Fab Freebie: Christmas Lights

This week’s early Christmas present is going to… Nancy (who says she “could certainly use some new lighting” and her favorite holiday glow “has to be my fireplace.”) Congrats Nancy!

As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

    Lamp me! I like traditional white lights and candle lights in the windows! Also, love the big light balls people are hanging outside on their trees (made with chicken wire and string lights–maybe I’ll feel crafty and try to make some one day!

    “LAMP ME!”

    Our small city of Kokomo, Indiana has it’s own artist, Patty Host. Patty has created a small village replicating various historic buildings from our town. My husband who happens to love decorating for Christmas, painstakingly arranges this little village above our cabinets in the kitchen. It is outfitted with snow, trees, people and best of all lights. He also puts little white lights in some of the other rooms in our home. At night they make the house so cozy and homey.

    Last year we threw out all our old lights broken white string lights. This year a neighbor gave us large multi-colored strings. We hung them. And they are adorable.They are so kid-friendly. Every color you can imagine.

    LAMP ME! I love it all! The Christmas lights, fires in the fireplace, the warm glow from candles… It’s the most wonderful time of the year! (too sappy? oh well!)

    My husband and I just had the great christmas light debate yesterday. He prefers LED because they save electricity and are the new thing. I perfer the old style white lights because it makes the tree glow. Our compromise was 2 strands led, 2 strands old style for one bright tree.

    I love a roaring (but under control) fire burning in the fireplace while basking in the glow of the traditional white lights on our tree. :)

    lamp me! have yet to use my fireplace this winter because it’s been so mild!! however, you can’t beat the warm glow, crackle and smell of a real fire!

    I like candles around at Christmas. I was always the one to go around and light them on Christmas eve growing up.

    this may seem silly, but i really love when television channels dont run any programs on christmas but instead they show a whole day of a flickering fireplace! my family always left it on while i was growing up!

    On our tree, only old school white lights. Outdoors, color is OK because our house is a little bland outside anyway. I can’t stand LED lights! They make my eyes twitch!

    LAMP ME! My favorite is the sparkle on a Christmas tree. We’re squeezing what is left for life out of retro colored bulbs passed down from my parents and Grandma. I love the memories they invoke lighting up our family tree now!

    Lamp me!!! My favorite holiday lights are the white twinkly ones we put on the stair rail with garland… reminds me of my childhood Christmases!
