You guys may know of Ankasa’s collection of couture home furnishings which includes hand-embroidered pillows going for more than $300 a pop. But you may not know that one of our favorite online retailers, Ballard Designs, has debuted an exclusive line of Ankasa pillows for less than a third of the price. And thanks to the lovely folks at Ballard, one lucky reader is going to win one of these couture pillows on the house!
Each of these three high-end pillows is hand cut and features rich, hand embroidered details that are sure to dress up any seat in your house. You’ve got two 18″ square and a 12″ x 20″ floral throw pillow to choose from. Although with such hard work put into their intricate designs I feel like we should call them “carefully place” pillows, not “throw pillows.”
To enter, just comment on this post with the words “HAND ‘EM OVER” by Wednesday, March 18th at 8pm EST. The most intricate thing I’ve ever made is definitely my first manuscript that went off to my agent a little over a week ago. Yikes!

I don’t actually “make” anything intricate anymore, but I spend an inordinate amount of time perfecting my Christmas tree. No one else is allowed to help – it’s actually a problem that I’ve written about before.
But when I was little I loved paper-related projects. I used to cover jewelry boxes with scraps of my mother’s wallpaper samples. I used silk ribbon and different pattern cut outs. And I made the pattern by myself. In retrospect it was probably really cute – I was so serious about it. I did keep one and still have it.

Gorgeous. The most complicated thing I have ever made with my own two hands was a shadow box in 7th grade tech ed. I could never cut the pieces for an exact fit. At that time I couldn’t master the measure twice-cut once concept!

The most delicate thing I’ve ever made was a sculpture. It’s still at my parents’ house because I’m too afraid to try to move it down to my house.

HAND ‘EM OVER! I love your blog. I’ve (with my husband) have remodeled and added on to 7 houses and have built one during our 30 years of marriage. We are total project people and have done alittle bit of everything, I think. Brick work, tiling, stone laying, landscaping, etc. I’ve been on the roof and under the house!

I made a quilt in my high school “Fiber and Fabrics” class; I ended up giving it to my aunt and uncle to use for my baby cousin’s bed. It wasn’t the best looking quilt ever, but it did its job!

The most intricate thing I’ve ever made was a custom clutch a friend ordered as a gift. It involved pleating fabric, painting on it, laying mesh over it, adding beads at specific intervals to tie the two layers together, embroidering on top of all that, and that was just for the outside part of the bag! The inside lining was padded, quilted, and had a hand written message to the recipient. It was a LOT of work, and a lot of fun to create. :)

The most delicate thing I’ve ever made was probably an array of christmas ornaments for my parents. Every year we made something different in scouts or school…but they’ve stood the test of time. 20 years later mom still has that god’s eye on the tree.

Hand ’em over. Mu husband and I tackled adding a railing to our deck this past summer. I didn’t realize how weak I am until I had to hold 4×4 posts in place while my husband drilled.

Hand ’em over! Please – ;) Two years ago we built a rather large home with three children under three, the youngest of which was born mid-build. I had to nurse the baby many times in many showrooms, and the poor salesmen didn’t know where to look! LOL!

I pieced and quilted a quilt for my daughter, 100% by hand :) I also made a framed, pulled thread (Hardanger) embroidery anniversary gift for both my parents and my husband’s parents for their 30th anniversaries. They turned out really beautifully, and it’s very rewarding to see them hanging in their homes.
