…let’s talk about you. During last year’s blogiversary extravaganza we polled our lovely readers to learn more about who they really are, and we thought that the beginning of year three marked the perfect time to do that again. So who the heck are you? And how you think we can amp up Young House Love in the coming year?
If ever there was a time to comment, it’s now. Please – no, pretty please – take two minutes to answer the questions below. And if you’ve never commented before or are unsure how, it’s easy. Just click the number in that green speech bubble to the right of this post’s title and scroll to the bottom of the page. Oh and real names and e-mail addresses aren’t required (feel free to make up something entertaining) so the pressure is off.
In a few days we’ll be back with a little summary of your comments (you know we like to read each and every one) so we can begin to formulate a bona fide plan to pimp Young House Love even more in year three. So without further ado, here’s what we’re dying to know:
- Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
- How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
- What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
- What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
- Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
- Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)
Thanks in advance for your input! We really value your thoughts, comments and suggestions. After all, if it hadn’t been for last year’s poll we wouldn’t have known you guys wanted giveaways… which means no one would be winning $500 from Lowe’s this Friday!

I am a female, 23, living in Houston with an Italian Greyhound and a room mate, I’m single. I read your blog when it comes up on my google reader–I usually go in order from top to bottom and the blogs are in alphabetical order (there are 40 posts I need to read today). I love when ya’ll take reader’s design dilemmas and give them a list of what to buy, where to get everything, and the prices. I want to send in a design dilemma but I have not gotten around to it. I want to see modern moroccan inspiration (b/c that is my current obsession) + your style.
This is random but I always like to see cute pet houses because there are so few out there. I need to buy a cute rabbit hutch for my ranch house, I don’t think they exist! I also need to find a way to protect them from predators (before I buy any rabbits) while I am away in the city–coyotes, wild boar (do they like to eat bunnies? I don’t know but they are scary), and whatever other things lurk in the dark.

5. I’d love to see what Sherry’s day-to-day schedule is like and how she balances her work with all of her projects and the rest of her life. I started an online business after I lost my day job earlier this year, thinking I’d have all kinds of free time to spend on craft projects, but the business keeps me so busy that I barely find time to clean my house, let alone make it pretty. How does Sherry do it?

Hi there! I am a 26 yr. old Richmond gal, married for three and a half years to an amazing DIY guy. We also have the best dog in the world named Banjo. We just bought our first house almost 2 years ago and it was about that time that I heard about yalls blog from a friend and since then I have been a twice daily reader (am and pm posts please). Once I started reading yalls blog I realized our houses had similar style (so I knew I was cool!). I absolutely love the house crashing posts, since I live here in Richmond and I love the creative houses here. I wish you all had a chance to go visit the Lewis House on Monument. It is head to toe full of art (everything from chairs to the floor). But I don’t know if there are public tours (got in with VCU Art school). One more thing – I was at a wedding the other weekend at the Boathouse, gone home to change between the reception and the party – my friend who stayed told me she saw yall walking up the stairs to have dinner! It was kindof crazy.

I check in to read your site daily, and especially love the DIY ideas, and the Before and After pictures. I recently moved into a new home and used many of your ideas when decorating. Putting a lampshade on the ceiling fan is one of my favorites! I really appreciated your post on your favorite paint colors. I have it on file, and have helped others choose a great shade of green, yellow, etc. Being a working mom, I love great organizational ideas, and would love more posts on great ways to keep the home well organized!

3. I LOVE before and after pictures (large or small projects) and DIY stuff. It gets me thinking about what I could do, and they’re usually blessedly cheaper.
4. I rent a (very very) old home that has some interesting problems I’ve had to overcome–slightly slanted floors and windows from the house settling, non standard sized doors and windows, etc. It’s meant that we’ve had to learn to make a lot more of what we need rather than just going out and getting, for example, a set of curtains or curtain rods. Any more help with making things from scratch would be great!
5. Not that I can think of!
6. I’ve found that most of what you guys write about turns out to just be good, solid information–even if I can’t use it right away in my home, I have it for the future. I really appreciate that there aren’t any projects that just make more STUFF for the house, but rather useful items or worthwhile projects to streamline my day. I have too much “stuff” already!

We have no kids, but we have 2 furry ones…a big black cat named Mr. Face, and a puggle puppy named Piper, who just happens to be the cutest thing ever!
2. How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?) I check your blog every. single. day. I love it so much! You guys are the reason I started my blog. I was itching to do it before, but I felt like it would be difficult, but you make everything look easy!
3. What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?) I love all your posts, but my personal favorite would have to be your before & after posts of projects you have done. You guys have a lot of class and taste, and it really comes through in your projects.
4. What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?) I say make another blogging friend…I suggest someone named Robin in Atlanta! But seriously, I’d love it if you would keep doing what you’re doing. I love everything you guys do. It would be kinda fun to see you help plan someone’s wedding, though…that would be really neat!
5. Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently? I think it would be cool to know what kind of music you can’t get enough of on a certain week, or what clothes Sherry loves, etc. It might be kinda getting off topic, though…but I love that kinda stuff. Plus, I feel like we’re friends already, you just don’t know me very well yet :)
6. Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!) I have started my own blog after being inspired by you, John & Sherry. It’s over at http://www.loveinsideandout.com. While it’s no Young House Love just yet, I’m having a great time with it, and that’s all that really counts.
p.s.- I love your theme weeks, like wedding week, etc. I think it could be neat to do them more often. Maybe one theme week a month? You could have saved all the nursery remodel posts for one week and hit us with them all at once for a baby week!
p.p.s.-I just want to say one more time, that I’m really glad you’re here and blogging! I love reading your stuff, and I am always inspired by you. Keep up the great work!

How often do you read Young House Love? For the past month+ it’s been daily. In the past it was as I had time and I would jsut catch up with the post I missed since my last time on the blog.
What are your favorite types of posts & why? Before & after and Easy DIY.
What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? more DIY projects – perhaps even tackling a bigger DIY project that you might have left to the professionals in the past.
Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently? Whatever you feel comfortable sharing!

1. Who are you? 25, female, Japan, co-habiting, no kids or pets
2. How often do you read Young House Love? whenever a new post pops into my reader!
3. What are your favorite types of posts & why? Easy DIY ideas, Before & after pictures, Major home improvement undertakings and videos. I love it all!
4. What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? I’m sorry to say this, but on the design dilemmas (which I love), please stop using the phrase “primed for a major makeover”!
5. Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently? Um, not really – I think the mix is good now. Maybe more renter/budget fixes. Organisation in a TINY space. Oh, and photos of design dilemmas!! It’s so frustrating to see the mood board and the before pic but no after!
6. Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? Not really. I’m living abroad in rented accommodation so not only can I not redecorate/renovate, I can’t buy furniture etc because it would be cost prohibitive to send it back to Europe (where I ususally live when not teaching English in Japan). I live vicariously through you! Keep up the good work!

2. I’ve been slacking in this department, but come and check it out as often as I can.
3. Favorites? That’s easy! Before & After posts. Lets me know there’s still hope for my late 1800’s home.
4. Hmm, maybe … more landscaping ideas? Or perhaps more giveaways?! hehe (I want to win … just once!)
5. Just your life in general. I love learning more about people, especially married couples.
6. Your site offers an abundance of inspiration! Can’t wait to start my own projects! :)

2. I read your post every single day. I can honestly say I have no vices… except your blog. I can’t do without it.
3. I love easy inexpensive ways to decorate or repurpose things. It’s something I grew up around and has become an interest of mine.
4. Don’t have any advice. You guys are doing a fantastic job!
5. I’m interested in how you guys stay thin. Do you work out(if you ever have time) eat well or are you just blessed by svelt figures?
6. As a fellow 20-something first time homeowner, you guys inspire me to do more projects. My husband probably doesn’t appreciate it very much though. :)

I’m a 25 year old senorita. I live in Florida with my husband. We don’t have any kids, yet, but do have 1 fish. He’s a beta and his name is Fish – creative I know.
I check YHL almost everyday, it’s part of my morning routine when I get to work (thanks for spicing it up!)
I really enjoy the before/after pictures of DIY projects. We live on a tight budget so I love finding ways to add or change things to our place.
I don’t really have any advice, you guys are obviously doing a great job! More chances for a $500 Lowe’s gift card… haha
I’m super excited that we are about to start posting a lot of our own Before/After pictures with our 1st home purchase. Thanks for the How-To’s/Videos, I have a feeling I will bee referring to them often! If you are ever taking one of your breaks on that 5-steps away couch, look us up: http://www.theringls.com
Thanks Youngsters!!

Hello, I’m a pretty frequent reader. A few times per week I would say. I’m married, 27 years old, have one child and no pets. My favorite posts are budget-friendly tips, environmentally-friendly tips and before and afters, especially when the before is particularly horrid. Overall, I think your blog is fantastic and you have enough new content to keep us readers coming back for more!
