An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!
With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

It would definitely have to be square footage and a fenced in backyard! We’re currently in a 1 bedroom apartment as we are saving for our first home, and with 2 dogs and 2 humans, we’re a bit squished. More room would be amazing and the dogs would also enjoy a place to run around safely!

I would love for my next house to have a mud room off of the garage and a basement. I need more storage.

At the top of my list would be a 2nd bathroom. With 5 of us in the house, one isn’t enough! Coming in a close second would be an extra bedroom. Family visits often and it can get pretty squishy.

If I could buy a new house, it would NOT have a pool in it. Have you seen the movie Money Pitt? Yep, that’s our now $10K in pool repairs. It hurts every time we jump in.

HOMES ME!
Definitely a home with a fireplace that can heat a portion of our house. After hurricane Sandy we lost power for a decent amount of time and our house was VERY COLD!!!
Debra Wooley says
HOMES ME! I love my 107 year old typical brick Baltimore rowhome – I remodeled 3 years ago. But I need an awning for my deck – it’s too hot during the afternoon to use hte back deck.

In my next house, I would definitely love to have a fireplace! My current home doesn’t have one, but it would definitely be something I’d look for in my next place!

For me the most important feature in my future home (I’m about to be in the market for one) is access to mass transit. We’re focused on being a 1 car family.

HOMES ME!
I’d definitely go for a bigger kitchen, and a second bathroom.
I’d also never buy anything with stucco ceilings again! Although, this blog inspired me to freshen them up and they don’t cause me stress on a daily basis anymore. One coat of carfully applied Benjamin Moore ceiling paint was enough to fix mine right up. http://www.queenofwhirled.com/2011/08/how-to-paint-popcorn-ceiling.html

My must haves for the next house – the only thing I daydream about in another house is a kitchen with an island instead of a peninsula and a bathtub in my master bath instead of a shower. :0)

homes me! A kitchen island!!!!

HOMES ME! We own a very cozy New England style cape, which we love, but we both agree it would be nice to have a more open floor plan next time.

HOMES ME! My new house must have would be a nice flat backyard for our dog. Our current house has a hilly back yard with a small ravine near the back of the property. It’s a pain to maintain and there isn’t as much space for our dog to play as I’d like him to have.
Kimberly Brown says
Homes Me! Well, Homes us! I am mommy of 7 month old twins who have just begun crawling. My husband and my job causes us to relocate often (every two or so years) and finding a home is ALWAYS a challenge (even before the babies). I want to be close to work (I despise early wake ups), in a safe neighborhood, and have a good sized fenced yard (the larger the yard the less I worry about entertaining the dog). Since having these mobile destruction teams (one is laying under his swing chewing on the TV remote, the other has found the box of wipes, opened it, and appears to be cleaning his own face) I NEED A PLAY ROOM. A large room with easy to clean floors, barn style doors that I can peer over with ease, and no electrical outlets below three feet. Gotta go… one has left the room.
Shannon P says
HOMES ME!
My future home will have a nice, open kitchen and a yard for gardening! Eventually!

HOMES ME! My must have for a new house would be an extra bedroom to convert into my dream “dog room”. Easy to keep clean floors and walls, tons of storage space and that built in dog bath/shower to keep them clean and fresh!
Ashley McIntyre says
HOMES ME! More square footage and a fenced in back yard for our little pup to run in!
Dixie says
Homes Me! Bigger kitchen. Closer in town because I am so tired of the long drive to wherever we go.
meghan marks says
HOMES ME! My must have for our next home would be a bigger master bath! We have the tiniest bathroom and would LOVE to have enough space for my husband and I to be in there without someone catching an elbow!
Audie K says
Homes Me!! I look at the number of bathrooms. It is so hard to share when everyone gets ready for work at the same time.
Deana says
HOMES ME! My dream home would have a laundry room…I currently have a laundry closet in my kitchen. Dirty clothes in my kitchen…yuck!
Melanie says
HOMES ME!!! For our next home I’d like a flat backyard with a surrounding fence.
Lauren says
HOMES ME! I can’t wait to (someday) have a larger master bedroom/bathroom suite with space for all of our bedroom furniture and a separate shower and tub.
