And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME! I met my BFF at the bus stop on the first day of 6th grade. It was a gross and rainy day out so I had a hat on with all of my hair tucked under it and at first she thought I was a boy!
Anne in SC says
BYOF Me! My bestie is like a sister to me. We met at work 17 years ago and it’s been non stop ever since.

BYOF ME! my bestie and i met in 8th grade but she didn’t like me until maybe junior year of high school…LOL. 22 years later we’re practically sisters.

BYOF ME! My BFF and I have been acquaintances since the 7th grade, when I moved to town, but our friendship didn’t really solidify until we randomly went on a spring break trip together our sophomore year of college. After that, we’ve been inseparable, even though we now live about 800 miles apart. Our weird thing is trying to tell other people about the time we mistook twins for one person for the better part of two years. ;) No one EVER gets it because we can’t stop laughing long enough to tell it coherently.
Nikki says
BYOF ME! My best friend and I met when we were roommates together our freshman year of college. We are total opposites, but living together really cemented our friendship. Of course, having met in college means that we have all kinds of inappropriate inside jokes!
Jessica says
BYOF ME!
My BFF is someone I met in college. We were the same major (advertising!) and even worked together after. She’s Deth and I’m Balls (and this is such a long story so I’ll just let you think we’re weird).
And we both love Ikea more than words.

BYOF ME!
My bestie and I met in 2004 at our freshman orientation for college. Our inside joke is “it was all because of a little blue paper”. To fill you in, at orientation, they handed out little pieces of paper and we were supposed to find our match. My match was Samantha and we were instantly besites :)
Courtney says
BYOF!!!! My BFF and I met as college roommates. Eight years since graduation and we have yet to keep a phone conversation under an hour….usually keeping it under two is difficult. She also was with me during my first ever Ikea experience so she would definitely be getting one of the giftcards :-)
Mary says
BYOF me! My BFF and I have been friends since junior high. We don’t do so much crazy stuff together now, but we used to sing some really rockin’ duets in the back seat of the car using hairbrushes as microphones.

My bestie is my friend Heather. Even though we are on opposite sides of the country, we stay in touch every single day and even co-write our blog together! I would have to write and essay to tell y’all how much I love her…but she is THE BESTEST of best friends ever!!

BYOF Me! My besties are my sister and a dear friend of 10+ years! My sister was born when I was 8 and as the only two girls out of a five-kid family, we’ve always banded together. My dear friend and I met at a college night visit when we were still in high school and bonded over cooking, our love of travel (we take an annual girl trip!), and all the ways we love to stay fit, including dancing of course.
Anna Sebok says
BYOF ME! My bestie’s name is Laura, and she is currently teaching English in Japan…quite far away from me here in DC! We met in middle school, and to this day I don’t remember how, but my most significant early memory is walking home from 8th grade graduation with her talking about boys. :)

My best friend is my sister — we have the same weird and quite sense of humor! Since we live in different states — we love doing anything together when we get the chance … going out to our favorite diner, drinking wine, trips to Target, etc.

I’ve known my bestie Julie for practically my whole life. She’s the only girl in her family (has 1 little bro) and I’m an only child so we call each other “sis” since we don’t actually have real ones and we’re like family.
Anne Frangos says
BYOF Me! My main bestie is my husband. My other bestie and I have been friends for about 6 years now. Our nicknames aren’t really public appropriate :)

BYOF ME! My BFF was my randomly assigned college roommate 12 years ago. I just got back yesterday from visiting her in another state. We have kids and houses and husbands now, so it’s a LITTLE less exciting than the college days but I’m pretty sure we’ll be BFFs forever.

BYOF me!!! My best friend and I met when we went in to college “blind” and luckily ended up in a 11 x 12ft room together. We hit it off immediately and even our suite-mates were surprised to know that we had only know eachother for a few weeks and had not grown up together. We were maid of honors at eachother’s weddings and now we’re raising babies together! So fun!

Jane Nelson says
BYOF ME! Amy and I have been BFFs since we were 11! We live in different states now (she lives in TX and I live in FL), but our favorite thing to do is talk on the phone for hours at a time. She gives great advice and loves despite my shortcomings. We did one time have a bubble gum eating (chewing?) contest to see who could fit the most in our mouths. I don’t remember who won, but there was a lot of bright pink drool involved . . .
Serena says

JennieM says
BYOF ME! My BFF and I met in 9th grade home-ec class. I can still sing the song we used to sing about our teacher…”Oh Mabel, oh Mabel, please come to our table…” it went on from there…am not putting the rest into print…soooo not appropriate!

My best friend is named Alissa and we used to talk about going on tour as stand-up comediennes (no idea why, because we are really only hilarious to each other, lol). She’ll be my maid of honor at my wedding this year!

BYOF! My best friend is my sister (we met when I was 2 and she was born). We do everything ridiculous together, but one weird thing is that we very often end up wearing the same or matching outfits, without coordinating and despite getting dressed in different times and places.
Amelia says
BYOF Me! My oldest bestie and I met in 5th grade and we hated each other at first. We played terrible pranks on each other and were kind of terrible, but then…the tide shifted and before long we were attached at the hip. She lives in Germany now (sad face) but we still keep up weekly over email and she’s one of my son’s ‘aunties’. :)
