…let’s talk about you. During last year’s blogiversary extravaganza we polled our lovely readers to learn more about who they really are, and we thought that the beginning of year three marked the perfect time to do that again. So who the heck are you? And how you think we can amp up Young House Love in the coming year?
If ever there was a time to comment, it’s now. Please – no, pretty please – take two minutes to answer the questions below. And if you’ve never commented before or are unsure how, it’s easy. Just click the number in that green speech bubble to the right of this post’s title and scroll to the bottom of the page. Oh and real names and e-mail addresses aren’t required (feel free to make up something entertaining) so the pressure is off.
In a few days we’ll be back with a little summary of your comments (you know we like to read each and every one) so we can begin to formulate a bona fide plan to pimp Young House Love even more in year three. So without further ado, here’s what we’re dying to know:
- Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
- How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
- What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
- What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
- Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
- Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)
Thanks in advance for your input! We really value your thoughts, comments and suggestions. After all, if it hadn’t been for last year’s poll we wouldn’t have known you guys wanted giveaways… which means no one would be winning $500 from Lowe’s this Friday!

I can’t remember how I stumbles across your blog… it seems like it was ages ago. I was excited when I found out you guys are in RIC (I grew up in the West End and live in NC but go back all the time.)
I enjoy Before & Afters and easy DIYs. I esp. like Organization topics!

HI Y’ALL!!! WE LOVE YOUR BLOG and ALL YOUR IDEAS.
We are Nate and Katie Burt from Louisville, KY. Newylweds since May 30th. We are LOVING married life! No kids yet, but maybe soon.I (Katie) catch up on your blog daily when I get a chance and have been spreading the word to all of our friends who are purchasing homes. We have not “officially” started any upgrades to our home- we are trying to get our ducks in a row on what project we want to tackle first…plus figure out how we will “financially support” these undertakings, any suggestions? (hint, hint..that $500 winning would be AWESOME way to start and get ourselves in gear! :) HA!)
IMPORTANT QUESTION– where did you get the three shelves that are in your dining nook? LOVE THEM and something like this would look great in our eat in kitchen.
We love the Easy DIY projects- they are fun things that we can do together- but also they spark our creativity and get us thinking about other small things we can do, for example-
the fire pit! We also would love to know more about how to make every inch of our home more functional since we also live in a smaller, older home.
We do have a blog of our little life- check it out :)
YoungHouseLove says
Hey Katie,
Those shelves are from Ikea. Cheap and easy to install with metal anchors! You can find out where we got almost everything in our house by clicking the House Tour tab under the header and then clicking the Roon By Room Source List link at the top of that page. Here’s the shortcut link for ya: https://www.younghouselove.com/photo-gallery-2/room-by-room-source-list/

Favorite posts are before and afters – especially from your mood boards, also posts on green living – favs are your product lists, composting, and rain barrel, also really liked creative ways to reuse what you have – the ways to set the table w/ Katie Bower was so helpful to think about different ways to use same items
Videos are ok but I hardly ever watch them since take longer than reading a post, would love to hear a post on how you manage your time working from home as I also work from home
I love how you have indexed the posts by topic, but resource lists for different things would be great too, handier than having to search since sometimes the titles are confusing
Thanks for asking, keep doing what you do!! : )

I read your blog daily.
I loooove DIY posts and seeing someone take the mood board you give them and show us after pics (although those are few and far between…people need to send those in).
What about adding more landscaping tips in year #3…or gardening/landscaping videos? We’re trying to tackle that this year and it’s a scary undertaking. What about some DIY sewing tips (do you ever sew pillows, or anything…could be cool DIY projects that save $. I’m about to tackle reupholstering a chair I found on the side of the road. I’ll have to send you before and after pics. I have no idea what I’m doing but my mom’s in town and she used to be an interior decorator. Hmmm…also, maybe John could posts more things guy-related. Female, 22, Boston, Single (but rings have been looked at!), No kids, I like to spoil my parent’s dog :)
I read YHL several times a day (I’m obsessive with my google reader)
I LOVE the DIY posts. I also loved your organization series and when you recommend products that have worked for you.
That’s all! I love everything you do!

Hi, guys! :)
1)Jacci, age 33 (almost 34), married for 9.5 years to Sam (we met in junior high), living in Ohio, no pets, four wonderful (really) children – ages 8.5, 7, almost 5, and 2.5! No pets. Our toad died.
2)I usually read YHL around 2x week, but if I have something else that I’m doing that requires time online (like this week), I hop over to see if y’all have posted when I get a few minutes. You usually have something new up ;) I try not to get onlie while all of my children are awake and roaming, lol. Right now 3 are resting/napping and my oldest is sewing (we homeschool and afternoon lessons are next).
3)Hmmm… I guess “project” type posts that give inexpensive ideas for DIY style – and also more educational posts like Sherry’s post about using texture or mixing prints. Design broken down Teach us principles :)
4)Basically the same answer as #3. I’d like to see some of your projects in real-time stages, too. I know it’s fun to wait until you have an impressive reveal, but it’s *very* helpful for readers to know that larger projects take a little time, and things happen gradually – not overnight.
5) Funny question – maybe more comfortably answered in email (?). Do you all go to church anywhere? Regularly? Sherry has said things like “God willing” and sometimes I just wonder if you all know the Lord.
6) I’d like to know if you think it’s strange to have all granite countertops in a small galley kitchen EXCEPT for one length of countertop that is butcher block instead (?). Have you seen Anne Turner Carroll’s kitchen? Google it! I’m debating something like that for our countertops, but that’s pretty daring in my book :)

You really are welcome to crash here anytime you’re rolling through the Heart of it All :)

1. Female, 29, Chicago, Engaged, no kids, 2 cats
2. How often do you read Young House Love? Twice daily so long as google reader tells me you’ve posted twice.
3. Easy DIY ideas, Before & after pictures, Major home improvement undertakings, Design Dilemmas but much more so if there is a solved.
4. I think your blog is wonderful as it s but since you asked, if I had my way there would be: more step-by-step, this is how we did it, with pictures illustrating steps. More pictures in the reader redesign showing us some details or steps on how they did things, etc. I like the posts where we learn something the best. Less contests… I read your blog because i love the content, not because i want to win a prize. I’m always bummed when a prize post takes the spot of something that might be more fun or informative!
5. I couldn’t think of anything for this so I looked through the other comments and I love what :::Lyzz::: said about showing the space in use while you are entertaining. I would love that!
6. Well, i’m currently documenting the day-by-day of my kitchen renovation and I know that I would love to see other blogs of people doing the same. If anyone is interested in seeing mine, it’s right here:

I’m Caron, I’m female, I’m 30, I live in Florida, I’m single, no kids, no pets.
I read Young House Love daily usually, whenever I have free time at work ;-)
My favorite types of posts are the ‘Easy DIY ideas’ and the ‘Before & After’s’
I’d love to see more stuff like what you find at Ikea or out and about and more about your life in general.
I can’t even remember how I found you but I was intrigued not only because you’re savvy do-it-yourselfers but also because you live in Richmond and being a Virginian transplanted in Florida I get super excited with all things Virgina. GO SKINS!
My blog is http://www.atincupchalice.com and I don’t have fun do-it-yourself stuff like y’all … but I’m completely random in my postings. Lots of music and stuff I’m hooked on and fun articles and info I come across. Check it out!

I’m a happily married female reader who is living in (and remodeling) a 100 year old farmhouse in western North Carolina. Our teenage son, dog and 2 cats are enduring this adventure (?) along with us. Our kitchen has been shut down for 2 weeks as we raise the ceiling in that room. So I’m starting to appreciate that your kitchen was inoperable for 13 weeks! I’ve read every word of your blog and often refer to previous posts for resource and DIY information. Design Dilemmas and Reader Redesigns are my favorite posts. I really appreciate how thoroughly the two of you have documented all the improvements you’ve made to almost every square inch of your home.
Keep up the good work. YHL just keeps getting better and better.

Female, 26, Kansas, Married, two boys (ages 3, 1), one goldendoodle named Penelope
How often do you read Young House Love?
I try to check the blog every day, but at least several times a week.
What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
My favorite posts are easy DIY, videos and simple, green living ideas. Also love tips on organization!
What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3?
You are doing such a great job! I love the easy DIY tips and have done many of them myself. I have began transforming my house thanks to you guys.
Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
I always think it’s interesting to hear how other people’s households are ran. Often times others have a way of stream-lining mundane activities that make my life easier! For example, love the cleaning blogs, but activities like bill paying, cooking, just general house maintenance!
