This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.
First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.
Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).
But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.
Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.
So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:
- PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

This isn’t something I use at home, but I teach & it’s something I just started doing in my classroom….
now instead of making multiple copies of quizes & paper assignments or having students use their own paper, I just make one class copy to hand out and have the students use overhead transparency sheets on top to record their answers. This way, we’re not using a billion sheets of paper, my old transparency sheets that were just gathering dust have a new life & I can just wipe them off and reuse them. Plus the kids think it more fun than regular pencil and paper!

We became a 1 car household soon after we got married and now I take the bus or bike to work most days. It also provides a lot more storage space in our garage!
Kathryn S says
Green me! – I use all reusable grocery bags like a lot of other people, but I also use reusable bags for my produce purchases.
Ashley T says
Green me! I’ve recently started to switch over to natural cleaning/laundry/lotions, etc. So far I’ve encountered green isn’t necessarily cleaner with some items but others I’ve been pleasantly surprised! Can’t wait to start cleaning with Dr. Bronner’s which I just found our local grocery store carries. :-)

We’ve recently moved out to the country and our garden is in full harvest, the apple trees are filled with apples, and the view from every window is green! It sure does make you appreciate nature and, as a result, we are much more ‘green’ with our everyday choices. :)

My best tip is to buy reusable bags that come with their own storage pouches; it’s easy to toss them in your purse, and harder to forget them when you’re shopping because they’re so easily accessible!

We recycle everything we can, started a compost bin, and my favorite cleaning product is plain ol’ vinegar and water :)

We do the usual green things and at work we can now recycle the plastic tops on milk jugs, water bottles and that sort of container so I save them at home and bring them in to work.

Heidi says
Green me! We don’t have recycling where I live :-( and, as a former newspaper gal, I would feel guilty not subscribing to the newspaper (old habits die hard), so I keep a basket in the kitchen, toss in my papers and take them to the recycling bin when I know I am going to be driving past it anyway.
Erin says
GREEN MEEEEE!!!! omgomgomg, this is the coolest giveaway – as evidenced by the entry turn out, whoo!!!
We have a compost pile…And a cute little bowl that has a top that we keep in the kitchen for scraps.
A green thing I do for myself: I made a new years’ resolution to not buy or use ANY plastic bottles this year. That includes gallons of juice etc. It’s been really hard, but I try to tell everyone I know. Bottled water is ridiculous, not to mention, does not have as high of regulations standards as TAP water! Gross!
Emily says
GREEN ME! I work for a company that has an onsite cafeteria. They recently switched all of their disposable to-go boxes, utensils, and styrofoam cups to much “greener” products. We also have several different recycling stations for each different product. No more guilt after eating lunch!
Vann D says
Green me. We are trying to cut back on how much gas we use in our cars.

One way my husband and I have learned to be more green is by setting a goal of only having to take out the trash once a week. That might not sound too difficult, but we use pretty small garbage bins around our house, so this means we can’t create much trash. It has helped us get creative about how to reuse and conserve things. It’s also led us to change our buying habits so that we purchase fewer disposable things.

We’ve recently started using re-usable shopping bags, as long as we can remember to take them with us!lol. we’re newly-weds still, and this stuff is still a work in progress for us! =)

We compost everything possible in our giant tumbler, and use it on our many square-foot gardens. Our two chickens contribute hyperlocal organic eggs, manure for the composter, and mulch in the form of the remains of hay bales we put in their coop twice a year.
