We’d heard of the “slow food movement” before, but not the “slow clothes movement” – until this week’s giveaway sponsor reached out to us. Saffron Marigold creates luxury Indian linens, and they make each tablecloth, bedspread, curtain and pillow cover very meticulously (both to safeguard traditional techniques and deliver a high quality finished product). Just think, all of these patterns have been meticulously hand-printed inch-by-inch using traditional woodblock techniques in Saffron Marigold’s Indian artisan studios. Pretty fantastic, eh?
And this week TWO of you are going to have a chance to enjoy TWO pieces of these slowly and beautifully made linens in your home. Each winner will get their choice of a lovely tablecloth or table runner…
…and their choice of a gorgeous and graphic cushion cover.
And while you’re over on their site browsing their stunning designs, be sure to check out the photo slideshow of their time-intensive process which details how they create all the unbelievably intricate patterns. It will truly give you an appreciation for the craftsmanship that went into these prizes. And you’ll also soon get to appreciate a sweet discount they’re dishing out (stay tuned for those details on Thursday).
So here’s the gist:
- PRIZE: Your choice of any tablecloth or table runner from Saffron Marigold, plus one cushion cover.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “MARIGOLD ME!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us something that you feel is always better when you take your time. Maybe you agree with the slow food or slow clothes movement? Or you prefer to give lots of time to painting or a DIY project? Perhaps you’re just a slow and very careful driver?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, June 9nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the WORLD!
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

MARIGOLD ME!!
I like to take my time reading books. It used to be that I would fly through in my impatience to find out the ending, and miss plenty of details along the way. Now I try to savor each page, making the story much more interesting–and complete–by the time it’s done.

“MARIGOLD ME!” I like to slow down when I’m with my son. Too often we are rushing so when we play, I try to forget about other things and take 30 min to “cook” sand. :)
Val says
MARIGOLD ME! I like slowing down when I tuck in my kids at night. I try and spend longer 1 on 1 time talking with them at that time. Unfortunately, I’m often so tired by the end of the day, I rush through the tucking in part. (Something I need to work on!)

Preparing for marriage. While couples around us were running to the altar, we took things at a pace we believed would give us time to ask the hard questions, work through some answers, and learn to love each other not as the other deserved, but as we should.

I think eating is something you should do slowly. Most meals need a lot of time to be cooked and then are eaten in just 5-10 min. Thats so sad. Enjoying the food while eating it slow.

My marriage is always better when I slow down, take the time and make the time. Date night is critical to our happiness and the protection/ nourishment of our marriage. We rarely go out for it or spend much money on it, but we put our 3 kids to bed, cook a nice meal, open a bottle of wine and catch up. Without that foundation, everything else will crumble, so my marriage definitely deserves… slowing… down…

Let’s see…..when it comes to taking it slowly….I would have to say getting healthy! I’ve done those quick fix weight loss efforts many times, only to fail or regain quickly. Slow and steady wins the REAL race when it comes to getting in shape and losing weight. I managed to lose 35lbs last year and have kept it off for over a year now thanks to that mindset. :)

As a nursery school teacher I was always saddened by parents who rushed their children from one activity to the next. It was depressing to see parents schedule play dates at activity centers and museums rather than at their own homes. Children need the freedom to explore and create using their own imagination rather than having every minute of their day micro-managed. They should have an opportunity to dress-u[ and act out their feelings with their friends on their own terms rather than being led by an activity leader. I am an advocate of “Childhood in the calm lane” (maybe I should copyright that). I hesitated to use the word slow, because it has such a negative connotation when used in the same sentence as children.
Sorry this comment turned out to be so long, but as new parents I’m know you will be making lots of decisions for Clara. As children get older (even pre-school age) it becomes harder to resist the temptation to put them in situations that are really not developmentally appropriate for them. I will now step off my soap box.

I have always loved reading, so much that I tend to devour books as opposed to reading them. I find that if I force myself to slow down and read more slowly, I can savor a really good book instead of swallowing it whole! Which is especially great now that I have all my beach reading lined up for the summer :)

I think it is worthwhile to spend my time in the garden- both tending edibles and ornamentals- the time spent to produce excellent home grown food is worth the extra effort, as are flowers that make your day better just by passing by them.
