Ok, so maybe you didn’t get that bit of bling you wanted for Valentine’s Day earlier this month. Here’s your chance to rectify the situation with some personalized jewelry from Lisa Leonard Designs. She even sells home decor-related pieces like necklaces with a chandelier, paper lanterns, frames and a house key on them. If those aren’t designs after our own home-loving hearts than we don’t know what is.
I’m not so good with the jewelry lingo, but word on the street (or at least from the pregnant lady standing behind me right now) is that Lisa’s hand-cut and hand-hammered sterling silver necklaces, bracelets and earrings are well-worth shouting “oooh, I love that one… and that one… and that one” in your husband’s ear. In fact, Sherry loved the earrings that Lisa sent her way so much that we recently bought a set for my little sister’s birthday. And they barely take them off (so yes, my sister and my wife are often at family events sporting matching earrings).
And if you’re having trouble picking a favorite, perhaps this will make life a bit easier: Lisa Leonard Designs is giving away TWO $100 gift certificates towards anything in her store, so our winners can snag more than one thing if they just can’t decide. Plus if you don’t win, they’re generously dishing out a discount to everyone else, so stay tuned for that along with our winner announcement on Thursday. In the meantime, here’s how to enter:
- PRIZE: A $100 credit towards anything in Lisa Leonard Design’s entire collection
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “WEAR ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …tell us about something in your closet that doubles (or that you wish could double) as home decor. Do you display your purse collection for all to see? Do you swag a scarf over a hook by the door for some color? Or do you have a favorite dress whose fabric would look awesome as curtains or an accent pillow?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, February 24th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: All over the globe!
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

Wear Me! I don’t I have anything that I would want to double as home decor…it is usually a cluttered mess in my bedroom and I prefer it to stay there :)

Other way around–I wish I could turn some of my housewares into person-wears! I bought some beautiful fabric from Pottery Barn and made curtains and an accent pillow, and kind of wish I could make something to wear out of it, too!

Not my closet, but I love hanging up my baby girl’s adorable dresses on a hook stuck to her door. They are too cute to be hidden away in a closet!

Wear me! My scarves definitely end up on display from time to time. Maybe draped over a chair or dresser. They’re too colorful and pretty to not let people see! :)

I think my large turquoise pendant necklace would look cool mounted and framed (sans necklace)…I love the color and it would add texture to a grouping of pictures!
Rebecca says
Wear me! I’d love to double up lots of things in my closet, because frankly I take more color and pattern risks in my clothing than I do in my decorating. I guess it’s because clothing is cheaper and less permanent!

I have a few pairs of gorgeous heels that make much better decor than function shoes. The heel height is too high to wear for long periods of time but they make awesome showpieces on shelves.

Hi Youngsters —
I’ve been reading your blog for ages now and this is the first time I’ve written in because I wanted to pay tribute to my sarong, which I bought in Thailand, has been everywhere and has served many purposes (not just household) in many places:
1) as an actual sarong/top on beaches from Central America to Southeast Asia
2) as a bathrobe in
3)to cover the world’s ugliest bookshelf that I inherited from the volunteer before me in the Peace Corps in Togo, West Africa.
4) as a table cloth in Togo and Washington DC
5) as my shower curtain in Togo, repurposed when I accidentally spilled candle wax on it while it was serving as the bookshelf cover. :(
6) as a curtain to prettify the space I cordoned off for my puppy while paper training him (and to hide all the puppy toys and newspaper).
Thanks so much for all the hard work you guys do on your blog…it brightens my day to read it and makes me long for the day when I’m no longer a renter.
Take care,
Miranda

My scarves are sometimes used to decorate the house, especially during the holidays when I need just a little something extra.

Last year for my birthday, my mother-in-law gave me a beautiful scarf with a note that said when I wasn’t wearing it, I should drape it over my couch because she bought it to match our living room. Which in fact it does. Perfectly. So while I enjoy the whole “doubling up” idea, I will say that I have mixed emotions when tying it on and the mental image of “being a couch” really doesn’t help a girl’s self image. Just sayin’.

I love all my earrings and have tons of them, so I display them in my bathroom. I took an 8×10 black picture frame, removed the glass, replaced it with mesh netting (bought at a hardware store and cut to size). It’s functional & beautiful! I also display my rings in a white ceramic egg tray (Got that from you, Sherry!)

Shoes, jewellery, hats, scarves… I like to display all kinds of pretty accessories out in the open. Although I don’t like it when my OH tries to get in on the act by leaving his shoes randomly around the floor ;)
Some things are just far too lovely to be hidden away behind closet doors!

I recently took two picture frames (8×10 and 11×14), removed the glass and covered the wood backing with fabric. I then added some fun knobs (screwed in through the wood back of the frame). We just hung the frames on a wall in our bedroom and I’m using them to hold my necklaces and bracelets. Less stuff on the counter and some easy and inexpensive artwork!
