Sherry and I can’t stop talking about how good the toasts were at my cousin Casey’s wedding in Dallas (Wedding Crashing pics to come…). There were five in total (two groomsmen, two bridesmaids and my other cousin, the bride’s teenage brother) and each was remarkably funny, articulate and touching. Most weddings are lucky enough to have one of those, let alone a handful. So in that spirit, we think this week’s prize from Mikasa Crystal & Dinnerware is quite fitting.
Mikasa’s been dishing out classic and stylish servingware for over 60 years (perhaps they were even on your wedding registry?) so we were stoked when they contacted us to offer up some free goodies for you our lovey readers. This week we’re serving up prizes to three lucky winners from Mikasa’s new Cheers Too line of glassware. Each set of four crystal drinking glasses features simple, modern designs that just make you wanna throw a dinner party. With lots of “beverages” on hand, of course.
- PRIZE: Your choice of the Cheers Too White Wine, Double Old Fashioned, or Highball Set of Four by Mikasa
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “I’ll DRINK TO THAT” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: Tell us about a memorable toast you’ve heard (or given!) and what made it great. We could all use a few good toastmaster tips, right?
- CONTEST CLOSES: Wednesday, August 26th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: Three
- PRIZE SHIPS: United States only this time.
- THE USUAL: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winners will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

At a friend’s wedding last year, the maid of honor began discussing her recent mental issues (including a hospital stay) and how the groom’s family was so loving and supportive, unlike her own family. All in front of her own family.
Tip: Don’t do that.

Our best man made the funniest toast…my favorite part was how he referenced the college years where he and the hubby spent alot of time at the bars – as you could tell from their waistlines!

I recently attended a wedding where the maid of honor gave a wonderful toast to the bride (her sister). It had sweet and funny stories from throughout their childhood that had everyone cracking up and left us all teary-eyed. :o)

The toast I remember happened in June at my sister’s wedding. My Dad got up to speak and started crying. It was so sweet to see my big, strong Dad get emotional in front of hundreds of people.

Two weeks ago, I ventured all the way out to Salt Lake City (I’m from the East Coast)to attend a dear friend’s wedding. My boyfriend was a groomsman (the groom is his cousin), as were my boyfriend’s brother and BIL. They all gave lovely and funny toasts that even included visuals – a life-size poster of the accident-prone groom (including a blown-up photograph of his face) that detailed the many injuries he has sustained throughout his life. My bf’s brother-in-law then proceeded to give the bride a first aid kit, saying she would be needing it to take care of her new husband. :)

We went to a wedding one time where the younger brother of the groom was the best man. The poor guy was in high school and didn’t know what was expected of him. His speech went exactly like this, “Uhh…..Uhh….Congrats!”

I have given two maid of honor toasts and received many, many compliments both times. For both I used the same format and created a poem…both including how the how I met the bride, how the couple met and a few “fun” memories we all had along the way. At the end of the speeches there wasn’t a dry eye in the place! :)

The only advice anybody ever needs for a wedding toast: keep it short and sweet!

The girl I work with recent got married. The grooms brother and brother -in-law gave the only toast of the night. The toast was a skit, they would speak a line or two and then the dj would play a song clip to go along with the music. It was the best toast because it was a suprise to everyone and it was so funny!

At my wedding this May My husbad’s brother gave an amazingly touching toast about them being the best of friends through there whole life and through both of them being in the Military. My husband was in Iraq for 2 years and hearing how his brother felt during that time was incredible and touching it meant so much to my husband and everyone there :)

I’ve been to my share of weddings, but I always like the humorous toasts, instead of the sappy ones. Just a personal preference…

The best toast I heard was from the bride’s father at the engagement party. You could tell how happy he was for her, how much he loved her, and how sad he was to lose her.

I’ll drink to that!! … loooove the white wine glasses!
My best friend got married recently. Her husband had recently finished the major portion of chemo and radiation for a cancer diagnosis. One of his older brothers wrote a song and sang it with the blue grass band they had at the rehearsal dinner. It was funny and sweet. He talked about silly traits of the groom and how wise he was to choose the bride and everything in between. It definitely had more meaning than ever, knowing that the groom had just overcome a major life obstacle. Everyone cried and toasted and it was the best toast I have ever heard. I’m waiting for someone to top it.

I can’t remember a memorable toast because I have not heard very many done at the weddings I have attended… But I am recently engaged and will have a wedding next year. Maybe it will happen then? I sure hope so!

My cousin toasted his brother, he said a higher power had brought together the bride and groom. Then a picture of Buffy came up on the big screen. I guess they had watched the series together and started dating during that time.
Geeky story, I know!

Most memorable speech was my husband’s best man. He’s the rough n’ tough type but during his speech at our reception, he got choked up. The minute he realized he was getting emotional, he paused…and then brought the bottle of beer up to his lips. It made all of our guests laugh

At my wedding, my dad welcomed all our guests and thanked them all for attending, then toasted my husband and I by telling the story of how when he first met my husband, he couldn’t understand what I saw in him! Luckily, he quickly realized what makes my husband so perfect for me, and he now adores his son-in-law and was overjoyed on our wedding day.

The best speeches I heard were at my own wedding! My husband’s brothers did a hilarious speech about the hubs… all about how he used to get lost a lot as a kid (they gave me a leash), how he learned about 10 new instruments (earplugs) and loved parrots (a parrot puzzle).
My dad also was very sweet and quite funny. He wore a red clown nose for part of it because he didn’t want to get too emotional but he did anyway :)

The funniest idea I ever got was to secretly hand out keys to randon guests before the reception began. As the matron of honor, during my speech I explained how it was my duty to make sure that everyone who had a key to the groom’s apartment was to turn it in–after all, he was officially off the market. Well, tons of people started walking up to the head table to hand in their keys. Totally unexpected by the bride and groom–they loved it!
