Random.org has selected the two random folks who are about to get $100 to IKEA. And they are… Jennifer (who improves lives by teaching and will also be adopting a child from Ethiopia) and Ashley (who says needs some improvement for herself). Congrats!
If you take one thing away from this post, it should be this: two people are winning $100 gift cards to IKEA this week. Woot! But if you have room for a second thing, know that it’s because Ikea is hosting their second annual Life Improvement Project that, among other things (like hilariously helpful “instructions” for living a better life) includes another $100,000 Life Improvement Sabbatical Contest. So if you’ve got a great idea about how to help others, IKEA will give you one year and one hundred grand to make it happen. Last year’s winner (whose video can be seen here) was actually from right here in Virginia. Double woot!
- PRIZE: An $100 gift card to IKEA, courtesy of the IKEA Life Improvement Project
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IMPROVE ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …how you’d like to improve the lives of others. Do you have a special skill or talent that you could leverage? Or is there a specific cause or area of need that you’d like to dedicate yourself too?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm EST (or at 10,000 entries)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The continental 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of IKEA Life Improvement Project

IMPROVE ME! I would love to help people learn about nutrition, especially in school systems. Heck, I wouldn’t mind knowing more about it myself. It would be amazing if we could teach kids at a young age about nutrition before they develop bad habits.

My daughter has ADHD and is super bright, but has trouble keeping still and following rules in a normal class environment. I’d like to work with schools and teachers to find ways for these children to learn alongside their peers but in ways that are best suited for their needs.

I love helping out with High School Students @ church. I get to teach them that no matter how rough teenage life can be, or how much they feel like no one understands what they’re going through, there is a God in heaven that loves them. It’s pretty amazing to see them mature and grow, and I enjoy every single minute of it!!!

It’s super important to me to work on making science education available and accessible on a wider basis. Not that I’m saying learning science fixes everything, but understanding how to logically work through problems is a useful skill in real life.

There are so many great, needy causes out there, especially a couple that hit close to home, but what i’ve been wanting to do is habitat for humanity. building/painting, etc. are right up my and my husband’s alley, so it would be great to put our skills (and not just money) to work.

Improve Me! I lived abroad for a while in a place that doesn’t share our alphabet and I will never forget how I felt being unable to communicate the most basic needs or process written information in every day life. The experience made me passionate about supporting immigration, literacy, and language services in my community. I just started volunteering at an immigration center that provides ESL and citizenship classes. Working with my students is one of the high points of my week!

Oh, gosh, IMPROVE ME! I am a wonderful cook, and an empty nester, and I cook meals to share with elderly friends and single (not elderly) friends who don’t have the time or inclination to cook. Showing up at somebody’s door with a warm apple pie, a batch of stew, and some homemade muffins is a real kick for me. :)I’d love to make some improvements to my kitchen (just some more storage) so I have more tools to be able to do this, on a bigger scale!

This is sort of a small idea, but I love drawing and anything art related. I get a little sad when kids keep telling me they can’t draw because I think anyone can draw, they just need confidence! I’d like to help kids find their own artistic style because I think kids tend to think that there’s only one right way to do art and if they can’t do it they’re automatically not a good artist. Not true at all! So I guess I’d like to be their guide into the creative world!

IMPROVE ME!
I would like to be a better teacher to my children. I would like to live a more balanced life between my passion for interior design and the quality time spent with my children. I want to learn to truly enjoy those “less exciting” moments, rather than constantly fighting the urge to stay busy and think about what comes tomorrow.
