…let’s talk about you. During last year’s blogiversary extravaganza we polled our lovely readers to learn more about who they really are, and we thought that the beginning of year three marked the perfect time to do that again. So who the heck are you? And how you think we can amp up Young House Love in the coming year?
If ever there was a time to comment, it’s now. Please – no, pretty please – take two minutes to answer the questions below. And if you’ve never commented before or are unsure how, it’s easy. Just click the number in that green speech bubble to the right of this post’s title and scroll to the bottom of the page. Oh and real names and e-mail addresses aren’t required (feel free to make up something entertaining) so the pressure is off.
In a few days we’ll be back with a little summary of your comments (you know we like to read each and every one) so we can begin to formulate a bona fide plan to pimp Young House Love even more in year three. So without further ado, here’s what we’re dying to know:
- Who are you? Male/Female? Age? Location? Marital status? Any kids? Pets?
- How often do you read Young House Love? (Daily? Once a week? Whenever you have free time at work?)
- What are your favorite types of posts & why? (Easy DIY ideas? Before & after pictures? Design Dilemmas? Major home improvement undertakings? Videos? Something else?)
- What advice do you have for us to make YHL even better in year #3? (More of something in particular? Less of something else?)
- Is there a topic or other area of our lives you’d like us to talk about more frequently?
- Anything else you want us to know, or just gotta share with the world? (If you have a blog of your own, feel free to plug it here!)
Thanks in advance for your input! We really value your thoughts, comments and suggestions. After all, if it hadn’t been for last year’s poll we wouldn’t have known you guys wanted giveaways… which means no one would be winning $500 from Lowe’s this Friday!

I kind of wish that you wouldn’t post Reader Redesigns until you have after pictures. It’s hard to keep up and see the whole picture at once when you do them in two different segments, along with your other stuff.
I’m a female, age 25, and i read several times/wk.

5.I know you guys must love decorating/renovating/DIY, but there has to be some part of it that you absolutely hate. What are your least favorite things to take on?

Pretty much daily.
My favorite are the design dilemma’s – I love to see how you take a real room and recommend simple changes to make it look great. I love seeing how you pull different things together to achieve a coordinated look. It helps me think about my own rooms. I also like the easy DIY ideas, before and afters, major home improvement undertakings – anything home or design related.
I think one more design dilemma a week would be great – but I realize they take a lot of time.
One idea that might be faster/easier for you is to pick a color and a room (say green/dining room) and then pull a bunch of items you’ve seen that fit that category. For example, if you did “aqua/kitchen”, I could use all the great finds to redo my own kitchen with some fun new accessories. It is kind of what similar to the design dilemmas in terms of what I like about them, but it might be faster and easier for you to put a post together (bc you don’t have to worry about furniture layout, solving major design issues, etc). It would just be links to great items you’ve seen in stores that would work in a room with that color scheme.

3. I love befores and afters. Organization tips. I really like what you’re doing already. ;o)
4. I have really liked the videos you have been doing lately. I think any video showing just how you’ve DIYed something is great. I guess I would like to know how you both work so well together. Do you have marriage advice for us? How do you plan meals? etc…

2. At least daily; if I’m not extremely busy at work I’ll keep checking in, looking for the next post!
3. I LOVE before and after pictures; I’m a big fan of reader redesigns too.
4. I would love to see more house crashing pictures! I think it’s so interesting and inspiring seeing where other (real) people live – it’s a lot different from the staged magazine photos. Which I still love, but house crashing is a refreshing change seeing how people’s homes are decorated / arranged and lived in on a daily basis.
5. Do you ever have anyone over to your house? I notice you go on trips to visit family and friends, but we never see pictues of parties in progess at Casa Petersik!!!
6. Just a suggestion; I’ve often wondored what it would be like for you to design a room in my home, but I’m not willing to part with $250 in this economy. Is there a possibility one of your giveaways could be a design dilemma? I know they are a lot of work so if you can’t swing it that’s totally understandable, it’s just a thought!
In conclusion: You guys do an awesome job and I’m thrilled I discovered you!!!

Female, 24, living in a shoebox sized apartment with my boyfriend, I just started reading your blog not too long ago and I love it– I agree with the first commenter– DIY projects for apartments would be great! I love your concept– also, I am sure you have posted about it before but how do execute the concepts in your minds? For instance I have great ideas in my head but in execution they don’t quite work– help!

2. you are in my blogroll and my reader, so pretty much whenever and whatever you post, i’m reading
3. I love before and afters, easy DIY ideas, giveaways, and your “going green” sort of posts. the inspiration boards are welcome because of the items you find, but i really only want to see what the person who uses your ideas does with them because i need instant gratification. the videos don’t really work for me but that’s only because my current internet connection isn’t the greatest. it is really neat to hear how your really speak and interact, though :O)
4. ummm… would it be too much to ask you to host more events at your house so that I can glean from your ideas??? purdy please? ha ha ha. after discovering you due to your wedding posts, i am a fan for life :O)
5. you seem to be doing pretty well when left to your own devices. :O)
6. i am so jealous of how close you live to millie’s diner in downtown richmond. my husband and I had some absolutely amazing meals there together about two years ago when we were on a roadtrip with our (then) two kids. now we’re all of the way across the country :O( shameless plug for my girly blog:
