…let’s talk about you. During last year’s blogiversary extravaganza we polled our lovely readers to learn more about who they really are, and we thought that the beginning of year three marked the perfect time to do that again. So who the heck are you? And how you think we can amp up Young House Love in the coming year?
If ever there was a time to comment, it’s now. Please – no, pretty please – take two minutes to answer the questions below. And if you’ve never commented before or are unsure how, it’s easy. Just click the number in that green speech bubble to the right of this post’s title and scroll to the bottom of the page. Oh and real names and e-mail addresses aren’t required (feel free to make up something entertaining) so the pressure is off.
In a few days we’ll be back with a little summary of your comments (you know we like to read each and every one) so we can begin to formulate a bona fide plan to pimp Young House Love even more in year three. So without further ado, here’s what we’re dying to know:
- Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
- How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
- What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
- What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
- Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
- Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)
Thanks in advance for your input! We really value your thoughts, comments and suggestions. After all, if it hadn’t been for last year’s poll we wouldn’t have known you guys wanted giveaways… which means no one would be winning $500 from Lowe’s this Friday!

1. Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets? I’m a 48 year old woman living in Miami with my husband of 19 years and our 3 teenagers. We have 23 cats (people keep dumping pets due to the economy, and we keep taking them) and the world’s most patient pittbull. We still live in the 80 year old house we bought right after the wedding
2. How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)Pretty much daily
3. What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)Yeah, those. And thank you for turning me on to other sites as well
4. What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)I’m enjoying almost everything you do, and hey, it’s your site.
5. Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
6. Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)I do have a blog, but it’s not quite ready to plug on a site like yours

4. I would like to see the afters of the rooms that you do storyboards for, or am I missing those?
5. Enough about you already. Just kidding. ;)
6.Shameful, but here it is! http://nutsfornutrition.net Yummy, healthy (most of the time) recipes!

I am 25 and hubby is 27, been married for 5 months! Came across YHL while searching for home improvement webbies on Australian websites (I think it was Real Living Mag?).
I check YHL around 3 times a week and nearly always read all the back posting. It’s actually what I look forward to after a hard few days of work!
Fav posts include before/after pictures and design ideas.
I know you are based in America but a few posts on where to grab home designs stuff in Australia will be soooo appreciated!
I love love love cooking hence my blog http://www.theduckquacking.blogspot.com (More Than Words). Can’t wait for our new kitchen to be install in (flat pak of course!). I’m 35, single, no kids, no pets, living in the Hoosier state. I read your blog daily and enjoy the before & after photos and your mood board breakdowns! Where do you think your inner creative self came from? Which magazines or catalogs (home or otherwise) you receive in the mail which you can’t live without and have found inspiration thumbing through its pages? A Crate catalog is always a great read. My brother (the creative one) has a great blog: http://www.popservations.com for everything pop culture past and present.

27 year old Texas Gal – living in Austin with my amazing boyfriend and 2 dogs.
I normally check daily for postings – and I love the DIY projects (especially art of my walls) plus holiday decor ideas. The B&A’s you post and the reader redesigns are also a great way to get some ideas for future projects. My absolute favorite thing to do is stalk your comments for new blogs to read though – I’ve found a couple great ones.
Maybe every couple of weeks you could feature one of your favorite readers blogs? Or a new site you’ve found that just makes ya happy.
We’re stuck in an apartment for now, but soon hope to have our own house. I post a bunch of the small changes we do now on my blog. http://www.sweetsimplebliss.com

Hi, I’m Kara and I’m 29 years old. I live in Richmond, VA (holla!). My boyfriend is my “unofficial” roommate.:) We have a Boxer named Eggy…Eggy is the Korean word for “baby” and my boyfriend is Korean….hence the Asian dog name.;) We also have a cat named Boston (after the marathon).
I’m a teacher who barely has time to sit down at work, so I always look forward to coming home and getting inspired by your blog. As a new home owner, I definitely enjoy using your blog as my own personal motivator.:)
I thoroughly enjoy all of your posts and ideas. The only other thing I’d love to have you talk about is how to successfully and less painfully remove wallpaper. My house has 51 years worth and the removal of it is driving us insane. It’s so discouraging and frustrating! I’d love it if you could share some DIY tips on this!
Elizabeth says
I’m Elizabeth, 25, Irvine, CA. I live with my fiance in an apartment. No kids, but we have a cat. I read YHL at least once a week and always scroll through all the posts I missed so I’m caught up.
I really love posts with the colors I like, and often jot down paint colors I love into my journal so later on when we have a house I can pull that out for reference.
I also really love the video posts that show how to make a beautiful table setting. I think those types of videos would be cool for other areas, like decorating a kitchen, or a “how to” hang pictures on the walls, or a “how to” rearrange furniture in a room. But what you guys are doing now is great! I like the videos and your design boards because I’m a visual person and I like to see how something is put together.
Thanks for all you guys do! I love your site!
Best,
Elizabeth

6. Hmmm. You guys should get your own show!

I’m a 32 year old female, living in Hong Kong, married, 1 daughter, 2 dogs.
I read your blog daily.
Favorite types of posts are before and afters and DIY ideas – I like to see what people are doing in the “real world” rather than just reading about professionally styled homes in magainzes.
I think it would be nice to see before and after shots in the “design dilemma” section rather than just the before shots.

I read Young House Love almost every day, especially at work when I’m bored, as a reward for completing a project.
I love everything you guys do! I especially like your green ideas, before & afters, and organizing ideas.
I would suggest more DIY projects, espeially cheap ways to make your house even better. I love everything you guys do – keep it up!

Hey, I’m Liz. I’m a 36-year-old-do-it-yourselfer married to a man with mad renovating skills. (We’ve knocked out three walls and gutted the kitchen down to the subfloor in the last year!) We don’t have kids yet, so all our love goes into our house. It’s a ranch, our first, that we bought two years ago. Most of the time I read your blog daily. I’d love to see more major home improvement stuff, before and after pics and maybe places you go to get inspired. I don’t think I have any major advice. I check your site for ways to get motivated/encouraged about my own house. So more of that, please!

I read Young House Love every day via Google Reader
I love pretty things so posts with photos for inspiration are my favourite but I love DIYs as well
I haven’t been reading for that long – only 6 months and as I don’t do any blogging myself don’t feel qualified to give advice. But I do love that you have a few personal posts every now and then – like when you ate vegemite – loved it! I like blogs where I feel like I know the posters as well as enjoy what they’re writing about
Much love!

1. I’m a 29 year old female, I live in Nashville, TN. I
m married (4 years, no kids, 2 awesome dogs that run our lives!
2. I read YHL daily, I love it. I usually wait until I get home in the afternoon, it’s my reward after a long days work. I hate Saturday and Sunday when there aren’t usually posts (how sick is that to hate the weekend b/c you guys take a day off!)
3. I like them all. I really like the tutorials, like how to be a rug, paint cabinets, etc. I like the videos, the before and afters, the mood boards. I know one comment said they didn’t like the mood boards, but I love them and you guys find combinations I wouldn’t see just looking at Pottery Barn and Ikea on my own!
4. I really liked the idea about a design dilemma raffle or more house crashing. Maybe even people who have it almost right but just want finishing touch help and you could go shopping with them (to Ikea maybe) and get the “Just right touches” that you guys seem to do so well. And bonus, you could make it a video!
5. I’d love more Burger. And more outside stuff, like landscaping, the garage clean out. I also really like how you feature local stores and shops, even though I don’t live any where close to them. I thought it was weird that one person asked if you knew the Lord, I guess it doesn’t matter one way or another to me, but it was a weird comment.
6. My favorite part of the last video? “Bleepity, bleep, bleep, bleeeeep!”

1. Jen, Married, 36, Midwest, 2 Girls, 2 Dogs
2. Seriously? Some people don’t read this once daily? I really try to only check the blog four or five times a day. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don’t :)
3. Before and afters because they inspire me to see that dramatic change can be achieved. They always spark new ideas in me. Easy DIYs, love love love a good DIY, even if it’s only to pass on to someone else. Videos for pure entertainment, to put a voice with the words, to learn better-I’m a see, hear, read learner.
4. The videos with the other bloggers weren’t normal yhl awesomemness for me. LOVE the house drop-ins. I’m obsessed with mudroom lockers and would love to see a good yhl post on these.
5. Makeovers for us poor Midwesterners that really do love our wood cabinets and wood trim. Can we incorporate that into a more modern look? Or is getting out the sandpaper and paint the only way to truly get a good update?
6. Happy Blogiversary–you guys truly do a great job and you can tell all of the heart and soul that goes into it. Thanks for the daily entertainment and education.

5. No advice here, you guys already open up so much about your lives on YHL – you should have some privacy, right? :)
6. I heart YHL – I just discovered you guys a couple of months ago and have been reading the archives! I have big plans for our house and love reading/seeing everything you guys post – great inspiration! Keep on keepin’ on with the blog!

But honestly you guys are awesome already!!!

I am a 25 year old mother to a 2.5 year old toddler and a 10 year old cat. I come to YHL as often as I go to my own blog, or whenever I am reminded. It’s not always that often since I’m a full time student, but it’s usually once a week. I love the green posts and the DIY. I have been trying to be greener and save money and I’m doing it one step at a time.

Hello! I’m Jess. I’m 26, a lady, married, and living in Greenville, SC. My husband Nick and I have 3 cats and four guinea pigs. I read YHL EVERY DAY. Seriously. I usually read the newest post and then troll through the older posts for some eye candy. I’m a teacher, so I can’t check the site while I’m at work, but it’s one of the first I hit when I get home!
My favorite types of posts are when you show before and afters of your house and readers’ houses. And I love seeing cute pics of Burger, too!
I really don’t know how you could possibly make YHL better than it already is…ummm…more before-and-afters?
I do have a blog–it’s http://www.hawleywoodtales.blogspot.com, and I also have two Etsy shops: http://www.hawleywood.etsy.com and http://www.tinoiseau.etsy.com.

Who are you? I am Kelly. 27 years old. Graphic Designer. Live in Vegas. Have 2 dogs and a baby on the way. Celebrating our one year wedding anniversary next month. Have been a home owner for 3 years.
How often do you read Young House Love? Every day. I try to read it at work but if I don’t have time, I read it at home.
What are your favorite types of posts & why? Videos because they are so funny. Anything about being green or organic because I am slowly making those changes in my life. Giveaways because you always have unique items.
What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? More of your before and after makeovers/remodels. Tips for keeping your house clean and organized.
Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently? I enjoy to travel and don’t get to the east coast very often. Would like to hear more about your trips/vacations.
Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? I really enjoying reading your blog because your posts are not too long. I have read a few other blogs that are just soooo long and lose my attention. I also think that you have the perfect job! I wish I could work from home. Also your background in advertising/art and writing/communication helps with your blog. You understand what people want.

G’Day! Ann-Marie here, Aussie, 27yrs old, Female, Newcastle(2 hours north of Sydney), Australia.
In long-term relationship with my boyfriend. No kids or engagement as yet. Its just us and our adorable British bulldog Ramsay. We have just this week bought our first house together! We move in at the end of October and can not wait to start our projects with the help of YHL!
I read YHL daily on my lunch break at work – its my escape into DIY wonderland before I get back to the daily grind!
My favourite types of posts are the Easy DIY ideas with before & after pictures. I’m a very visual person and a picture really tells a thousand words. Also being a first home owner anything we can do ourselves cheaply and beautifully would really help us out. I also get a lot out of the “how to” section – I have printed a lot of these posts out and filed them in my “Home Projects” folder ready for when we move in to our new home.
I think one of the things I would like to see more of in yr 3 of YHL is something I get a kick of and that is replicating an expensive, fashionable piece of furniture, or maybe even the whole theme of a room but to recreate that look or piece of furniture cheaply. This could be by making furniture or homewares from scratch, livening up old furniture/appliances etc to recreate a look we would see in a Vogue magazine. Sort of like a copy cat guide for those with expensive tastes and small budgets. I hope that makes sense.
I’m always open to more design advice and seeing more photos and examples of how to mix and match furniture/homewares/antiques/modern items/colour schemes to create a certain theme/look. The more photos the better I say!
In closing I’d like to say I think you guys rock! I love your enthusiasm, handy hints, fresh ideas delivered in a fun and quirky way! Keep up the great work :)

2. All the time!!! Basically daily. But I’ve been going through all of the past posts recently to find out how you did everything. You guys are such inspirations!
3. I like everything! Your DIY posts have got me into doing my own DIY at home (stay tuned for my new ensuite), your before and after pictures keep me swooning, your home improvements make me long to grab a hammer straight away, and your efforts to keep green have made me think of how I live my daily life! Honestly, the only thing I don’t like are these competitions (I live to far away!) and your constant mentioning of ZGallery. Not that I’m sick of the mentioning, it’s just that they don’t ship internationally and I can’t find anything similar here!! So jealous!!!
4. I think that you’re on a roll already, so why stop a good thing? I like to hear of your home improvements and laugh at your silly pictures. Maybe some more improvements going on around you? You could perhaps expand your website into helping people in the neighbourhood with their DIYs? That would make a great feature every so often, and I’m sure the neighbours would appreciate!
5. Your lives are your lives, not mine! I like hearing some fun stories, but it’s all up to you as to what you reveal!
6. I have a blog, but the standard is so not up to yours! I’ll be working my little butt off with my improvements and hopefully one day I’ll make you guys jealous!
Lots of love from Oz,

3. So far my favorite’s the wedding post, partly because it’s the only post I’ve read, and partly because I know Eric and I are getting married someday and a ton of my friends and relatives have gotten/are getting married so I’m constantly tucking ideas away. (I’m the kind of girl who’s had my dress picked out for the last ten years…)
4. I got nothing. I haven’t read much of the blog yet.

How often do you read Young House Love?
Daily! I use Google reader so I read it everyday when I check my email.
What are your favorite types of posts & why?
My favorite types of posts are the videos (its fun seeing you two interact with each other), the before & after pictures (always inspiring), and the mood boards (I like seeing what you pick and how you put them together. Plus, its introduced me to a lot of good online retailers).
What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3?
I really liked the posts where you decorate a room on a $200 budget. Some mood boards where you take a room and totally revamp it using only $200 would be fun.
Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
No.
Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world?
You guys are so inspiring. Thanks for motivating me to get off my butt and do some home improvement!

1) Michelle (female) living in GR Michigan. I’m 27, married with three kids ( ages 7, 5.5, &4) and 2 cats.
2) I found YHL a couple of weeks ago and read you on a daily basis in my google reader. I also have spent many a night going thru your site being inspired by your tuts and before and afters (and showing my husband, “..SEE, they did it and it looks SO EASY! We could do that”)
3) My favorite posts have to be found in the ‘how to’ section. I’m always looking for ways to change things around my house on the cheap without having to hire someone( I’m not really in love with the 1980’s look as the previous owners here were). Also LOVE the before and afters.
4) I don’t think there is anything to change, but you guys are so creative I’m sure you’ll come up with something to make it even better.
5) nope.
6) Your blog makes me feel happy. Thanks for all your hard work.

6. Do you guys get headaches from spending so much time looking at the computer? :p

2.Read your blog once or twice a week.
3.Totally love the before/after pics. Not really that keen on the rest as the competitions don’t apply to me; and the list of items to buy are usually not available here.
4.No idea at the moment. Maybe vary the themes/styles of re-do’s.
5.Nah… though it’s interesting to hear some of the ins/outs of how things happen in your land. Eg council allowances, use of fences in homes, etc.
6.hahaha… nah, nothing much!

How often do you read Young House Love? daily
I love before & after pictures. We just bought an older home 2 months ago and we are renovating it. I used your “how to paint a brick fireplace” tutorial to paint ours!

6.You guys have an awesome blog. I love that you guys seem so down to earth about things and positive. I hope ya’ll don’t widdle away into posting obscurity like so many house blogs tend to go. Keep it up!

I like the super small budget makeovers & photos because that’s what my husband and I are most interested in with our own house.
Advice? Agree with Natalie — more reader redesigns! Especially those people with small budgets, as mentioned above.

3. Love, love, love the before & afters. The transformations are amazing and it’s inspiring to see what you’ve done to your home! The redos for others are always great too. Also loooove the house crashing pics because we get an inside peek at others’ great homes!
4. See above :) Not super into the DIY ideas because I’m not at ALL crafty and would rather buy something than try to figure out what I need to get to make it. Lowe’s and Home Depot are not frequent shopping destinations for us. :) Would love more links to the great items and home accessories you guys find online! Love the videos btw.
5. This is actually pretty balanced as is!
6. Love this blog and show it to my husband often!
