And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME – My best friend and I meet at a coupon club. At first I was not impressed – she dressed like a hippie and her two little boys were being brats. As I got to know her at club meetings, I realized how smart, kind, and funny she was. We have so much in common that we can talk for hours. Her friendship has brought so much joy in my life. Also her boys are actually angels who had a bad day the first time we meet. I now babysit them so my BF can attend college. Now for the funny part – we are complete opposites. She is 30 years old, I am 47. Her kids are young, mine are out of the house. I am a Christian, she is an atheist. She dresses bohemian, I dress dressy causal. I could go and on about our differences but it doesn’t matter cause when we are together, there is so much humor, wisdom (more her than mine), love, and respect that I can’t imagine my life without her. It’s like imagine life without Ikea.

BYOF me!!!!
My best friend is my husband ( whom I married 2 months ago ), we met throuhh text messaging.. I knew a friend of his and his f riend gave me his phone number and told me to call.. so, as any insane woman would do.. I sent him a text on a Friday morning at 8 30.. 2 minutes later he answered! We texted the whole day and at night he had added me on chat but I wasn`t paying much attention because I had just bought a new puppy. He ended up asking my address and I gave it to him.. all I know is that I turned to play with the new puppy and when I turned back, he said that he would be at my house in ten minutes, and he was offline! He quickly arrived there and came in and met my mother and my new puppy and I, hehe. Needless to say, we fell in love and started dating just a week later!

BYOF ME! My BFF lives 400 miles away in my hometown in GA. We met at my first job when I was 16. She’s so sweet. She recently surprised me when I she sent us a generator as a gift after I told her we lost power during a recent snow storm.. Not too many friends would do that. She’s the bestest!!

(I mean…I was there for her babies birth! lol) Weirdest thing we love to do…hmmm…probably our TMI conversations that would make anyone blush! hahaha And my secret nickname is “Big Bunz”. LOL Which came from my obsession with with baking homemade bread….OH! And lets face it I have a rear end too! LOL

Well, she calls me Jennifer even though my real name is Jenna. I call her Katherine even though she goes by Katie. We were in each others weddings and plan to go on family vacations together when we have kids. We are BFF!

Well, my best friend is most definitely my husband. Does that count? We met in college (after I had secretly been admiring him for awhile!)
And, my OTHER (non-husband) best friend works with me! I’m so thankful that I met her every day! Sometimes after work we go and wander through Lowes and “daydream” about all the things we want to do to our homes! One day! :)

We met at college playing soccer together so 9 years ago. We have the same nickname from growing up in two different areas in Oregon. We loved listening to an 80’s cd while cruising around town. We love going to IKEA together. We love just walking around and finding different items. The town that she lives in now in Washington does not have an IKEA since she is in Eastern Washington and I moved to Illinois. But every time we see each other we sure have to make a trip to IKEA. We don’t have a secret handshake, but all I know is: “Katie don’t do math! (inside joke from playing monopoly):

We met in the cul-de-sac at the ripe ol’ age of 10 (26 now) and we’ve been besties ever since. Even when long times pass between us seeing each other (oh hey college and transcontinental moves),when we get together it’s like nothing has changed. We do have a special ‘foot shake’ because we decided we were too cool for a handshake :)
