Fab Freebie: Homes On Homepage

*** This giveaway is now closed. See who won below! ***

An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!

With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

HOMES ME! I would love to have a bigger garage (as would my husband). A second full bathroom would also be nice (we have a mad sketchy half bathroom in the basement that I refuse to use…for anything).

As much as I love DIY, if I could buy a new home I’d go for something that only needed cosmetic work and not the major structural/functional work that our current home reno has required.

HOMES ME! My must have in a new house would be a bigger closet. I don’t even need a huge one, just one a little bigger than my current one, which is the size of a hall closet (it is a 1950’s house after all!)

a better layout and a newer house. I love our 1950s fixer upper but next time I would buy something much newer and cleaner. unless we found an
old farmhouse that could steal my heart and make me change my mind :)

HOMES ME! A new house would have to have dark wood floors and thick trim/crown molding (or cheap enough for us to change out the flooring immediately!).

    Homes me!

We just bought a new house a couple of months ago. Our previous home was built in the early 50’s, so our master closet was barely deep enough to hold hangers, and our master bath was so tiny we didn’t have enough wall space to install a towel bar. Our non-negotiable was his and hers sinks and a walk in closet.

    They’ve completely restored our sanity.

Me and my husband actually are closing on a house in two weeks! As crazy as it sounds, my must have was a pantry. Our apartment didn’t have one and it was insane. My husband’s must have was a man cave. My other must have was square footage. Even though we don’t have children yet, I wanted a house that we could grow into.

My new home will have to have COUNTER SPACE! I have an L-shaped kitchen with a huge 2 level L-shaped island (but a 1200 SF house). When we upgrade homes in the coming year, i will need LOTS of counter space. I’m spoiled right now, and don’t think I could ever go back.

A home that is closer to work definitely tops the list for me (I commute 1.5-2 hours both ways, ugh). Other than that lots of windows for natural light and a big yard would be the best.

HOMES ME!!!! We actually just bought our first home this last year, so we LOVE it! We actually enjoy a smaller sized home, but one thing I’d like oversized is a laundry room! Fitting two (one day!) dog kennels and a sink and a counter and hang drying! Tho I can’t complain because I don’t do the laundry in our house ;)

I really love my current home (though it is a work-in-progress) but if I were looking…a foyer would top my “want” list. A real, honest-to-goodness foyer with a coat closet and a tile floor so I don’t have to schlep my wet coats (and beagle) thru the living room.
