Fab Freebie: Christmas Lights

This week’s early Christmas present is going to… Nancy (who says she “could certainly use some new lighting” and her favorite holiday glow “has to be my fireplace.”) Congrats Nancy!

As much as we love holiday lights, indoor lighting is something that you stare at every day of the year. So if you don’t love your lighting situation, this is one way to “dude, get on that” without spending any cash. See, recently we were voted one of Lamps Plus’ top home blogs of 2012 (how flattering!) and it came with a $500 shopping spree prize… but you know we don’t take freebies or swag, so the folks at Lamps Plus kindly agreed that we could pass that $500 credit to one of you! We’ve been fans of theirs for a while now since they seem to have about a million options (their chandeliers even popped up in our book a few times) so this week’s winner should have no trouble finding something to spend their light-loot on if they win.

    Lamp me! I love how all the houses are lit up. It’s always sad in January when everyone takes them down and the neighborhoods become so drab.

    My favorite type of holiday light is this strand of multi-colored Christmas tree lights that have little clear plastic flowers around the base of each light. It refracts the colors in the most amazing way.

    Lamp me!
    My fav may seem rather ridiculous, but when I was a kid, my Grandmother has a cheesy plastic, light-up Santa that she sat on the counter in – of all places – her bathroom! I found one exactly like it on Etsy and he will also grace the vanity in the bathroom of my very fisrt house. As soon as the plumber installs a vanity!

    LAMP ME!

    For my own home, I like simple candles in the windows. That being said, though, checking out all the different ways people decorate their yards/outside their homes with different holiday lights is almost as good as getting a peak inside with a real housetour! I really just love seeing all of the variety/ creativity.

    I grew up in a colored light household, but now I am a warm white light convert. All the lights in and around my house are warm white.

    I love the old fashioned bubble lights AND the teeny tiny “rice” lights. they make things seem magical

    LAMP ME! I love seeing all the lights around DC… the White House and the Capital Christmas trees, the fancy hotels decked out with white lights, the storefronts in gold and silver.

    While it is not my personal Holiday decorating preference, I love seeing the houses that are completely, and ridiculously, covered in lights – flashing, blinking, obnoxious lights. It makes me happy when I drive past!

    LAMP ME! I love the glow of the lights on the HUGE Christmas tree at my parents’ when they are turned on Christmas morning, when it is still dark out and glimmering over the gifts.

    LAMP ME!!! Despite enjoying the traditional white lights for Christmas, my 4 year old insisted on colored lights for our first Christmas in our new house. Have to say, I’m in love!

    LAMP ME!
    Growing up we’d often eat dinner by candlelight during the holidays. My favorite candle-holder was a painted terracotta angel tea-light holder…you put the candle in through the back of her skirt and the front of the skirt had stars cut out of it. The heat vented out of the top of her head via a hole in the center of her angel bun. So cute!

    LaMp mE! Alternating green & red spotlights on the house is my go-to. SUPER EASY to setup/takedown & it’s classic, not overwhelming. Pretty from street too! (Add white light accents where you see fit or NOT if you’re lazy like me this year…8 mo preggers;)
