This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.
First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.
Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).
But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.
Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.
So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:
- PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

I’ve made more of an effort to use our cloth napkins and have started composting (again :-P). I have already been trying to reduce how many chemicals we have in our house in terms of cleaning products and personal care items. I also take the bus to work every day in downtown LA – environmentally friendly PLUS a lot less stress since I can read rather than worrying about traffic. :)
Chelsea says
Green me! I’ve switched to green laundry and dish detergent. The less harsh chemicals the better! :)

Please and thank you! I love the tips and encouragement you give on this site. I enjoy the way you share your stories with us.
I walk me kids home from school instead of begging hubby for a ride. Gives us great “us” time and saves some gas!

Since we bought our house, my favorite new cleaning tool is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. To be green and save money, I cut each one into 4! Its enough to hold onto and get the job done, and there is alot less waste since you get more surface area when you cut them up.
Thank you!

GREEN ME! Our family is not quite as green as we would like to be, yet. However, we have come a very long way over the past four years and are excited about our long term plans for continuing build a sustainable lifestyle for ourselves. Currently we recycle, grow some of our food, strive to shop local and organic, built a green roof on our doghouse, we compost and water our gardens with H20 from our rain barrel, and more or less try and conserve our energy outputs.
Emily M. says
GREEN ME! We keep our air conditioning/heat off as often as possible, and use reusable bags whenever we can. Can’t wait for the day when we live somewhere we can have a garden!

I recently spent my entire summer living in the woods in a bungalow with no electricity and no running water. It was a communal living situation and we recycled regularly, and all-around had very little impact on the earth. we had our own garden and compost pile, which we made our meals from regularly.

I’ve generally been trying to avoid “throwaway” items- use a tupperware (or better yet those glass ones!) instead of a plastic baggie, a dish towel instead of a paper towel when possible, and refilling my cups when I simply must indulge my (bad) soda habit at the gas station. I also finally broke down and bought a nice bike pump, since I was always using flat-ish tires as an excuse to not bike to work. So far that purchase has been totally worthwhile!
PS- I have the Blood Orange soy candle and it is freaking amazing. I’d love to add to it though. :-)

Lot’s of “green” things happening in my community (including my home)
– eating meat one day less per week, shopping at farmer’s markets, using biodegradable soap, limiting shower times to 5 minutes, we’ve researched a lot of recycling options for things that are not readily recyclable (corks, the plastic rigns from 6-packs, hard plastic lids etc). after my husband got a job in which he has to drive a big truck I am counteracting that by commuting via bus or bike instead of driving. We have decided to no longer buy toys for our dog… she likes cereal boxes and plastic bottles from recycling much better anyway.
just a few things!

Sunny's Life in Rehab says
GREEN ME!!! And we reuse, recycle, and repurpose practically everything. We have a bin for anything anyone thinks I might possibly be able to make something out of. My coworkers bring me trash. It kills me to buy new stuff. And my kids have caught that bug too.

We keep an empty ice cream bucket in the sink to collect water. We dump in left over ice cubes, squeeze excess water out of a wash rag over it and pour in any excess water we might have. I use it everyday to water my flowers outside and in.
Vanessa L says
GREEN ME! We use cloth diapers, which are so much cuter and way easy. I aspire to start using cloth wipes as well, but that’s a bit in the future :)

Eco-friendly tip: If you use a reusable metal water bottle (such as a Sigg bottle) make sure you clean it after each use- Using denture cleaners is an easy (and super cheap- around $3 for 50 tablets) way to clean the bottles.

Green me! We just moved to California, and in addition to a toter each for trash and recycling, they have an “organics” toter. We can dump in napkins, food scraps (even bones!), and even the wrappings from take out. I’m loving it. Maybe this is really common, but it was new to us!

We use cloth grocery bags, and have those little rolled up totes in the car in case of a spur of the moment purchase while we are out, so we are never without a ‘green’ bag. We also do our fair share of recycling and compost.
Amanda says
we never use paper plates or napkins. Not only does it mean less waste but it also classes up the laziest take out dinner!
