An early Christmas present (in the form of this $500 Visa gift card) has randomly chosen to come to the hands of… Mary (whose dream house would be a “big cozy log cabin out in the woods” complete with fishing pond, swimming pool, hot tub, huge whirlpool tub in her bathroom and a giant walk in closet. Her fantasy list doesn’t end there, so check out her comment for the rest). Congrats Mary!
With a URL as broad as Homes.com, there are a lot of topics you might think they cover. Because people buy homes. They decorate homes. They do home improvements. You get the idea. Well, Homes.com does cover all of those things – from all stages of the home buying process to decor and DIY. We especially enjoyed their home values and city profiles (because we’re nerds for stuff like that). But what you’ll probably enjoy the most is the chance to win a $500 Visa gift card from Homes.com this week. Yup, five hundred dolla dolla bills (in plastic form) to spend wherever you’d like for whatever stage of home ownership you’re currently enjoying. Oh yeah, and they’re also giving away a signed copy of our book over on their blog.

Bathrooms that didn’t require extensive renovation. My husband would say a space for a media room, but I’d love to have bathrooms that I’d actually like to be in, and we’re not nearly as handy as you two.

My must-have would be a beautiful outdoor space. Living in California has made me appreciate being outside so much more compared to the lifestyle I had back in New Hampshire (where it’s cold 6 months out of the year!) I’d furnish it with a cozy deck or patio, a grill, and a hot tub, with pretty plants and landscape lights to create a nice ambiance.
Brandon says
Homes me!!! I would definitely be looking for an exciting up and coming neighborhood with lots to do and see!

I’m actually looking at buy a house right now! It might sound crazy but a big “must have” is DYI possibities. But I’m picky, I don’t want to do a whole house gut job but I want to be able to put my touch on my new house.
Heather says
HOMES ME!! With my little ones quickly growing up, a larger backyard would be at the top of my list.

We just moved into our house about 6 months ago. The one thing we really were looking for was S P A C E. We had been in a 2 bedroom apartment for the previous 4 years. We were done with living on top of each other.

HOMES ME!
I love my current house, but I dream of a master suite, complete with dual sinks and dual closets, in my next home.
Erica says
HOMES ME!
Definitely an extra bathroom and a front yard that would be a bit easier to modify. Over-gardened and bordered with a hard to remove cement barricade is really difficult to change!
Janice says
HOMES ME! Top of my list would be more bedrooms closely followed by laundry near the bedrooms and bigger closets.
Miss E says
Since I don’t have the helicopter to necessitate a heli-pad I believe that I would have to have a sink in the garage or nearby laundry room. I’m sick of having to use my kitchen sink for cleaning paint brushes or washing caulk out from under my nails!
HOMES ME!!!
Kristin says
HOMES ME!
Our must list would include 3 beds, 2 bath (very difficult to find in the Portland area). Most places have 1 bath which is a little frustrating.
Amy says
A must have would be a home built before 1940. St. Louis has amazing gorgeous red brick homes, and I WANT ONE. :)

Audrey says
Homes Me!
Is it crazy that I’d want a terrible kitchen that I wouldn’t feel guilty about ripping out and starting over with? Plus a big kitchen window over the sink that looks out into the backyard!
Ben says

Maeve says
Homes me! An open floor plan with an updated eat in kitchen and new appliances!
Karen J says
HOMES ME! … My number one must-have would be one more bedroom. Our house is 4 bed/3.5 bath which is enough for the four of us but an extra room to use as a dedicated study/playroom for the kids would be fab.
Margaret says
HOMES ME! A bigger foyer. We entertain a lot and it gets jammed when we have a lot of people over who end up leaving at the same time.

HOMES ME!
We just moved from a townhome to a house and the big selling features were a yard for our son to play in and the open floor plan for entertaining.
Heidi NL says
HOMES ME!
It would be really great to have a yard that could be fenced in. We have a dog and it would be wonderful to be able to take him out and not worry about him taking off after all of the rabbits that live there. Seriously, it is like Watership Down back there!
chelsea says
HOMES ME!! We love our house, but with twins on the way and two other little ones we are really wondering how long we can fit into our three bedrooms. More space!
Diana says
HOMES ME!
:)
If I could buy my first home I’d look for one with a great backyard, preferably something with a great view over a lake or something like that! So much of the interior of a house can be changed but your lot never will!
Amy says
HOMES ME! A pantry would definitely be on my list of must-haves. We don’t have enough cabinet space for food currently, so we store some in our laundry room downstairs. It’s a pain to keep track of how much we have on hand since food is on different floors. 2nd must have would be having nature trails nearby. Not sidewalks, but actual woodsy nature trails.
Katie says
HOMES ME! Christmas decorating makes me want a fireplace with a mantle in my next house
