This week’s prize is doubly exciting for us: it’s 100% eco-friendly and comes from a local Virginia business (just up the road from Richmond in Culpeper, VA). Green Nest‘s got such a broad smorgasbord of kind-to-the-earth gifts that we’re psyched that this week’s winner will score such stylish loot. There’s a lot to cover, so let’s get to it.
First off, the winner gets their choice of any 3 x 5 or 4 x 6 Fab Habitat recycled rug (woven from recycled polypropylene straws). Here’s a sampling of some of 50+ designs you get to pick from.
Then there’s a soy candle that comes in a decorative silk-screen glass. There are 19 designs to choose from and after the 90 hours of candle burning time you can reuse the glass (and even drink out of it).
But you won’t necessarily need that glass for drinking because the prize pack includes your choice of recycled soda/beer bottle tumbler set (you know I’m jealous of whoever wins this one since I failed miserably at my own DIY attempt). There are four in a set and 5 styles to choose from.
Last but not least, a green prize pack wouldn’t be complete without a little greenery. The winner can choose two of these Garden-in-a-Bag kits for growing some herbs without even having to get your hands dirty.
So that’s the prize. Stay tuned for a discount on Thursday, but for now let’s get to the entry details:
- PRIZE: A green prize pack as described above from Green Nest.
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “GREEN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: …let’s use this a chance to share some eco-friendly tips. Have you started taking any extra steps to be green lately? Or do you have an especially easy tip to share with everyone? Or, as we witnessed in Ithaca, have you seen any especially green locations recently?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, September 22nd at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The Lower 48 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perk’d for hosting this giveaway, we just take them on to reward our lovely readers! See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from Green Nest.

We are BIG into recycling. Anything and everything goes in our city bins for the pick up. It does amaze me how much goes into the bins each week – lots and lots.
Suzannah says
GREEN ME!
We recycle anything we can, refill our own water bottles, use reusable bags, (except at Target because we use those plastic bags to line our diaper bin!) and try to walk or bike whenever possible.

GREEN ME! My husband brews his own beer – the green part is that we use old beer bottles to bottle his in…good beer and eco friendly!
Kristi says
GREEN ME!!!
I use wine bottles as flower “waterers”. When we go out of town we fill our old wine bottles with water, turn them upside down in our potted plants and they get water the whole time we are out!

We are trying to become more green. For now we are using the reusable shopping bags. As we are in the market for a new home, I am hoping that after we get moved, we will be more organized and have more space to start recycling.
Christine says
GREEN ME!!!
It’s fall cleaning time I’ve been cleaning out all my notes and books from college and all the paper is going in the recycling. We try to use rags and towels in place of paper, and eco-friendly cleaning products!
Nadine says
GREEN ME.
Living in NYC, it’s all about public transportation or my own two feet!
Robin says
GREEN ME! We have been doing several things to try to green up. First, we’re growing our own veggies and composting our waste. I’m buying organic produce (things we don’t grow), dairy and meat whenever possible. We’re buying used, quality furniture instead of new. Where I fail miserably though is packing lunch for my kids….hard to beat the convenience of sandwich bags.
Melissa D. says
GREEN ME!
Stop buying paper towels and napkins and now use cloth only.
Jeff says
GREEN ME!
Our township isn’t great at recycling, but our local Whole Foods recycles (and composts) almost everything, so (thanks to my wife’s quick thinking) we decided to set aside what we normally wouldn’t be able to recycle at the curb and bring it into the store at the end of every week.
Jen says
GREEN ME!
What haven’t we done? We compost (in NYC, no less), cloth diaper and breastfeed our infant son, recycle, use public transportation, no harsh cleaners….the list goes on!
As for a tip? The sun will bleach cloth diapers beautifully! :)
Cara says

We ALWAYS bring reusable grocery bags and share 1 car between 2 of us! :)

I’m a big fan of using vinegar as a odor killer! Put a small bowl full out and it will help absord all the stinkies in the air! Way better than gag inducing perfumed sprays.

I send my kids to school with waste-free lunches and reusable drink bottles. We use more glass storage than plastic and reuse glass jars. We recycle. I’m transitioning to natural and homemade cleaners. We are going to begin composting soon (it’s about to till our gardens for fall), and I’m working hard to remember my reusable shopping bags!

We are implementing simple things around here like energy efficient light bulbs, recycling, and refurbishing all of our old furniture rather than throwing it away and buying new. :)

I love your blog and check it everyday during my dinner break (a little island of decorating bliss in the middle of a college enrollment center!).
I have placed recycle bins in my office and send emails regularly to staff/faculty about recycling cans. In addition to helping the planet (nice) I have met so many people that work here because they now bring cans to my office to recycle.
Keep up the good work on your blog, and PICK ME!!!!
Vanessa says
GREEN ME!
We’re recycling and re-purposing whatever we can. Take plastic ziplock bags: as long as they’re not mega-funky we wash, air dry, and reuse. That’s a good start, right?
Sarah says
Green Me!! I’ve officially ditched paper towels and now only use cotton towels for all cleanups, including cat messes. Whew!
Cordia says
GREEN ME!
I made my own homemade natural (laundry detergent for the first time and plan on making homemade dishwasher detergent. Instead of using baggies in my son’s lunch, I bought reusable containers from PB Kids for his sandwich, snacks, etc as well as a reusable stainless water bottle. We recycle everything we possibly can (our bins are always overflowing every week). I am trying to switch to more natural ways of cleaning, etc.
Bree says
GREEN ME! If I know I won’t need a receipt, I ask that they not print one. For example, I never need one at my library, so I just ask that they don’t print one! Saves paper (and all that BPA junk!)
Stefanie says

This year we switched to reusable lunch containers for our kids’ school lunches, almost completely eliminating the need for Ziploc bags.

My newest green effort is that I just bought a bike so I can use my car much less often!
