An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!
With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

HOMES ME!
I we were able to buy a new home, the one feature we would want is a big mudroom. With dogs and horses things get a bit messy :-P

Well, we moved into our forever house (or, until-they-move-us-to-the-home) about 3 years ago. And it still needs a lot of work… but if we WERE looking for another home, I’d want something with a space for a mudroom. GAH! Our current config. is tough to figure out and it sort of lacks that function.
Christina says
Homes me! Definitely an extra bathroom!
Juliana says
Homes me! Must have a workable floor plan!
Michelle says
Homes Me!
A nice backyard is at the top of my must-have list. I live in an apartment right now and I can’t wait to move out and plant a garden.
Stephanie says
HOMES ME!
I definitely want a distinct foyer space, and a separate dining room! Our front door opens right into our dining/living space, and we struggle to set everything apart without making the room look smaller.
Wendy says
Homes me! A second bathroom would be ideal!
Trish says
HOMES ME!!
I would swoon over a house-as-time-capsule. EX: A house built in 1912 that hadn’t been updated since 1925. We dream of restoring an old fixer-upper, so a house with all original floors, fixtures, etc., would make me die of happiness. The older the better, but I’d be pretty delighted to buy a 50’s or 60’s time capsule too. Once you crawl into the 70’s though, we’re not interested. Sorry 70’s!

If I were buying a new home today my “must have” would be that it is located in New Jersey! We relocated to Maryland about 2.5 – 3 years ago for work, and have been trying to line things up to get back home ever since.

HOMES ME!
My must have would be a bigger backyard.
Brianna says
Homes me!
We just bought our first home and we’re thrilled with it, but if I were to buy another, I’d want some built in speakers, so that we can play Beatles music throughout the house :)
Amanda G. says
HOMES ME! A new home would definitely have to have space for my husband’s hobbies (home-brewing beer) and his work (percussionist so lots of large instruments). Oh and a garage for our car so we can stop parking on the street.
Corie says
HOMES ME! My “must-have” would be wood flooring!
Erin says
HOMES ME! I would be looking for a fabulous WHITE kitchen. :)
Dominika says
HOMES ME! A bigger kitchen for sure!
Jenn says
Homes me!
I’m desperate to redo the room my 3.5 year old and 19 month old boy/girl twins share. It’s been so challenging combining the 3 personalities, and 2 different sexes together, this would open some avenues up!
Christine says
Homes me, homey!
We bought our place in January of this year and it’s mostly great (literally next door to a delish new bistro and a food co-op) but the one thing I wouldn’t mind adding on is a garage.
Alison Sutter says
HOMES ME! We are coveting a fireplace. And a backyard is a must for us since we both grew up in the country. We want our kids to play kick the can!
Bree says
HOMES ME!
I’d love to have a large utility room and sun room!
Marissa says
HOMES ME!
I would LOVE a clothes chute.
Tabitha says
HOMES ME!
I would for sure have a wrap around porch & more closet space. You can never have enough outdoor or closet space!
Nichole says
HOMES ME!
We’ve only been in our current house for about two years, but if I were to look for a new house now, I would want a bigger master bedroom with enough room for a king bed and a little sitting/reading corner. A master bath would be great, too. Also, a bigger kitchen with enough room for a dining table.
Michaela says
HOMES ME!
My husband needs a man cave for all his manly stuff he had before we got married so I don’t have two sets of eyes watching me while in my living room.
Daniel says
Homes Me!
Chelsea says
Homes me, baby!
Jen B. says
Neighbourhood will always top the list.
Doris says
Homes Me!
Neighborhood close to my kid’s school and a laundry room!
Wendy Adams-Good says

I’d want a master bedroom with a bathroom attached. It sounds blissful.
Claire says

My must-haves are gas cooking (or ability to have gas cooking) and commutes that aren’t too terrible.
Anne says
HOMES ME!
Walk in closets!!!!!!!
Anne Smyers says
HOMES ME!
More closets!
Jackie says
Homes Me! Iam pretty much in my dream home but if I had to add something when purchasing a new house it would be a wood fired pizza oven!
Charla says
HOMES ME!
We’d love something closer to work, with hardwood floors and more storage space.
Ashley Baranowski says
HOMES ME!
An attached garage would be nice to have in Minnesota, but I love the character of my old home.
Whitney says
HOMES ME!
I just want land for the dogs and kids to run around.
Tamani says
homes me! i would love bigger bedrooms and a neighborhood with sidewalks, so we don’t have worry about getting run over every time we go for a walk.
Hailey says
HOMES ME!
I would love brand spankin’ new kitchen appliances. :)
Mary says
HOMES ME!
Probably hardwood floors. With all of our pets, I am tired of vacuuming their fur – I’d rather sweep or swiffer!
Karen says
HOMES ME!
I’d love a bigger living room or just more common space on our main floor. But generally I love our current house.
Lisa Leigh says
HOMES ME!
A yard without big trees. We have had too many trees fall during the past 20 years. so much $$ spent on tree removal
Jessica Morgan says
HOMES ME! If I were to buy a house right now it would have more square footage. Five people in 1400 square feet is pretty tight. It’s a good thing we all love each other!
Daniel says
HOMES ME!
Good neighborhood with a lot of kids my son’s age.
Felie H says
Homes me! I’d like a home with a basement, either unfinished or finished, doesn’t matter as long as it had one where we could eventually hang out in or have as a place to keep all our stuff, and a home with a little bit more square footage.
Rachel says
HOMES ME! I need an office so I don’t have to do all my work at the dining room table anymore.
Shannon Cooper says
HOMES ME!
I would look for more square footage and a fenced in yard.
Lilly says
HOMES ME!
I would choose a location first (school district, park, within-walking-distance-to-public-transportation), and then confine my search to that area.
Mary Ellen says
Homes me! I’d definitely look for another half finished / half workshop basement just like ours, it has the perfect play space for both kids and husbands!
Gina P says
HOMES ME!!
My next house will NOT be a mess of a fixer upper – it will have an already landscaped front and back yard, a 4th bedroom and pot-lights that are aligned properly in the ceiling.
gradgirl says
HOMES ME!!! Our “must-haves” are more square footage and a garage.
