And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

My BFF & I met at work 4 years ago. We live across the country from each other now, but we’re still just as close! We have weird nicknames that no one else calls us & plenty of inside jokes, which seems less prevalent with other friendships now that we’re solidly in our 30’s.

BYOF ME! We met in high school but didn’t become super besties until we were college roommates and beyond. Awww!

I met my first best friend in middle school. We were both in band and advanced algebra classes. Even though I moved away at the start of high school, we stayed in touch via handwritten letters, summer visits, and now facebook. We’re not as close as we once were but I still consider her one of my best friends.

I’ve known my bestie since we were five. We’ve had some wild and crazy times that our hubbies don’t even know about ;-) The craziest thing is that our hubbies grew up in the same neighborhood as each other so they also get to reminisce about the “good old days” whenever we all get together.

I met my best friend when she was my manager at my high school job. She was my manager at two other places after that as well. She came to visit me this Fall after not seeing each other for six months, and people still think we are sisters right off the bat!

My BFF and I have been friends for a couple of years and really, BFFs for only the past year or so. We have kids in the same class & their younger siblings are BFFs :) She is game for almost anything and a strong support. We love taking the kids to ikea and dropping them off in the play area while we wander!! The only thing that would make it better is gift cards!

I met my best friend in college – I told her a joke about buying a half-eaten bag of Fritos on ebay and she laughed for way, way too long, possibly 10 minutes nonstop and it was so silly and strange I started laughing uncontrollably too. Than you, fritos and ebay and whoever made the listing, for bringing us together.

My BFF is my husband, Ben. We met at one of his high school basketball games. Before the game, the other guys on the team were picking on him for having such “girly eyelashes”. I put a halt to the teasing by informing them that his eyelashes were “really cute”! The rest is history – cheesy, yet true. :)

My BFF and I have weird nick names for each other. I called her Pepita forever because that was her name in Spanish class. She called me frog because I swallowed a bug when we played tennis together in high school (yeah, pretty gross). We’ve known each other since 8th grade and still get together every month.

I have a few besties, I grew up with five awesome girls and at 26 we still manage to get together and make time for each other after 15+ years of friendship, longer for others! We make an annual tip to the beach every summer, it’s certainly a highlight! Love my besties!

My BFF is my husband! We met when I was leading the Young Adult group at our church. The other leader and I had arranged an event, and then EVERYONE, including the other leader canceled last-minute… except for DH! I felt that as a leader I should go to the event, since at least one group member wanted to go. We carpooled and never stopped talking both there and back. The next day, Valentine’s Day, I e-mailed him a note – “Happy Singles’ Awareness Day”.
He promptly asked me out. :-) Apparently, he’d wanted to ask me out for a while, but thought I was dating another guy in the group, who happened to be a close friend (and someone I would never, ever date – we both felt that way and joked about it a lot, actually).
We’ve been married for over 5 years now, and have two kids!
My female BFF is a friend from college. We met during orientation week, and hung out almost constantly that first year. She even ended up moving into my dorm when she was finally able to switch out of her horrible roommate situation at the end of the first semester. We managed to stay friends after college, and got lucky and lived only an hour apart for two years. Sadly, we live thousands of miles apart now, but we talk on the phone at least once a week. We’ve done a ton of stuff together, from hiking part of the Appalachian trail to touring downtown Chicago, and we can’t wait to plan our next trip!

My BFF is my husband and we met our freshman year of college and have been inseperable since. We’ve been besties for 6 years now and now we have a set of fraternal twins! I don’t know if it really qualifies as a secret handshake but we always pinkie promise and then kiss our hands after (it’s more official I guess? haha)
