Who doesn’t love candelight? The soft glow, the romantic mood, the fire hazard… wait, forget that last part. Well, you can literally forget about that last part thanks to the bright minds behind this week’s giveaway from Smart Candle. Their flameless candles take the mess and worry out of setting the mood at your next dinner party, couple’s night in or spooky séance (if you’re into that sort of thing).
We were a smidge skeptical of these faux candles at first, but after receiving a set to take for a test-run, we were pleasantly surprised. The rechargeable LED light has an incredible way of flickering so randomly that you’d have almost no idea they weren’t real. Plus, their tea-light size means you can drop them into just about any of your existing votive candle holders if you ever need a change from the modern, frosted glass cups that Smart Candle provides (or even some cool luminary bags to line your front walkway). They’ll even look great in your windows during the holidays.
And the good news is that we’ve got TWO 4-pack gift sets up for grabs (each retailing at $52). To enter, just comment on this post with the words “I’LL FAKE IT” by Wednesday, May 27 at 8pm EST. And while you’re at it, tell us what other imitation items you happily rely on. Are you all about buying generic grocery store items? Do you gladly show off your faux-croc loafers? Do cover bands really get you going?
We’ll select our two lucky winners using random.org and announce them later in the week. As usual we only accept one entry per e-mail address, but Smart Candle ships globally so everyone on the entire planet has a shot at the prize. Good luck…

The only thing I fake is my appreciation for my husband’s cooking. I keep hoping he’ll get better with practice.
He’s such a sweetheart for trying.

I’LL FAKE IT! Just don’t tell Himself ;)
Recently I have been using fake (rice) milk and fake (wheaten free, gluten free etc) bread and fake (fruit) tea. I’m supposed to be on a dairy-free, wheat-free diet.
Maybe it’s an Irish thing but not being allowed to have a mug of strong, roasting hot, milky tea whenever I damn welll please is the killer.

My faux leather purse and wallet from Mat & Natt always gets raves from the meat eaters and a double check from the vegans . . .

I’LL FAKE IT when I make spaghetti sauce…I always mince up veggies so they disappear into the sauce, and no one ever knows (well, ok, once my nephew said “hey, theres something orange in here! I think I like it!”).

If I can get it cheaper, but looks as good, I’ll buy it fake. Cloths, groceries, household, whatever.

I’LL FAKE IT!! We use lots of store-brand items – that’s about as “fake” as we get, I think.

I’LL FAKE IT!!!
This is kinda bad… I used to wear what we called “fake buns” to work everyday!! You can still buy them in the mall, they look like a ponytail holder with hair on it. You match it up to your hair, put your hair in a bun, wrap it around and VOLIA! You have an instant curly bun. I have to be at work at 6am every day so it was a lifesaver!!! Now I just get up and fix my hair – I wore the bun out!

I use generics all the time. Why pay more when the store brand is just as good? (Usually it is just as good!) Also, I “fake it” with clothes all the time by mixing and matching different brands and making my own modifications occasionally. I “fake” furniture all the time too. Most stuff can be faked for a lot less and can be enjoyed more b/c of the resulting lack of debt! :)

Thanks for the chance!

I’m all about the fake Christmas tree. W/ 4 kids and a dog around here, I honestly don’t feel like watering and vacuuming needles every day. I paid a pretty penny for a “realistic” one – it’s HUGE! I also like to decorate to the max with ~800 lights, and a TON of ornaments, so I guess one doesn’t really see much of the tree anyway! ;)

I’m with Sherry on her obsession with Target shoes! I get lots of compliments on my shoes and accessories, and they are almost always from Target or Walmart! And generic of certain groceries are just as good as the name brand. Pasta sauce though, I will never buy generic! :)

I’ll fake it! Our local chain-grocery store has an AMAZING organic/natural foods section. The only problem is that it is pretty pricy. The store’s “cheap” brand (called “Roundy’s”) recently came out with it’s own organic label! We buy organic from whatever we can from Roundy’s and purchase the rest in the expensive section! :)

I’m all about shopping at thrift stores and on Craigslist for home accessories/furniture – things that need a little love. I love finds that look like trash when you buy them but with a little TLC look like they’ve come from West Elm.

I’ll fake it not only with the awesome candles from Smart Candle, but I love my fake cherry blossoms during the spring time.

I’LL FAKE IT! I’m thinking of using these tealights in my attempt at “hanging hemp twine light fixtures.” I’m trying to substitute fake candles instead of going the electrical wiring route, because that, my friends, is a disaster waiting to happen.
I also fake it when it comes to stenciling. I use Uppercase Living. :)
