This next giveaway came to us as a nursery-themed giveaway, but personally we think Numsi‘s uniquely mod art is suitable for walls of any age. Their contemporary patterns (or custom text) is printed on canvas and then mounted on a 2″ deep birch museum frame to give it some modern dimension and bring some pop to you art collection.
Plus, since the deep birch plywood cradle makes these blocks of art so sturdy, they can hang on the wall, sit on a shelf or anchor your latest mantlescape. So have some fun browsing their collection of animals and vehicles or patterns and text, because one of you is taking away a $100 credit towards anything on Numsi’s site this week (and the rest of you are taking away a sweet discount).
Here’s how to enter this week:
- PRIZE: $100 towards anything from Numsi.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BLOCK ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … since we’re referencing writer’s block, why not share a tip that you use to overcome any creativity or productivity block. Do you go someplace special to help you focus? Got an mental exercise to get your juice flowing again? Or do just go do something else and hope the motivation finds you again later.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, May 19th at 8pm EST

BLOCK ME,
I just walk away and hope it comes to me later!
Kate M. says
BLOCK ME!
Depending on the weather, I usually get up from my desk and take a walk around the block. It clears my head, allows me to get some fresh air, and gives me an opportunity to return to my computer more cool, calm and collected.

I sometimes give myself a shorter time frame, say 10 minutes to just focus and dump no matter how bad it might be — just to get something down.

My preferred method to unblock my mind to do is hop on a treadmill, listen to music with eyes closed and try to think back on my best vacations. I find my memory works better when I’m running, I can remember things vividly!

I stop thinking about it completely. I do something else. Things normally come to me right before I go to sleep or right as I wake up…as does my mom. We have a history of early morning or late at night calls that start with, “okay I have an idea”
Erin says
Block me…I usually walk away and let it come to me. Sometimes it takes a long time, but eventually it happens. It’s hard to be patient, though.

Jenny says
BLOCK ME…when I need unblocking I ask my blog partner for a topic. For some reason, everything just starts to flow after a topic has been suggested to me rather than me coming up with it on my own.

BLOCK ME!
When I can’t seem to get in the creative groove, I cook. It doesn’t sound like it would help, but it has its own creative element that makes me feel like I’m still accomplishing something. :)

I call my hubby and tell him about my delay. He usually motivates me into focusing.
Jenn Hoover says
Block Me!
I find that a bit of fresh air does the trick most of the time: go for a walk, go and grab some coffee, or run a quick errand to get your mind focusing on other things. Which then gives you a rev’ed up / active mind-set when you get back home and need to dig in again.

A good nap always clears my mind.
Deana says
BLOCK ME!!!
I hardly get inspiration block, there are so many things that inspire me on a daily basis. I see something in a magazine, blog, or even walking around the fabric store and i have another thing to add to my list of things that I want to do. I don’t have a honey do list, I have a honey I want to make or build this list.

I always try to turn on some peppy music (you know, the I’m about to have a dance party by myself kind)and then find some way to just dig in anywhere. Once I’ve found a place to get started, it all seems easier. Otherwise I end up over thinking and procrastinating for a long time.

I’m often faced with creative block when starting a new graphic design project. I have a huge inspiration file that I keep nearby at all times, just for circumstances like these. In it, are all types of cuttings, from interiors magazines, to cooking magazines, from neat postcards I’ve received in the mail, to crests off t-shirts that I’ve loved. Usually, flicking through that file is enough to get the creative juices flowing.
Thank you for the fantastic giveaway!

Whenever I get writer’s block, I start making random lists in my head. I’ll be like “Shannon, what are your top 5 fears?” and when I’m trying to make the list, a funny story or experience pops in my mind that’s blog worthy. Lists are key. List.are.key. :)

When I am experiencing writer’s block, for say, an english class, I try to think of a subject that I can write the history of along with a DIY or step by step instruction on how to do something. Works like a charm.

Wonderful giveaway. Thanks to you and Numsi for giving us the opportunity to win. As to blocks to creativity, I find that getting up from my desk and doing something physical — it can be anything from taking a walk to vacuuming my living — usually helps. I think the key is shifting mental gears so that your conscious mind gets a rest from what it’s been agonizing over, and your subsconscious mind gets to do its thing.

Block me!
Something I heard one writer use as a writers-block “remedy” they called, “morning pages”. First thing in the morning – before you even get up or even think about starting to get ready for the day – grab a bedside journal and just write. write write write whatever comes to mind, even if you start repeating yourself and everything in it is rubbish. It gets your creative juices flowing. I go through phases where I’ll try this out, and sometimes its great, other times, doesn’t do much :)

I start making a list of some of the bad/lame/boring ideas that I am able to think of. I think things like, “this won’t work because…” and “here are some more stupid ideas”. Sometimes, you get it out of your system and can move on to the good stuff. Sometimes, a bad idea sparks something in your head for a good idea. At the very least, it functions as venting and you see that you are at least capable of AN idea, even if it’s not a great one.
