Random.org has selected the two random folks who are about to get $100 to IKEA. And they are… Jennifer (who improves lives by teaching and will also be adopting a child from Ethiopia) and Ashley (who says needs some improvement for herself). Congrats!
If you take one thing away from this post, it should be this: two people are winning $100 gift cards to IKEA this week. Woot! But if you have room for a second thing, know that it’s because Ikea is hosting their second annual Life Improvement Project that, among other things (like hilariously helpful “instructions” for living a better life) includes another $100,000 Life Improvement Sabbatical Contest. So if you’ve got a great idea about how to help others, IKEA will give you one year and one hundred grand to make it happen. Last year’s winner (whose video can be seen here) was actually from right here in Virginia. Double woot!
- PRIZE: An $100 gift card to IKEA, courtesy of the IKEA Life Improvement Project
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “IMPROVE ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: …how you’d like to improve the lives of others. Do you have a special skill or talent that you could leverage? Or is there a specific cause or area of need that you’d like to dedicate yourself too?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, October 12 at 8pm EST (or at 10,000 entries)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Two
- PRIZE SHIPS: The continental 48 United States (although we do try to wrangle as many international giveaways as possible)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of IKEA Life Improvement Project

I think it’d be really cool to start a neighborhood/(small) town skill swap. I’d love to facilitate something where folks could donate their handyman, computer, design, and other skills in exchange for credits that can be redeemed for skills they don’t have. Major bonus: friendships which are built in the process!

I have my real estate license and would love to help families who are effected by the financial crisis by providing real estate services for free if they are underwater in their homes…it seems like if each agent did this for one client a year it would go a long way in helping out families in financial trouble or who need to relocate.

I am a 7th and 8th grade math teacher in an urban school district in Massachusetts. It has always been my dream to open an all-girls boarding school for under privileged girls in our city. We would all live under the same roof. I would teach them core academics through real world activities and all of them would go on to college.
Ahhhhh…to dream…..

If I had the choice to do anything for the sake of benefiting others, it would be to continue my current job of college campus ministry. Not because knowing Jesus “makes us better people,” but because despite the fact that all of us are imperfect, He loved us perfectly and frees us from our mistakes and our insecurity to experience joy.

Improve me! I believe the greatest impact we can make in other’s lives is to show them love. Whether it be the clerk at the store, the gas attendant, the teacher at school, anyone. We may never know what people are going through that day, or ever, that makes their attitude the way it is. By showing others love no matter what, we allow them to see that your circumstances don’t define you. Live to love :)

IMPROVE ME!!!!
As far as helping others, I recently read about a school principal in Las Vegas who has a lot of poverty-stricken students at her school and the help she proves them is amazing. I would want to start more programs like what she has started at her school. Basically it helps parents and students with things like rent, jobs, food for the weekends when they won’t be eating at school, etc. Just anything they need to make life a little easier. I can’t imagine anything more rewarding than that.
