For our big two year blogiversary and we’re celebrating with one of the biggest freebies we’ve ever freebied: a $500 Lowe’s gift card.
Did that sink in yet? It still hasn’t for us. When we started hunting for the perfect blogiversary prize a few weeks ago we never thought we’d land something so exciting. It’s like Lowe’s is giving one of you the chance to take on a big project and they’re footing the bill. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to be giving it away.
We probably don’t need to remind you of all the items you could snag during a $500 shopping blitz at Lowe’s – paint, lighting, power tools, holiday decor, flooring. Heck, you could even get a new dishwasher or something. So in case you’re having any trouble picturing where you’d put five hundred Lowe’s dollars, allow us to lend our expertise (that is, our money-spending assistance). Here are a few items that we’ve got our eyes on:
This Idylis air purifier: Since the cold weather will have us closing up our windows and doors soon, the HEPA filter on this baby keeps indoor air from getting stale and could really help Sherry as we get into allergy season.
A new lawn mower: I know the season’s ending, but I’ve had it up to here (picture my hand above my head) with the used mower we bought when we moved back in 2006 (let’s just say it’s no longer self-propelling). Lowe’s online Mower Selector tool helped turn up a bunch of options that we could snag for well under 500 beans.
A cool bathroom sink: With a full bathroom redo moving closer to the top of our to-do list we’re already starting to fantasize about where we can add some special touches, like plopping a vessel sink on top of a thrifted piece of furniture-turned-vanity. And Lowe’s has a bunch of awesome vessel sink options.
I’ve also been contemplating adding some outdoor path lighting or taking our garage organization a step further with some more sophisticated shelving. But we’d better quit letting our minds wander because we’re not the ones who get the $500 gift card… one of you does! Here’s how:
- PRIZE: A $500 Lowe’s gift card (in case you forgot)
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GIMME THAT $500” (why dance around it, right?) and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us what project you might spend the prize on. Surely we’re not the only ones daydreaming about where $500 could go (and no, we won’t be picking a winner based on this answer – it’ll still be random)
- CONTEST CLOSES: Thursday, September 24th at 8pm EST (that’s an extra day!)
- WINNER: One lucky lady or gent
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the USA (but Lowe’s loving Canadians with friends or family in the states can enter and we’ll send it to your US relative/friend who can forward it on to you).
- THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I would add some serious curb appeal to the front of our house…new plants, a rock border for the flower beds, a new mailbox, etc.

We have a powder room makeover and a kitchen makeover on our to-do list, and this could go a long way in both. Thanks for the giveaway!

Gimme that $500!! :)
It would be really hard to narrow down……. but pretty sure we’d use it towards an on demand water heater for a little eco-friendly water heating and to save some space in our teeny house!!!
Meredith says
Gimme that $500. I would use it to buy a lawn mower and a blower for the yard.

GIMME THAT $500!
Love your blog! As a first-time homeowner myself, it’s been an inspiration, though I am not nearly as crafty as you two! As for what I’d do with such a windfall, I’ll second the new bathroom vanity idea. If there’s anything left over, I’d buy the hardware I need to wire a pendant lamp and a ceiling fan. Thanks and keep up the great work!

OMG! This would be awesome! I was hoping to surprise my hunny with a new mower, and this would really help! Ours is beyond it’s last legs, but we’re trying to make it last since we just had a major car repair. With this, I could get him his new mower guilt free!
I hope I win. I hope I win. I hope I win!

We bought a house 5 months ago and have so many things we would love to get from Lowes! The next major thing on our list is a landscaping overhaul for the front yard. I would love to get rid of those bushes that were planted when our house was built in 1954!

Gimme that $500! Just moved into my 1st apartment. Did a DIY makeover on my bedroom furniture by painting it. I didn’t realize how expensive drawer pulls are before I started though! So now I have black furniture I love- but it is just waiting for the finishing touch of hardware- $500 would definitely take care of it :)

GIMME THAT $500 – My husband has been wanting to paint the garage and do something with the flooring. This would definately be a jumping stone to turn our boring garage into a fablous man cave for him.

GIMME THAT $500
What a great prize and tho my Lowes list is (finally) getting shorter there is still one project I’m really excited about–adding French doors where there are currently only windows (my house was built without a back door–who builds a house without a back door, I ask you…). It’ll bring so much light into the kitchen and will give the dog the perfect indoor spot to watch the backyard squirrel shenanigans.

Gimme that $500!
What wouldn’t that help with? Painting the entryway/kitchen ceiling/upstairs/downstairs, updating a bathroom, staining the deck, decorating a nursery, I could go on! Now you’ve got me daydreaming about even more home improvement projects!
Jessica Riley says
GIMME THAT $500 and I know I would use it to replace 2 light fixtures in my home (from West Elm and CB2, already mentally picked out) and put in a bathroom fan in my overly-moist master bath.

I would love to use it towards a front-loading washer & dryer – our almost 18 month old creates a lot of laundry, and I hate to think of the amount of water we currently use on laundry day with our old washer.

GIMME THAT $500!
I have a list a mile long. Throw rug, paint, lighting, humidifier, dremel tool, mini indoor tree, flower pots, plants, finally get rid of the tacky vertical blinds or maybe a dishwasher that actually washes my dishes without me washing them first. Oh, (big splurge here) one of those child sized toilets to ease potty traing with my toddlers. ;)

I’d be spending that cash on some kitchen remodeling. I have dreams of adding a backsplash and and light to my tiny, windowless kitchen, along with painting the cabinets and updating the hardware. If I can manage to be super thrifty, I’d spend some of that on a new nursery, needed in the spring!
Congrats, and happy 2nd year!
