This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.
First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.
Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).
But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.
Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.
So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:
- PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

GREEN ME! I recycle EVERYTHING, from tiny receipts to cardboard shipping boxes. It is so easy to just throw something in the recycle bin as opposed to the trash bin. I throw away so much less stuff now, it’s amazing.

I recycle our clothes into clothes for our boys – i.e. if DH’s pants have a rip or a stain that doesn’t come out, etc. I repurpose the fabric into pants for the boys.

Well . . . we’ve added a recycling can right next to our kitchen trash can so now we have no excuse not to recycle, we have an airtight canister (a pretty one from Ikea) next to our sink to store compostable goods in before they make it outside, and we’ve just switched to cloth diapers. We’re loving it!

I always use my reusable grocery bags but wanted to go one more step. I had a piece of shear fabric left over from some random project and turned them into reusable produce bags. The cashiers at the grocery store always look at me a bit funny, but I hate using any kind of plastic bag if I don’t have to.

I try to work out outside (instead of in a gym) and I’ve invested in several reusable water bottles to keep from using the plastic ones!

I take my own glass/plastic containers (reused pasta sauce & yogurt containers) to Whole Foods to use in the bulk section. I just weigh my containers when they’re empty, write the tare on the jar, and refill! I’ve always loved the bulk section for its low prices and reduced packaging, and now I can reduce it even more.

We’re getting married in 20 days, and we’ve been “greening” our wedding like crazy! We’re making pennants for decor out of recycled fabric, bought second-hand vases that we’re planning on re-donating, using an awesome local caterer, we used a wedding website instead of lots of paper, and encouraging our friends to carpool! Phew! We’d love to green our brand new life together too :)

Trying to use vinegar for cleaning as much as I can, using refillable water bottles intead of plastic for soccer games and workouts, using washable containers instead of plastic baggies for lunches, re-use most of the plastic containers and glass jars from food products, use air dry setting on dishwasher. Great giveaway! Thank you!

It’s time to let go of the paper towels and paper napkins! Recycle old t-shirts into a big stack of rags to have on hand as paper towel substitutes, and use cloth napkins instead. You’ll save the money it costs to buy or make cloth napkins in just the first few packs of paper ones you don’t have to buy!

I plant potatoes in old tires (recycling!), compost, buy organic, buy local goods over imports whenever possible, volunteer for my local food cooperative, no meat meals 2-3x a week, recycle and reuse everything, use green cleaning products, buy used over new for most types of things, and think about the green impact of every single thing I do. Hero is Ed Begley Jr (need I say more?)… Most recently, just purchased my first eco-pillow (kapok!).

GREEN ME…as my boyfriend says “you’re pretty good at making things out of trash.” I take old wine bottles, big soup cans, and other misc. materials and make different gifts or home decor with them. I’m working on making a chandelier out of the wine bottles.
