This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.
First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.
Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).
But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.
Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.
So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:
- PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

Tip I picked up somewhere: Spent dryer sheets make great dust cloths. I just give the furniture and/or baseboards of whatever room I’m folding laundry in a once-over with the used dryer sheet before I throw it away. It picks up as much as a Swiffer sheet!

GREEN ME! We just recently moved to Seattle, and let me tell you, green is in the air – literally! All the trees :) Washingtonians are notoriously green, and make it very easy to support local green biz, compost and recycle everywhere, and grow your own food!
Nicole says
GREEN ME! Although we compost, use earth-friendly products or do wonders with white vinegar, salt, lemon and olive oil, etc my tip will be to thrift it up and recycle what is out there to give it a new home instead of the landfill. Look with creative eyes and see the potential in those items. It is like a treasure hunt! Loves- N

We have to take our own trash to the dump (not so bad cuz the hubs gets that job) & this year I discovered that they have a recycling setup there. I purchased a few cheap stacking bins & we now have an easy way to separate & store recyclables until our (his) next run to the dump.

GREEN ME! I just bought a countertop compost bin for my kitchen food scraps. I’m planning on using it on my herb garden.

I try to fit green in wherever I can. I’ve been recycling for a while, but now I’ve found myself looking at organic cotton clothing and even shoes made from recycled tires. The green possibilities seem endless. I also recently started using Mrs. Meyers products after seeing them on your site. Love those!
Tara says
GREEN ME! It’s kinda gross but to save water I don’t flush the toilet. If it’s yellow, let it mellow!

I live in San Diego and although we aren’t as green as one of my favorite cities (Portland, OR) everywhere I go and almost everyone I meet is all about being green! I do my best to walk to grocery store with my reusable bags & I rarely drive on the weekends… that counts? Right? I’m not just being lazy ;-)
Micole says
GREEN ME! I always have my reusable shopping bags with me!

GREEN ME! My husband have been trying to be greener gradually the past couple of years – we shop with reusable bags, we wash in cold water, our 8 month old uses cloth diapers, we buy local produce and meats, use a brita water filter instead of bottled water, and of course almost all the furniture and accessories in our house have been refurbished/repainted/reupholstered from thrift store and garage sale finds!

Almost 2 years ago, I started using a reusable menstrual cup to deal with my periods…not only is it way more convenient, it also saves me LOTS of money and I’m no longer throwing away all those disposable pads & tampons every month! (More info at menstrualcups.org, if you’re interested)

GREEN ME! I recycle as much as I can…paper, cans, bottles, plastic and paper bags, clothes. Would love to have a garden like we did at our first house, but our yard is so shady that it just wouldn’t work.

GREEN ME!!! Oooh…fabulously GREEN prize pack! I live in one of the Green-est cities around! Portland, OR! Woot! We recycle everything and live a VERY green lifestyle! I even make my own skin care and household products. I love it!

Ooh, this is one of my favorite giveaway’s yet! I try and be ‘easy green’ (as in, its not too tough to do what i do.) Bring my own shopping bags (and if i forget, I reuse those suckers like crazy), shop organic and at farmers markets when I can, and use eco-friendly cleaning products. I’d love to give the house a little green pick-me-up by adding some solar panels and rainwater system – hopefully in the future!!!
Mary Sterck says
Green Me! I am an american living in Germany and we do alot of recycling. I get all my decorations for fall from the woods and make wreaths and table decorations. I go to the farmers market most weekends to support our local businesses and I discuss with my daughters back in the states what they can do to recycl/reuse.

We are trying to use more eco friendly household products.
Allison says
GREEN ME! I recycle almost every scrap of paper, metal, glass or plastic thing that I can at home. Use reusable grocery bags for all retail, and recycle dry cleaner bags at a plastic bag drop located in a local grocery store or Wal Mart, since they cannot go in with regular recycling where I live.
Elena says
GREEN ME! We recycle even though our apt building does not support it. More hassle, less room in our tiny place but better for environment!
Tara says

I made a DIY trash can composter: Get a plastic trash bin with a nice secure top, then drill holes all over it (including the bottom). Mix in leaves, garden waste, and your fruit and vegetable scraps, wait a while, and voila! Compost happens :)
Thanks.

You know those bags they pass out at convention trade floors? Yep, they used to be plastic that would rip easily but now they’re recycle material bags. Works great for groceries, farmers markets, etc. I keep them in my truck at all times. And bonus, you don’t have to buy the reusable bags from the grocery store!

I am in love with those rugs!
We make our own cleaners (almost all vinegar-based), use only cloth towels instead of paper. I also sew a lot using upcycled fabrics, so I make my own pretty patterned cloth napkins and reusable shopping bags. Thanks so much!
