And our lucky-slash-friendly winner this week is… Jennifer M (whose best friend is her husband. They met in college studying architecture together and now work together). Congrats!
If you saw that title above and thought “oh, like the Bestå media storage system from Ikea” instead of “typo alert!” then you may be just as into the fine purveyor of flat-packaged Swedish furniture as we are. And if you’re not the only Ikea lover in your circle of friends, then you’ll be happy to learn that this Saturday on March 9th Ikea is celebrating BYOF (Bring Your Own Friend) day as part of their ongoing Life Improvement Project. The day will feature freebies, special discounts, seminars, activities, and even gift card giveaways. Speaking of which… they’re giving one lucky reader three $100 gift cards right here this week (one for the winner and two for his or her friends) – which I’m pretty sure would solidify your status as BFFs for life.
- PRIZE: Three $100 gift cards to Ikea
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “BYOF ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … about your BFF. How did you meet? How long have you been besties. What’s the weirdest thing you love doing together? Do you have funny nicknames for each other – or a secret handshake that involves winking and doing the Macarena?
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 6th at 8pm or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
- ***COMMENT ISSUES? If you’re trying to enter but keep getting a “duplicate comment” warning, click here to see how to solve it!
Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of Ikea.

BYOF ME! My BFF and I met freshman year of high school (11 years ago). Random people used to think we were twins (even though we really look nothing a like) because we would show up wearing the same thing without coordinating it!

OMG this one is my fave! Not just cuz it’s ikea but because of my bestie and me :)
We met when we were little girls and went to grade school together in Michigan.
Then about 3 years ago we reunited via facebook and realized we both were living in Washington less than 2 hours from each other and for a while were both living in Portland mere blocks from each other and never saw each other! We of course picked right back up where we left off and we call each other Sister Wives cuz we love each other so much and our hubbies have even bonded. I’d do anything for her!

BYOF ME! Yeah, that *does* sound wrong.:-) As for the bonus question, I know it sounds corny but I married my BFF. The funny part of the story is that we went to the same university (different colleges) and hated each other on sight. (Our politics are still radically different, but hey, if we can do it, we figure Congress should be able to get *their* act together…but I digress.)Anyway, he was dating the girl who sat in front of me and she got very tired of us cleverly sniping at each other over her head and asked us to call a truce. Once we each put down our weapons we got to see the qualities we still love about each other – humor, honor, fairness, affection…well, we have been together a long time so I won’t go into the whole inventory about what I continue to treasure in him. And, yes, we can communicate with a glance!

BYOF me, my BFF is my husband. He picked me up with the line, “Those are nice stained-glass windows, can I have your number?”

BYOF ME!!
My BFF is my old high school friend. We’ve known each other about ten years now. We typically get to see each other once a year, and she and her family just recently moved away from our hometown (I moved away a few years ago), so seeing each other is going to be even more difficult. I love going shopping with her, and we would always go to our favorite sushi/koreanBBQ restaraunt together. I miss her.

BYOF ME! My best friend and I went to elementary school together, but we didn’t become close until high school. We’re roommates now, and we always manage to have the most ridiculous adventures together! She always knows what I’m thinking, even if I don’t say it.

BYOF me!!!
I have a few best friends from different phases of life. My college bestie lives many miles away but we’ve managed to stay connected and squeeze in a few visits in spite of the miles between us. My other bestie and I met when we were both newbies to the town where our husbands had their first post-college jobs at the same company. We’ve both moved since then, but she’s still one of my top go-to gals.

My best friend growing up was a girl who lived across the back alley from me. We did everything together, and then were roommates in college for two years before we each found new best friends and married them! (aka our husbands.) :) She lives on the other side of the country now, so we only see each other about every 3 years or so (boo!), but we are definitely still BFF status!

BYOF ME! I met my BFF in kindergarten, when we got caught in the boys’ changing room together. Nearly 30 years later, we have moved from NYC to Oakland, California together, and she continues to be my number one support. There’s no one else I can laugh or cry with, confide in, have fun with, or lean on more than her. She’s always there for me and never lets me settle for less than I deserve (which can be hard sometimes). My BFF’s nickname is Adge, and mine is Lis. I’m about to buy a home, and Adge promised to help me decorate. I hope to win these gift cards so we can do that together. PS: I love your website, I read it all the time!
