Random.org has selected the two random folks who are about to get $100 to IKEA. And they are… Jennifer (who improves lives by teaching and will also be adopting a child from Ethiopia) and Ashley (who says needs some improvement for herself). Congrats!
If you take one thing away from this post, it should be this: two people are winning $100 gift cards to IKEA this week. Woot! But if you have room for a second thing, know that it’s because Ikea is hosting their second annual Life Improvement Project that, among other things (like hilariously helpful “instructions” for living a better life) includes another $100,000 Life Improvement Sabbatical Contest. So if you’ve got a great idea about how to help others, IKEA will give you one year and one hundred grand to make it happen. Last year’s winner (whose video can be seen here) was actually from right here in Virginia. Double woot!
- PRIZE: An $100 gift card to IKEA, courtesy of the IKEA Life Improvement Project
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IMPROVE ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …how you’d like to improve the lives of others. Do you have a special skill or talent that you could leverage? Or is there a specific cause or area of need that you’d like to dedicate yourself too?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm EST (or at 10,000 entries)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The continental 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of IKEA Life Improvement Project

I’m working in musical theatre… and while I wish I could say it was for the money (we get paid peanuts, friends) or the fame (um, there isn’t any) I do it because of the way I felt in the audience growing up. I want to give that feeling to other people… so I’m trying to. :)

Improve me! I love volunteering with local animal shelters to ensure that the homeless dogs and cats in the community have someone loving and caring for them while they wait for their permanent home! Every animal has such endearing qualities, and I love being reminded on a regular basis to always identify the good qualities in every living thing. There are some selfish elements to this volunteering – it constantly satisfies my desire to adopt “just one more.” There’s also nothing likes the gratitude and ‘love’ you feel from an animal in need… I mean, who is really saving who here?

IMPROVE ME! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

IMPROVE ME! I am passionate about raising money for cancer research, particularly for underfunded types of cancer that don’t get as much media attention. My father was diagnosed with multiple myeloma last year and I am starting to train for a 10K with a goal to raise at least $1000 for future research.

I’d create more community arts programs for children, teens and adults. Schools shouldn’t be the only opportunity, and students shouldn’t suffer if their school becomes one of many to lose their funding for the arts.

I just joined the board of a local women’s shelter — it houses both victims of domestic violence and women/children who are homeless. I’m really looking forward to doing what I can to raise money for it and help it be as successful as possible.

Mary@The Good Life says
IMPROVE ME! I’d like to do some work with homeless resources, like soup kitchens, shelters, and after school kids programs for people that work full time or are homeless, etc. It’s my long term goal. Very long term, as my one year old is sort of all hands on deck right now, and my local homeless touch point is all “come-in-for-a-meeting” like. So, soon enough. Like when the kids start preschool.

IMPROVE ME! I have a young neighbor who has been battling breast cancer the past 2 years, and as a result, never have any money for home improvements. I would want to help couples/families who find themselves in similar situations.
