This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.
First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.
Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).
But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.
Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.
So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:
- PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

GREEN ME!
I’ve been into buying in bulk at the grocery store. It’s a lot cheaper AND there is less packaging. If I’m feeling ambitious, I bring a couple jars from home, reset the scales, then add my oats/noodles/trail mix/spices. Cuts down on my trips to the store, saves me money, and pretty much eliminates excess packaging.

Green me! We definitely recycle and I am a thrifting maniac, but yesterday I finally stopped procrastinating and started a compost pile! I’m so excited to churn out some black good!

My hubby and I have been making an effort to recycle everything we can, and we recently bought a sorter from Ikea that helps a lot. I printed off little pictures to put in the windows on each of the three bags, and now we have a super easy way to sort our recyclables as we use them. :-)

GREEN ME…we have one car for our family and plan to keep it that way! It has become a fun challenge for me to see how little I can use our car and how many days of the week we don’t use it at all!

i recently have started to go green with my pup by making dog-safe alterations to the meals i make for myself. i just checked out a book from the local library with recipes calling for organic produce and free range chicken/grass fed beef. I love it so far. the book has human and dog versions of each recipe!

GREEN ME! Nothing groundbreaking, but I’ve been trying to repack my produce bags into my reusable grocery bags & reuse them at the store too. They basically are only used so that produce doesn’t touch the cart/belt in line, so it’s not too crazy. but when you use about 5-10 each time like me, I was starting to feel bad always throwing them out and starting over.

I recycle everything that I can. I have begun using only natural products to clean – vinegar, baking soda, essential oils and the occasional Method or Mrs. Meyers product (love ’em!). I know I can do more but we’re working on it a little bit at a time! :)

I’m a newlywed, but my husband and I are still long distance. With all the flying back and forth we have to do we try to be as green as possible in each household. We drive less, walk more, and try to buy local produce, meats, and dairy products from the local farmers market.

Since my little guy just started eating baby food, I’ve been collecting all these adorable little glass jars which I am going to re-use into spice jars on a magnetic back splash! Using the lids to connect to the back splash and adhering a cute label to the bottom for accessible spices that aren’t cramming up my cabinet space.

“GREEN ME”
We recycle, buy from Good Will and other non profit organizations. We pass on clothes to others. We compost all (three in all), place yard waste at the curb for town shredding and composting/mulch. We buy the mulch back or get it free on certain days. We carpool, we use low wattage light bulbs. We donate old towels to our dog resue organizations. We started a garden this year and plan on expanding this next year.
I know there is more we can do and we will continue to strive to live greener everyday!
Thank you for the giveaway!
Always, Teresa T.

Our big effort this year has been reducing the stuff we bring into the house, especially junk mail and catalogs. I separate out junk mail as I walk from the mailbox up the driveway, then I drop it in a bin in the garage. I also removed myself from catalog mailing lists and browse online instead…being greener is great, but being clutter-free is an added bonus!

I’ve been trying to save my clean-ish water leftover from washing vegetables for watering my houseplants. As I have only 2 houseplants, the water collects more quickly than the plants want to drink it! Guess I’ll just have to get more houseplants!

GREEN ME! I live in the San Francisco Bay Area and went to Berkeley, so being green comes naturally to me. The one thing I am really proud of (latest effort) is making my own organic yogurt… we were going through about 5 big containers of yogurt per week. Now I can reuse those same containers, and only send one milk gallon to the recycler per week. SWEET!
