day without a car? I think I might go a little stir-crazy.
