And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME!! Me and my BFF have known each other for 22 years (we met in 7th grade). Funniest thing is we both married guys with the same first name (it’s not a really common name either)and both guys were born in the same month within one week of each other. The guys are now BFF’s and we both have boys that are growing up to be BFF’s. That’s some BFF love…LOL.
Lou says
BYOF Me! My best friend and I met at church when we were in grade school. We look nothing alike but were always called the twins in high school because we were inseparable. There is no one on earth who makes me laugh as much as she does.

BYOF ME!
My BFF and I met our sophomore year of college at VA Tech when I was rushing the sorority she was already in. There we started our tradition of getting all dressed up to go out partying and instead just going to eat by ourselves. Everyone else would be out dancing, but we were eating lasagna and pizza and loving it. Ha! It was during our college years that we came up with our nicknames, Marilynisha and Shirisha. You don’t want to know the story behind those! While she lives in Richmond and I live in NoVa, we still manage to get together often and talk all the time. I gave her a signed copy of your book for her more recent birthday, so she can decorate her home fabulously. :)

BYOF ME!
We met in college–she was my freshman roommate. And yes, we call each other a crazy nickname, “crack”, “cracky”. I can’t even explain the story of how that came about but suffice to say, seeing one another from across a crowded room and yelling out “crack! you’re here” happened daily! We got some looks. Oh, yes, we did.

I have a built-in BFF, my younger sister. I have loads of other friends, but if I’m in need of some cheering up, someone to hang around the house in sweats with or someone to laugh at jokes that no one else can understand, she’s the gal. She just got married and is looking to buy a house. I know she’d love an IKEA gift card or two!

My BFF and I have known each other all our lives, but didn’t become BFF’s until about our sophomore year of high school. We attended the same university and lived in the same sorority and ended up working across the street from each other for almost 10 years until we both took different jobs. Now our kids go to the same daycare and we vacation together whenever we get a chance! No secret handshakes, just some awesome jam sessions to Aerosmith in the car driving back and forth to school on the weekends.

Liz says
BYOF Me! My bff and I were college roomies, and the most crazy thing we ever did together was end up in Pennsylvania for a wedding during a blizzard where the caterer didn’t show or the dj, so we ended up serving the food and playing our iphones to save the day :)
Deb DesMarteau says

I met one of my BFFs in 7th grade when I was the new kid in school and she steered me in the right direction. I met the other in college just before school started. We came early because we worked at the food court and even though we never worked a shift together for our entire first semester (year?) we’ve been close ever since.

BYOF ME!
I met my BFF when I was 6 and she was 7. I’d just moved into a new neighborhood and really wanted to meet new friends, so when I saw her riding her bike down the street I pounced… literally. I jumped on my own bike and chased her down the block. When I finally caught up to her I was out of breath and I yelled “My name’s Susanna, wanna be my friend?” It worked. We’ve been BFF for almost 25 years.
Katy says
BYOF ME! My BFF and I met 18 years ago in high school. We bond over the silliest things and might not talk for a week or two but pick right back up where we left off every time.
Christina says
BYOF Me!
My sisters are my absolute besties after the fact that I’d rather spend time with husband than anyone else in the world. I’m also really enjoying seeing the people my children are becoming. I have loved every stage of motherhood. I think it is too bad that so many give teens a bad rap. But family probably doesn’t count, so I’ll choose my college roommate from oh so long ago. We usually talk twice a week and no…a nickname would be weird outside of the usual shortened version of our full names. I am the queen of nicknames, but ain’t no way I’m giving a ‘pet’ name to someone outside of my family.

BYOF ME! MY BBF and I have been friends for 20 years. She would LOVE to go to Ikea with me on March 9!

BYOF me!!!
Other than my sister (built-in BFF) and husband, I’ve known my BFF, Beth, since she was born! I was two years older than her and her grandmother was our neighbor/babysitter/family-friend-that’s-more-like-family, so we were friends from the get-go. We grew closer in high school and bonded over a mutual love of the Monkees, even making up nicknames for each other (based on the Monkees). :-)
