Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.
Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.
- PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
- CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
- PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
- THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

I’ll drink to that! Wow, those glasses are so neat. I’d love to toast someone with the wine glasses. I don’t think I have ever really “toasted” anyone but would love the opportunity…thanks!

The best toast was done by my fiance this weekend. He was the best man at his best friend’s wedding and made a touching speech about all of their memories growing up together and told the very funny story about how the groom organized a 35 person trip to a Yankee game (complete with renting a party bus and buying 35 Yankee tickets) just so he could invite his now bride to this outing and have an excuse to hang out with her.

Love the highball glasses. So fabulous. Best toast, hands down was my husband’s best man. The line: “now there’s a man who appreciates sunscreen as much as I do” had my laughing so hard knowing how pale my husband is. Seriously, blinding.

I wish I had a memorable toast to offer, however, in reading through all of these responses, I have been inspired many times over to give a memorable toast at my sister’s upcoming wedding in late October.

I’ll DRINK TO THAT – I gave a sappy toast at my best friends wedding. No matter how much I rehearsed it still took my a couple minutes to gather myself.

Unfortunately I have witnessed few good toasts. I did the toast at my little sister’s wedding last year and although I was terribly nervous and had to read the toast off of a piece of paper, I was told I did great. I think it’s mostly because her last name is now Short and that just gave me too many joke options. : )

My ex has a standard toast that he does any time the opportunity arises:
“If I had a ticket to heaven,
and you didn’t have one too,
I’d tear mine into a THOUSAND pieces,
and go to hell with you!”
:-)

ILL DRINK TO THAT! At my sisters wedding i added memories from our childhood together during my toast and gave her future husband pointers on living with her

At our wedding, our toasters brought up some friendly rivalries among our guests and families such as favorite sports teams and rival high schools that many of our guests had attended. It’s funny to hear people cheer and maintain such fierce pride after so long, and made for fun crowd participation.

I must say the most memorable toast I have heard was given to me and my husband on our wedding day by my brother, who was also my husband’s best man. It was short, sweet and perfect. I’ll will never forget it.

I think the best toasts I have heard are the ones that use real specific stories about the person…not too sappy though!!

I made a toast as the maid of honor at my sister’s wedding. I wrote a poem that I thought was funny but also a little on the serious side at the same time. I rehearsed the poem enough that I had it down but when I gave it in person my emotions lost control. When I looked up after the toast almost everyone was crying. My mom, my sister, and I bonded that day like we never had before!

I feel that sincere, heartfelt toasts are the best way to go, the ha-ha,funny ones can sometimes backfire.

This is an uncomfortable speech…The best man speech at my brother-in-law’s wedding was all about how they used to pretend to throw up in the cafeteria in college as a game…seriously. It was funny to look around at the expressions on all of the guests faces throughout the speech.

My good friends got married last summer and the best man gave one of the best toasts I’ve ever heard. I laughed, I cried – it was sweet and touching and funny all at the same time. He did such a wonderful job, I can only hope for such a great toast when I finally get married :)

This may seem self serving but, I really appreciated the toast that my matron of honor gave at our wedding. One line will always stick with me…”You can just tell by the way Jared looks at her how much he really loves her.” Hearing someone else say it made it more real to me-Jared is my rock. Im so lucky and blessed :-)

Wow…the most memorable toast award definitely goes to the best man at our wedding. He had a bit too much to drink and was completely unprepared. He rambled for A WHILE and all of the guests laughed at everything he said (even when he was trying to be serious). I believe at some point he told us that we “will be able to get over this hump…”, whatever that hump may be. Our wedding?
So happy we have it on video…and the other 4 toasts were lovely!

The best toast came from my new son-in-law’s friend at our daughter’s wedding. What hoot, he kept us rolling for at least 15 minutes citing memories from their college days and beyond.

After my maid of honor gave an incredibly awkward (My dad and several others tried to end this speech early but to no avail) 3 page typed speech listing all the boys I had ever dated (which was alot as I was a bit bored in highschool) and all the horrible things that were once said about them (in order to prove how great my husband truly was for me) – well it was time for a gentle pay back at her wedding. I gave a beautiful speech (people cried!) thanking both the bride and her family for teaching me so much about unconditional love and being a safe home for me to turn to when mine wasn’t, I then went on to give a brief description of the toast the bride had given at my wedding – clarifying that she meant it well (which she did – but to this day everyone still talks about that infamous toast gone awry), with her interrupting that it was only one page typed to which I replied “It was stapled.” I then went on to say, “Groom, the Bride only dated one guy before you and I was able to convince him that New England was once a part of Russia (true story!). CLEARLY you are a better choice for the Bride!” To which EVERYONE started laughing including the groom who is not quick to laugh. I felt so good afterwards for having a graceful revenge that left us laughing and better friends then ever before.

My favorite toast was at a cousin’s wedding. His brother was the best man and very nervously opened his toast by saying ‘well we have been brothers for a long time’.

i’ll always remember my dad’s toast at my wedding almost exactly a year ago. when i was just born, my grandparents went around in a circle and said a little wish for my future. he read those wishes aloud. i had no idea this ever happened and it was so amazing to have that as part of my wedding, as none of my grandparents were there. :’-)

I’ll Drink to That!!
I heard one toast at a rehearsal dinner where the father of the groom said said “well my son isn’t a man of many words, not that his future wife ever lets him talk, but I do know that he loves her and is excited to be married tomorrow”.
We all knew the bride was a chatty kathy, but didn’t quite know whether that was a joke, a sweet toast, or an insult so everyone sat in silence until the bride (obilivious to the insult) smiled and raised her glass.
