Fab Freebie: I Touch My Surface

No, the title of this week’s freebie isn’t meant to be perverse. It’s just the clearest way to identify the DuPont giveaway that has already popped up on some of our favorite blogs. And now it’s here on YHL (insert party kazoo sound effect here). Ladies and gents, we present to you: the DuPont iPod Touch giveaway. That’s right, DuPont’s gonna hook one of you up with a free iPod Touch. Monday just got a little better, eh?

DuPont recently launched a new free iPhone and iPod Touch app called mySurface that’s designed to help you pick a countertop from within their Corian and Zodiaq line of products. The fun interface would’ve been great back when we were redoing our kitchen, if nothing else just to give us a sense of how many options were out there. So even though technology’s a bit too late for our renovation, we’re still getting great bathroom inspiration ideas from mySurface’s photo gallery:="nofollow">

DuPont was even kind enough to hook us up with our own iPod Touch (now I’m almost as cool as my iPhone toting wife) to check it out and dig up some other helpful DIY apps to share with you guys. So here are the other home-improvement related apps that we’re digging:

We’ve been having lots of fun with Benjamin Moore’s ColorCapture app (also free). Using uploaded photos (or pics snapped with the iPhone’s camera) you find paint colors and color schemes to coordinate with your favorite fabric, painting or – well – photo of your dog on the beach. And though we haven’t used it yet, the 99-cent SwedeShop app is the unofficial Ikea organizer for the iPhone. So you can forget the golf pencil on your next trip- plus it automatically tallies your budget as you go.

We also got lots of tips about keeping notes and lists on your iPhone back on this post, so we’ve started to use Evernote (again, free). It’s like the Voice Memo and Notes tools that come already loaded on the iPod, but a bit more organized. Linked to an account on evernote.com, you can keep voice, text, photo and screen grab notes that can be labeled with tags, sorted by geo-tags and easily searched. We’ve also been enjoying craigsphone, the app version of craigslist. Nothing new in terms of content, but hunting for real estate, browsing local yard sales and perusing used furniture in need of a new home is almost easier on the iPod than the real web site. The app is free, but it certainly could end up costing us more as we discover new steals.

    Humm… What I would do with an iPOD touch! Definetly organize myself! I have 2 daughters and so many activities I could better organize myself plus have the new Dupont App to use while I wait!!! It would be the best gift ever!!!!!!!!! PICK ME!!!!!! :)

    TOUCH ME!!!! Sprint = no iphone but if I could invent an app it would transfer what u say to writing on the scheduler it takes so long to type everything in!!!

    I’m a BlackBerry girl myself, but I have to admit I am secretly jealous of my friends iWhatevers (iPod Touch, iPhone, etc)! I know, blackberry addicts around the world are shrieking in pain but its true…I want to switch to an iPhone- or better yet a iPod Touch!

    I think a dinner app that you can put in a few ingredients you have in the cabinet that creates a tasty meal from what you thought of as nothing tasty would be great!

    Touch Me! I don’t have an iPhone or an iPod (I have a generic MP3 player from Target) so I would love to finally know what everyone else my age is talking about. I would love an app that reminds me to tape my tv shows, and yes I mean tape as in promgram my VCR. My husband and I are too cheap to get a DVR from our cable company so we still go it the old-fashioned route and tape our favorite shows like Mad Men, Flipping Out, and Rescue Me. Half the time we either forget to set the record time or we forget to change out the tapes so we end up taping over something we haven’t watched yet. Hey DuPont help this 29 year old get out of the 80s and get some 21st Century technology, stat!

Sadly, I don’t have an iPhone, or iPod for that matter, so this would be heaven-sent!! :] If I could create any app I want…hmmm…maybe an app that could write all of my papers for me while I’m chill-axin?! (I’m in law school) Here’s hoping I win! :]

    I love Pandora and Shazaam but if I could create my own, it would let me send a list of items I need to my local grocery and they would have it bagged, charged to my checking account and ready for me to pick up on the way home. Wouldn’t that be great!

    I would love something that would allow me to choose meals to cook for a week and then input the ingredients into a shopping list. And then it would check my pantry and fridge for anything else I need. Oh, and then it would keep track of my food budget, too. When is that one coming out?

    Favorite app would be the one my friend showed me – it’s a real, functioning level to help you with all those random projects around the house – great for hanging picture frames.

    I don’t currently have anything that uses apps, and I really have no clue as to what kinds are out there. But, if I could have a special app, I’d have one that would put all of my husband’s clutter away! If there is an empty surface, he has something on it. Needless to say, it’s very difficult for me to decorate tabletops!

    TOUCH ME!

    My favorite app is actually a game called Twisty Text. I like the brain challenge, though I can’t say it’s very useful.

    The most useful app I have is Convertbot. It’ll convert all sorts of units from one to another with a spin of the wheel. So easy!
